Yesterday, I promised to share the borrowed bits of my outfit, and I will.
But first, I would love to borrow you for a moment to share a bit about my day.
I was again in the amazing company of Debbie Phillips and Jan Allen as we zoomed around town to check-in with Columbus and check-out the fabulous space for our upcoming Women on Fire Day.
Today started out at the NPR studios of WOSU (yes, that’s right, WOSU as in OHIO STATE ~ don’t worry Michigan friends my blood still runs blue!) and it ended at the offices of Capital Style.
In the middle of all this zipping and zooming we eventually landed at the Ohio State House for a ceremonial unveiling of Governor Ted Strickland’s official portrait.
As we entered the hallowed halls of the massive limestone building I had a flashback.
A flashback to a time when I was Governor to the state of Idaho.
Girls State Governor that is, er, that was, like a long time ago.
Just walking up to the Governor’s office today sent a flood of memories back to the day that I sat in the Governor’s chair.
Sure, it was mock government run by a bunch of teenagers, but there was one very real event on that day long ago that I will never forget.
A death threat.
The building was shut down and there was a little bit of hysteria as someone proclaimed a threat on the Governor’s life. Only problem was, the Governor, the REAL Governor, was not in the building. Instead, in his place was a sixteen-year old version of me!
Security to the rescue.
The building was secured, the threat was handled and this mock Governor lived through my one-day gubernatorial term to tell about it.
Today, as I sat in another Governor’s presence, (a very real governor) I was deeply touched by the supporters, staff and lingering afterglow of his administration as it filled the cavernous room and reverberated off the massive granite columns.
I couldn’t help but think about the revolving door of leaders this building must have seen: all the outgoing governors and staff, senators and representatives, their proudest accomplishments and unrealized dreams.
It is truly a building of the people.
Which makes it all borrowed ~ borrowed time, borrowed moments, borrowed business.
All the sum of many borrowed bits.
If we flashback to Day 157 when I asked you to guess the borrowed bits of my outfit, if you said borrowed shirt and shoes you are correct! The shoes were from Justin’s mom and the shirt was straight out of Debbie’s closet.
Each one is more than just a borrowed hand-me-down or second time around.
They are the dressings of my real life, which just like yours, is lived on borrowed time.
