Day 002: what is abundance?

2 Jan

I suppose if I am going to spend an entire year focusing, researching and diving into the pool of “abundance”

…I should start with a general understanding of what it is.

So here we have it, straight out of the dictionary:

Abundance:

  1. an extremely plentiful or oversufficient quality or supply
  2. overflowing fullness: abundance of the heart
  3. affluence; wealth, the enjoyment of abundance

But, really it goes deeper than that, right?

It has to be more than a defined word.
It must be a state of mind.
A way of being.
A way of life.

So what is abundance to me?
It’s a good question.

I pondered the idea as we walked the streets of New York City over the holiday.

  • NYC. The Big Apple. Mecca of wealth and privilege.
  • Limitless options, extravagant shopping and dining.
  • Beautiful buildings and beautiful people.
  • The best of the best. The cream of the crop.
  • If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.
  • Start spreading the news!

Then I saw this sign.

thepromis365.com, jamie eslinger, the promise daily

“In the City That Never Sleeps, everyone needs a place to pray.”

And it made me think about what my “gifts” each day this year should be.

Money?
Time?
Love?
Prayers?

So here goes …I have to start somewhere.

My gift today:
Everyone who comments on the blog today will receive a prayer from me. That’s it. I will send good vibes your way. Straight from my heart.

Could only help us all, right??

And that brings me to…
What does abundance mean to you?

More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

You got it! I’m sending one your way. And a little bit of love too! xo~Jamie

For me, abundance means knowing that everything I need, I carry within me. (That being said, I most certainly welcome your prayer on my behalf – over abundance, maybe!?!). As always thanks for provoking thought, Jamie :-)

Love that definition! And, yes, prayers are coming your way. Always good to have prayers, right? Lots of love!! xo~Jamie

Love your 2013 focus on Abundance. I love the word itself. It is one of those words that feels good when you say it. As we grow what we want and need in abundance changes or at least it has for me. Now days an abundance of health, happiness and love is what I crave most. Prayer from a super powerful woman is also a very wonderful thing! Looking forward to your research this year!!
    Karen

Love the topic of abundance, to learn to appreciate what I already have in my soul and what’s available in this gorgeous world. Instead of a prayer for me, I would ask for prayers for my son – that he receive the gift of an abundance of health. Love on, jamie

    • Jamie January 2, 2013 at 7:47 PM #

You got it, Ellen! May your son be blessed with health, may he find wellness and welcome only wellness into his life in every possible way. May well being find you both and connect you together with love. Lots of love, xo~Jamie

My goal for the year is health and happiness. When I think about abundance, I always feel a bit, dare I say it, greedy, asking for abundance! It feels like I am asking for more than what I have. This post inspired me to work on that. Thanks Jamie!

    • Jamie January 2, 2013 at 7:50 PM #

You are so welcome Maria! You already give us all so much, and bring us happiness and fun and insight into our lives. May you receive abundance with open arms — you deserve it!! And may you have the good health to enjoy every second of it. Love ya, Jamie

Working in the non-profit industry I know I have great privilege and abundance. Your post has made we understand that while I may know this I do not have a strong enough awareness of that privilege and abundance. Thank you for getting me to slow down for a moment to appreciate and be thankful for the many blessing of my abundant life – a much needed pause Jamie – thank you!

So looking forward to you sharing in your generosity and abundance this year!

    Happy New Year Jamie!

    xoxo

Thank you Linda, and I know you have an abundant life because you have created abundance for so many others — through your leadership and inspiration. Thank you for giving all that you do — and thank you for being here with me. I love and adore you!! Hope I get to see you in 2013 and hope we get to share this walk together. xo~Jamie

Perfect topic for me Jamie – this morning I decided that I would spend this evening relaxing… finally enjoying the beauty of my decorated home when I have no more chores to do. And I would ponder the miracle of Christmas and what it means for my life over 2000 years later. And it means abundance – abundance of love and joy. It doesn’t matter if one is even Christian to receive these gifts. People naturally gather with the ones they love this time of year, and share what they have with each other. When someone I love shares what they have with me, whether I deserve it or not, that is abundance. Happy New Year to you!

    • Jamie January 2, 2013 at 8:00 PM #

I love that Janet, “When someone I love shares what they have with me, whether I deserve it or not, that is abundance.” Thank you for sharing and I bet your home is absolutely beautiful!! May you enjoy every second of it. I imagine you sitting in a wonderfully comfy chair, listening to music, sipping hot cocoa and feeling all warm and cozy inside next to some twinkling lights. May every day of 2013 feel full of love and family. xo~Jamie

I hope that this year, we can explore abundance in: How much is enough? How much is too much? Do we in this great, abundant country make enough, but not too much of our abundance?

    • Jamie January 3, 2013 at 9:34 AM #

I love that Diane. Do we make enough, but not too much of our abundance? Something to ponder…

  13. rvwalkaboutmom January 3, 2013 at 4:54 AM #

What is abundance? A full heart, lots of laughter, moments of serenity, knowing that you are doing what you were meant to be doing.

    • Jamie January 3, 2013 at 3:02 PM #

Well, you have certainly given me a full heart, lots of laughter, and moments of serenity my dear! Thank you for everything! May 2013 bring you exactly what you were meant to be doing. Blessings given. Blessings earned. Now… where are we going to go together this year??

  14. Christine Lopes San Juan January 3, 2013 at 9:01 AM #

Thank you Jamie for bringing me back to a core piece of my foundation – my faith. Your words have helped me re-set my mind to a day that did not start with abundance. Happy New Year!

    • Jamie January 3, 2013 at 3:04 PM #

Ah, you are so welcome Christine! That may be one of my favorite F words — Faith. Here’s wishing you a year of love and laughter, magical moments with your family, and the strength to move mountains. I love ya! xo~Jamie

Thank you. I need it very much. You inspire me to change. Fear holds me back. Things will stay the same unless I act. You inspire and motivate.

    • Jamie January 3, 2013 at 3:05 PM #

Lizzie, I couldn’t have said it better myself. “Things will stay the same unless I act.” So wise. So, here’s to shaking things up! Here’s to being fearless! May you have a year of unbridled confidence, and all the right change. Lots of love, xo~Jamie
