Day 333: it’s f*ing friday :: freeway

30 Nov

It’s Friday.
As in f*ing Friday!

Today’s f*ing Friday is dedicated to freeway.

And we’re off the freeway and home…well almost.

We made it to Brian’s and picked up our puppies.

It’s been a long f*ing day…..
With tire issues…
Fuel gauge issues….
And a snowstorm (no kidding)…

But we’re back and ready for an f*ing weekend — as in fabulous.

Here’s hoping you have one too!

Day 326: f*ing friday :: flabbergasted

23 Nov

It’s Friday!
And we’re on the road.
Today’s f*ing Friday is dedicated to the word flabbergasted.

As in… Locked out.

Tonight we checked into our Florida hotel room only to find it was already occupied — and not by us.

This is the second time we have encountered this phenomenon with hotels (even nice ones!!!).

It leaves me nothing but f*ing flabbergasted and of course I double locked the door — from the inside.

Just in case.

Day 319: f*ing friday :: freeeeeeeee!

16 Nov

TGIF.
Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. In Year One, I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Frank

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Freeeeeeeeee!

As in, giving feels so good!

It’s the week before Thanksgiving, and while I am usually focused on the gratitude part of this holiday, this year I’m stuck on the giving end.

And it’s so much fun!

So tonight, I am giving away another Lovemore+Fearless Tee. That’s right! The first five people to comment on this blog will receive a shirt for free, scroll down below to learn how.

Why? You might ask…
Because I am inspired by Cami Walker’s story of how giving saved her life, or at the very least, how it made her life much better. In fact, she says her plan to give 29 gifts in 29 days helped her multiple sclerosis, so much so, she began walking without cane.

You can read Cami’s story in her fabulous book titled 29 Gifts: How a Month of Giving Can Change Your Life.

And, if you are one of the first five people to comment below on this blog post, I will send you your very own Lovemore+Fearless Tee. Seriously.

Good luck and …Givemore!!!

xo~Jamie

Warning: May cause an open heart and extreme fearlessness!
Limit one per person, up to five fabulous people!!

Day 312: f*ing friday :: frank

Last week I dove into the word Fearlessly.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Frank.

As in, Frank Lloyd Wright.

Let me be frank…

Ever since I started this promise to be lovemore and fearless this year, all I see are hearts.

I see hearts in rocks.
In leaves.
In the sand and in puddles on the sidewalk.

And, today, this caught my eye:  a heart-shaped island.

It’s for sale.

For just $19,000,000 you could own this 11-acre Petre Island in Lake Mahopac in Putnam County, New York.  It includes 3 structures: Frank Lloyd Wright-designed main residence, guest cottage and artist studio.

The f*ing ironic part?
It’s for sale through Aha Life, a website devoted to curating the finest there is to buy. Let me say that again, you can literally bid to buy this property online.

I suppose it struck me most because it proves that we can buy anything online these days. Even a private island.

On the other hand, it also makes me appreciate even more the chance happening of spotting a fallen leaf, a lonely rock, or a puddle of water on the street — all in the shape of a heart.

Sure, I could probably find a place to buy ALL of that online, somewhere, somehow.

But, the mere act of spotting them in nature, randomly, haphazardly, unexpectedly, surprisingly, gives me a rush like no other.

It is as if they found me.
And, frankly, it feels pretty good to be noticed.

Here’s to you.

Happy F*ing Friday!

Day 305: f*ing friday :: fearlessly

2 Nov

Last week I dove into the words Fires

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Fearlessly.

As in, what an f*ing week.

But it is almost over and I hold on to my mantra, to lovemore+fearless as we all move through the current storm — the times we are living in, the upcoming election and the weather pattern sending destructive hurricanes in our path — and the ensuing aftermath.

No matter where you are tonight, here’s sending more love your way.

And, here are some helpful links I ran across that you may find useful:

1) A love letter From Marianne Williamson called “Love Letter to East Coasters

2) The American Red Cross. You can easily donate by calling this number:  1-800-HELPNOW

3) Or text “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make an automatic $10 donation.

Love more. Be safe. Help out.
Let’s move forward.
Fearlessly.

Day 284: f*ing friday :: facetime

12 Oct

Last week I dove into the words front porch

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Facetime.

As in, brown spots.

I’m trying not to fear the wrinkles and brown spots staring back at me in the mirror.

It’s just, well, they are so …THERE.

Part of me panics about it, fretting, worrying, wondering: When did this happen? How did this happen?

And part of me just says: Get over it, girl!

My reaction literally depends on the time of day, the amount of sunlight pouring into the crevices in the corners of my eyes, and my facetime.

I mean, seriously, the last time I Skyped with video camera pointing directly on my face with my bestie Sara inside my computer screen, I almost passed out at the person staring back at me. Who was the woman with the brown spots under her eyes and the wrinkles around her mouth?

With a small tremor of terror I slowly realized…
Oh. My. God. That’s. Me.

Other than those small heart attack inducing moments, I am really fine with my aging face. I accept the brown spots and wrinkles on most days as badges of honor and with as much lovemore+fearlessness I can muster.

But it doesn’t mean I would pass up the opportunity to smooth out or lighten up. So, today, I was pretty psyched to see a box arrived for me at the new address.

A box full of skincare products.

Hey, it’s worth an f*ing feel-good try. And, I’ll report back if I see results.

Plus, it’s not worth living in fear of the brown spots in the mirror.  Unless, of course, they are from organic, sugar-free, chocolate ice cream, smudging the corners of my mouth!

Have a good weekend (full of the good, sweet, brown spots)!

Day 278: f*ing friday :: front porch

Last week I dove into the word Farewell.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the words:
Front Porch.

As in, Boston.

Tomorrow we move for the winter.

And, just to keep things interesting, we are not heading south this year. While we will not be snow birds this winter, we will be living on a beach.

One that looks like this:

Hello South Shore!

We are up for the adventure and I cannot help but think there is reason for this. In my year of loving more and fearing less, I will face my fears of the ocean head on, each and every morning.

The water is merely a few steps from our front porch.

Which will make the sunrise amazing. And sunset walks in the sand beautiful. (Except I will not be in flip flops.)

I’m sure it will be cold, but I am excited to explore living on the edge of the ocean and the edge of my fears. And, to learn the lesson I am supposed to learn.

Whatever it may be.
Lovemore+Fearless.

Day 271: f*ing friday :: farewell

Last week I dove into the words Freeway Fright.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Farewell.

As in, until we meet again.

Today was my last day on Martha’s Vineyard for the season.

As I walked to the boat to board the ferry, the skies opened up and began to cry. It poured rain.

And then I looked down at the sidewalk and saw a heart shining up at me, reflecting light of the cloudy sky, formed in of the puddles on the street.

It felt like the final sign. A little reminder of love in the middle of the long goodbye to summer. Until we meet again.

It made me remember that song from college that we always sang:

Friends we are
And friends we’ll always be
We’ll meet again
Returning faithfully
Cottey friends
We’ll always be
Until the end of time

Farewell Summer. Goodbye Martha’s Vineyard.
Until we meet again.

Day 264: f*ing friday :: freeway fright

Last week I dove into the words Funny Things

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Freeway Fright

As in, I think I’m going to throw up.

I just got out of a cab that swerved in and out of every single car between JFK and West 57th.

20120921-180706.jpg

My stomach is still turning from the tumultuous ride.

20120921-180719.jpg

But in New York, I am, and headed to OMEGA we soon will be!

The car ride made me think of all the things I am (still) afraid of…

  • Like the swerving in between cars and trucks and SUVs…
  • Like the ENORMOUS spider that crawled under Brady’s kennel yesterday…
  • Like making mistakes…

I am working on these big ones. And, I have made huge progress this year.

1) I calmly rolled down my window in the crazy cab ride and just let the wind hit my face (instead of gripping for dear life)

2) I calmly asked Justin to remove the spider instead of chasing after it with a death weapon (a.k.a. my shoe)

And…

3) I have to admire the way I handled last Friday’s F-up with our dinner reservation. Sure, I made a mistake, but it was nothing we couldn’t recover from. In fact, I think it made the whole night even better in it’s own f*ing way.

Here’s to being fearless…
One step at a time.

Have a great weekend!

Day 257: f*ing friday :: a funny thing part 2

14 Sep

Last week I dove into the word Farkle.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the words:
Funny Things.

As in, oops!

I really farkled up yesterday.

I drove home after working in my “office” (a.k.a. a coffee shop) and sat in my car for an extra fifteen minutes just to collect my thoughts before being trampled by the dynamic duo (a.k.a. Pup and Brady bounding to greet me at the door).

My phone beeped as I sat in my car. Text message.

It was my friend Sue. She wrote: “We just docked. I’ll walk up to Main Street and wait in front of the gift shop on the northwest corner.”

I was totally confused. Sue wasn’t due to arrive on the island for another day. She was supposed to come on Friday so we could take her out to dinner at the Outermost Inn. It was planned weeks in advance as a way to thank her for watching over the house while we were on our Grand Canyon adventure earlier in the summer.

When we first asked  Sue to watch over the house, she agreed and we pledged to take her to dinner at Outermost Inn as a gift in exchange for her help. Her face lit up. “I have been waiting 25 years to eat there!” She exclaimed. Done deal. We would take her to Outermost Inn. Dreams come true.

But the reservation was for FRIDAY. NOT Thursday.

“Wait… is today Friday?” I questioned my sanity as I pulled up my calendar. Confirmed. It was indeed Thursday.

Why is Sue here a day early? Then I remembered the Outermost Inn reservation and immediately called the restaurant that REQUIRES a reservation in advance. Sometimes WAY in advance.

The hostess on the other end of the telephone confirmed our reservation was for Friday.  I groaned out loud into the phone. “Oh, God. How did I mess this up?” And then sheepishly asked if there was by any chance under the sun and grace of some loving God an open reservation for THURSDAY night. TONIGHT.  Like, in the next four hours?  Please….

The hostess laughed into the phone. I gulped.

Sue was on the island waiting for me to pick her up, how was I going to tell her that the reservation she had been waiting 25 YEARS to enjoy was not today. Besides her plan was to eat an early dinner and take the late ferry off the island. What to do now?

“We might have an 8PM opening.” The hostess exclaimed. “Great! Book it!” I answered back having no idea how we would get Sue back from Aquinnah, the Outermost part of the island, where the OUTERMOST INN is located to eat an 8PM dinner and make the last ferry at 9:30PM.

I picked Sue up in my car and gave her a huge hug. And then shattered her 25-year dream and apologized profusely. “We can eat there at 8PM but you will miss the last ferry tonight.” I sheepishly explained.

“No problem.” Sue cheerfully answered. “I’m sure we can figure out something.”

I racked my brain. Who has a place for Sue to sleep? I called my friend down the street with extra rental rooms. Not there. We sat on her deck waiting for her to return. No dice. Then I remembered Regina.

Regina! I called her in a last minute dash, crossing my fingers. She answered. She accepted my proposal to allow a stranger to sleep in her house. The Outermost Inn was on.

Except I forgot to tell Justin.

I called Justin and in one breath explained the whole situation, with each character and plot line fully developed including my near heart attack at messing up the reservation night.

He stopped me in the middle of my soliloquy and reiterated. “So you’re saying we have a reservation tonight at 8PM?”

“Um. Yeah.” I shrugged my shoulders as if he could see me.

“Okay, I have to shower but I’ll see you there.” he confirmed.

Men. He didn’t even let me get to the good part where I secured housing (in a single bound) on the island for Sue to sleep over.

The night went from a complete disaster on my part, to a fabulous, fun, frolic in the sunset. What an F*ing day. And I didn’t even plan it.

Amazing what happens when you let life take over.
Or completely “F” it up.

Sometimes it’s better than expected. And it was.

Here’s our FOOD photos from one of the most beautiful spots on this place called Earth.

Thank you Outermost Inn.

I hope somebody called you tonight in a panic for a Friday night reservation so you could say: “A funny thing happened…”
