DAY 1: the promise begins

1 Jan

Here’s the deal.

I had a life changing experience. In October of 2010, I went to a spa for one week and it totally changed the way I felt about my body, my skin, and living inside myself.

Before I left the spa, I promised myself that I would not purchase anything for one year that did not support one of the following categories: either my Head, Heart, Body or Soul.

No more shoes, clothes, impulse buys, frivolousness.

Necessities (food, utensils, etc.) do not count of course. I’m not trying to live off the grid. I know others have taken on much more noble experiments and pointed to way more global issues.

I am not trying to change the world, just myself.

In the end, my goal is to be more aware of what I put in and on my body. The one body I’ve got.

Since my small experiment started in October, I have already learned the following: my purchases are driven by something very deep inside of me, call it emotions, cravings, yearnings or discontent, whatever it is, it is a force to be reckoned with and it is powerful.

At the same time, I am finishing my certificate degree with Integrative Nutrition and will be a certified health coach this year.

And now, it is now January 1, 2011 and I’ve decided, in honor of this New Year, I am going to take the promise one step further. I am going to write every day for one year, about this experience, what I purchase, what I don’t, what goes in my head, heart, body and soul.

365 posts. You are welcome to read, listen or join me. Or not. It doesn’t matter what you choose, I am doing it anyway.

Tomorrow I will share the basic rules, my plan for what I can and can’t do.

I could go on and on, and I promise, I will.
For 365 days.
