Day 70: f*ing friday :: fresh

11 Mar

Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Friends.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:

As in, Fresh Perspective.

Spending my summer, excuse me, I meant “winter” in Naples, Florida has been Fabulous. But, Flying to Alpena, Michigan this week has been Full of Freshness.

Fresh Air For One.
There is something crisp and beautiful about a Fresh blanket of snow covering the earth. And there is certainly something magical about tromping through snow banks with little baby snowflakes sprinkling your eyelashes.

Yesterday, Mary Ellen Jones gave us a tour of the Farm she calls home. It was Norman Rockwell picturesque with rolling hills and roosters crowing right out of the barn.

It was also a Fresh Perspective.
Because it is a change of pace.
A contrast.
A different world From my sunshine and beach Filled days in Florida.

What I love about spending time with Mary Ellen (known as M.E. to her Friends and Family) is her ability to appreciate the contrast.

M.E. moved from lavish Hollywood to lakeside Michigan.
For love. Way past 40.
And she will tell you all about in the book Women on Fire.

You see, M.E. was a Hollywood Producer.
For shows you know and love, including…
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

When I launched The Promise 365, M.E. was First in line to give me encouragement.

She told me I could do it.
She wrote me a note of support.
And in that note, she revealed to me that she too had conducted this same experiment in her life.

Not only did M.E. go one year without shopping Frivolously, she went three years without Frivolity.  And at the end of those three years she saved enough money to buy a house.

How F*ing awesome is that?

Which brings me to my Finale.
This morning, I woke up in a cold winter wonderland.
I opened up my suitcase and looked at a menagerie of clothing pieces.

Instead of wool leggings, I put on bike shorts.
Instead of a thermal undershirt, I layered on the tank tops.
And instead of snow boots, I pulled on the plaid rain boots.

Because I’m not purchasing anything!
And, brainiac over here didn’t pack warm clothes for Florida.

But you know what?
It didn’t matter.
I still shared an incredible night with women from around the country.

Nobody cared that my half-leggings were suffocating lyrca and my boots didn’t match. Heck, they didn’t even know the worst part: I forgot my toothbrush!

Just goes to show:
Fresh is all in the perspective.
And how refreshing is that?
