Day 105: f*ing friday :: fête

15 Apr

Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Found

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:

As in, festive celebrations.

Today is Pup Aiken’s 9th birthday.
That would make him 63 in human years.

Sometimes he acts more like a 2 year old dog. You know, a little hormonal when she-dogs walk by, bouncing off the walls barking at times, which really is more like a 14-year old human.

It is much like having a teenager around the house, as he never picks up after himself and sleeps half the day away. In fact today, he turned his nose up at the super duper very cool and very large bone Justin bought him for his birthday.

I guess it wasn’t cool enough.
Instead he chewed on a tennis ball.  Such is life with a teenager.

I always thought birthdays were for parents anyway.

Actually, before Facebook came on the scene, I was notorious for forgetting birthdays.  Like my best friend’s birthdays, the people I love the most. I just need a little reminding, a nudge.

It must run in my family.

The year after my mother died my father completely forgot my birthday. No calls. No cards. Believe me, it was very forgivable on so many levels.

Just as it was eye-opening.
I didn’t realize my mother led the fête family planning. Until she was gone.
For birthdays, Christmas, Easter, etc.

These days my father doesn’t forget my birthday.
He remarried a few years after Mama Sling died, to a woman with the same birthday (different year) as me. Now he has no excuse. We keep him on his toes.

As much as I love birthdays (and I do!), I believe there are equally important days in my life where I stop and reflect, to celebrate mile-marking moments, both the really special, rare, life changing, and transforming.

Do you have these special days?

Here are some of mine:
January 17 ~ the last day of my radiation/cancer treatment
July 12 ~ the day I left my old life
September 8 ~ the day my mother died
April 15 ~ the day I saw Justin for the first time in 15 years

And who can forget April 16 ~ the last day I will ingest ghee on this 2-week cleanse!

That’s right. Tomorrow is the last day of waking up to a ghee-licious breakfast. Only a few more days after that and this cleanse is over.

But, the lesson isn’t lost.
Taking care of my body from the inside out is like having a little birthday celebration, honoring what it does for me each and every day.

Because I want to be around for many more birthdays to come.
Who would want to miss a great party!?

And, with that, I leave you with a smile from the birthday boy himself.
Happy Birthday Pup!
