Day 245: f*ing friday :: fit

2 Sep

Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Funny.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:

As in, perfect match.

I don’t remember the last time I went shopping.  Can’t recall the last dressing room I stepped into …it’s been that long.  At least 245 days.

Eventually my promise will end and the day will come when I return to the land of shopping.

But, next time, when the time comes, things will be different.

For one, I will not splurge on frivolous purchases just because they are on sale.  And, I will not buy just because it fits.

For another, I will reenter the land of shopping with a guide by my side.

On Day 107 I shared some of my glee around the idea of my next shopping spree in 2012 — namely, that it will be with shopping/fashion/guru girl Holly Getty.  Earlier in the year, Holly asked me to consider the following:

When you think of yourself next year…
What do you see yourself wearing?
How do you look? How do you feel?
Remember, there is no limit. Money is not a factor.
I want you to tap into your ideal, your dream.

So tonight, I had the fun and pleasure of sharing some of my “clippings” with Holly of what I want to look like, what I might want to wear.

I started showing her some of the images like the one below.

As Holly looked over my images she dug right into my heart and reminded me that she wanted me to DREAM BIG, remove all limits and obstacles, only choose what I desire.

Then, with a push of a button, Holly whisked me off to the land of Net-A-Porter.  There we browsed through divine and delightful colors, fabrics, cuts and styles.  Some fun. Some outlandish. Some dripping with elegance as sweet as chocolate.

There were outfits, so tempting and tasty, I looked right at Holly and said, I LOVE that but where would I wear that!?

Holly looked back at me with her big, beautiful, blue eyes and reminded me that she wants me to DREAM BIG and to really feel it with my heart — not with my head.

So what if I can’t find an excuse to wear the head to toe red ensemble and high heels?!

Who cares if I live in the tropics half the year and island summer the rest — if I feel a sweater in my heart, I feel a sweater in my heart!

Tonight, as I sit here writing, I realize this: sometimes we think things FIT because of where we’ve been, what we’ve done, or who we were. But just like anything else, it’s okay to grow up and out of old images.

Because, sometimes, well most times, the heart only knows what fits best.
Be it a job, partner, location or pair of bright red skin tight pants.

And, when it comes to matters of the heart — it’s worth avoiding the sale rack and holding out for the perfect f*ing match.
