Day 10: what is your theme song?

10 Jan

When I rolled out of bed this morning I couldn’t get a song out of my head.  Where is the love from the Black Eyed Peas kept running through my head, asking me over and over again, “Where is the love?  Where is the love?  Where is the love, the love, the love.”

I took it as a sign.
It’s time for a new theme song.

I believe strongly in a few things:
1.  I believe you can do anything. Because you can.
2. I believe in the power of Love.
3. I believe in having your very own Theme Song.

Last year, in The Promise 365, my theme song was Believe in Yourself by Brad, because I wanted a song to remind me that I could make it through all 365 days without buying frivolous items, taking care of my head, heart, body and soul. (And it worked!)

So, today I searched and searched for the perfect theme song, one that would help me focus on my theme of exploring LOVE and getting over my FEARS in this new promise.

And I found the perfect one.
But, before I reveal this year’s song, I want to share what I think a song needs to become your magical Theme Song:

1.  An emotional connection
2.  A sing at the top of your lungs quality, preferably in the shower but also good in the car
3.  A pick me up on your worst day of days
4.  A reminder about “why” you’re going after your goals

For this year, there were so many great options to choose from — there are so many songs that have to do with LOVE.  I considered so many and almost landed on All You Need Is Love by the Beatles, which I do love.

But, I chose a song that pulls at my heartstrings in a different way.
It reminds me that even against all odds, if we hold love in our heart, life truly is beautiful and our dreams do come true.

You see, when Justin and I first began dating long distance, he left me messages on my phone at night, singing a few lines from this song to remind me that everything was going to be okay.

Even though we were dating between the coasts of Oregon and Massachusetts, even though I was going through “the world’s worst divorce” and even though we were high school sweethearts who reconnected 15 years later, his message to me was — love is where we belong.

You may know it as a Cat Stevens classic called Don’t Be Shy.  I know the Eddie Vedder version that Justin sang into my phone at night.  I chose it because it perfectly captures the power of love and the importance of relinquishing fears — especially when we don’t know what life holds for us next.

Plus, I can sing it in the shower.
May you have a theme song in your heart, or at least on the radio, to take you through 2012.

xo~Jamie

Don’t be shy
Just let your feelings roll on by
Don’t wear fear
Or nobody will no you’re there
Just lift your head
And let your feelings out instead
And don’t be shy
Just let your feelings roll on by
On by x6
You know love
Is better than a song
Love is where
All of us belong
So don’t be shy
Just let your feelings roll on by
And don’t wear fear
Or nobody will know you’re there
You’re there, you’re there x4
So don’t be shy
Just let your feelings roll on by
And don’t wear fear
Or no one will know you’re there
You know love is better than a song
Love is where
All of us belong
Belong

Jaimie…loved your song and the whole idea of a theme song… I had already been thinking about this and last night(even before your post) I decided to go with the old
    “1,2,3”… imagine love being easy!
