Day 224: why do you love that song?

12 Aug

My brain hurts.

I just read through Brain Pickings, delivered on Sunday, and every week it hurts my head.  In this world of overstimulation, I think it’s just too much data all in one place.

But, I am addicted to it.
Try it, go ahead. It might make you think. Hard.

About love.
And, question like: “Why does the world exist?”
Or, the difference between thinking and feeling.
And, what’s wrong with education?

Today, the latest mind-bender is:

Why do I LOVE that song?

Or, rather, Why is music addictive?

Here’s the video for full explanation:

The skinny?  Music stimulates arousal, which then causes a release of dopamine in the body.  So, basically, music chemically alters our bodies and makes us feel great.  And, it’s addictive too.

So, there you have it.
Now, I know why that song on the radio haunts me.  And, why the girls go crazy over One Direction.  They can’t help it, it’s an addiction.

Now, I can’t get that song out of my pounding head.
