GIFT DAY 009 an abundance of free coffee!

9 Jan

Today my gift was the mere act of giving away the change in my pocket to a stranger.

She was playing a harp in a Boston subway station.

Little did I know it would lead to a day of public transportation gifts.

I gave her the gift of money because her music made everything feel so beautiful down there in the subway tunnel. It actually felt like she was sharing a gift with all of us waiting for our train.

(There was also a bucket sitting right next to her feet begging to be filled with loose change.)

So I dug into my purse and pulled out what I had — two quarters. Not much. But it was a gift from my heart.

And this year, since I am exploring the power of abundance, and giving away a gift every single day — it seemed to fit.

Yesterday, my gift was FREE COFFEE — which Sara Schaeffner won — by helping pay forward the memory of a little boy named Jayden Lamb.

Today, IRONICALLY, the gift of coffee bounced right back to me.
As I walked out of the subway, back to South Station to catch my train home, I was approached by three men.

They asked me if I wanted FREE COFFEE.

I had to chuckle.

“Really?” I asked.

“Yes!” They said and then one young man handed me three coupons for FREE COFFEE.

Then another pulled a cup out with his right hand and held it in front of him saying, “I have a cup right here!”

Of course I couldn’t turn that down.

He then filled the cup with Starbucks Blonde Roast from a canister backpack he was wearing that was full of hot coffee and equipped with a nozzle to squirt the gold liquid into mini cups.

Just like that.

As I sipped the piping hot coffee on my train, I had a clarifying moment — maybe I just happened to walk into a street team promotion offering the free samples to wet my whistle and make me crave a cup of joe — or maybe, just maybe… this gift giving thing is already paying off?

Then I looked up and realized I sat down on the wrong train and was headed in absolutely the wrong direction!

I panicked for few minutes as I tried to figure out just what train I was on and where I was headed. And, then I started laughing out loud. I would have to ride the train to the end of the line in order to turn around and go back to where I started.

But you know what?
It was the best gift of all — time.

I had two entire hours just to myself sitting on the train. It allowed me to focus on work and enjoy the ride.

With my very own cup of coffee.

More tomorrow.

P.S. More gifts for you today! The first 3 people to comment on the blog today get a FREE coffee coupon — cause I’ve got three burning a hole in my pocket and can’t wait to share.
