BLOG – GIFT DAY 150 :: 30 days of love: a little joy!

30 May

It’s DAY 20 over here of the 30 Days of Love. We’ve already had two yummy recipes and a week-long Giveaway, some treats, a sneeze, some wise words to the Class of 2013, some news, a Pop Quiz, 3 things I love, a biopsy, a call to say what you need to say, a prayer, a choice, a reminder of home, a sunrise, a road trip, and now…
A little joy.Good news!We hit the road yesterday, packed between two cars, with two dogs and three adults: Justin, Jayane (Justin’s mom), and me.

It is an official road trip.

With a UHAUL attached to the back of Justin’s Jimmy and a bike rack attached to my Nissan we filled our tanks and headed west.

First day destination: Hudson, Ohio.

On the road trip of life, one thing is for certain. Things never go the way you plan — but somehow, you always end up in the right place.

As for us, we winded our way out of Scituate towards I-90, and just as the road opened up before us, Jaynane said to me, “bike.”

I repeated the word not knowing what she was talking about. “Bike?”

“He is saying bike to me.” Jaynane repeated.

“Who is saying bike?” I asked back and then out of the corner of my eye I caught an image in my rear view mirror. Our bike rack was empty.

Just mere moments before there were two bikes strapped to the back of the bike rack. Now, it was just empty straps waving in the wind.

“THE BIKES!” I exclaimed back to Jaynane. “They’re gone!”

They were indeed gone. And we had no idea where they went.

A Range Rover pulled up next to my driver’s side and motioned for me to roll down my window.

Blazing down the highway, I rolled down my window and he screamed over the wind. “Your bikes!”

“Where are they?”

He motioned back behind us and then sped forward.

Oh. Shit. We were stunned but there was nowhere to go except forward down the one-way highway headed west.

Mr. Range Rover hung back in his lane until he could get my attention again. He rolled down his window and said while pantomiming at the same time, “Take off your bike rack.”

“Right.” I nodded. Then he wiped his forehead with a big sweeping motion, the universal sign for “Whew.” as if there was some relief in lightening our load.

We prayed that no one was hurt.

As we pulled off at the next stop, with wide eyes and disbelief, so did another van.

The driver replayed the bike incident for us, because he was directly behind our bike flinging mobile.

Good news. He assured us that no one was hurt, traffic continued and the bikes, well, they were now a pile of dust. Not worth going back for.

So we did what you do when your only choice is to move forward. We pushed on. Without a pair of bikes.

The rest of the trip was mostly scenic and smooth sailing. Except for a torrential downpour in the middle of New York and a few terrible radio stations along the way.

As we stopped on the border of PA and NY for a pit stop I checked my phone. Somehow in the middle of the journey I missed a call from my doctor.

Good news. Part of my lab results are back. The largest nodule on my thyroid is benign.  Big happy dance in the middle of a New York Rest Area parking lot.

We will receive the other two nodule lab results later today. I will report back tomorrow, but until then…. crossing my fingers.

We count our blessings, breathe in a little joy, and push forward.

And, that brings me to…. a little joy and abundance to share with you:  The Abundance Interviews.  This series explores that tricky “A” word with all sorts of experts, from money, to spirit, to art.

This first interview is with Amy Leigh Mercree and it’s all about JOY. Amy is an expert in love and relationships, joy and spirit. Check it out here.Westward bound girl.More tomorrow.

Today I am thankful for……a dry home on a rainy morning; 2 cups of delicious coffee to start my day; the blues (that continued to linger around Mother’s day and after) have finally lifted; the birds that sing; and you!!!
