BLOG – GIFT DAY 201 :: it’s not easy being lame (or how to get a re-do)

20 Jul

So… we didn’t go to the fair last night.
It was hot. We were tired. We were, what do you call that… oh, yeah, lame.Instead we picked flowers from the garden and placed them in our windowsill.

But, sometimes things happen for a reason, or keep you from best laid plans.

Yesterday, one of the carnival rides broke down and a few people were injured. Awful. It was the “Zipper” (why is it always the Zipper?)!

I have images of flipping upside down over and over. I was probably ten. My parents refused to go on the ZIPPER with us (now I understand why).  So my daredevil uncle took us on the crazy ride. We flipped with glee. Nobody vomited cotton candy. Success!

Tonight we WILL go to the fair.
It’s our RE-DO and the last night of the Jackson County Fair.

We will not go on the Zipper.
But, I will hold those memories of funny, flipping, fair rides in my head as we walk by the 4H booths and rodeo clowns.

These days, it feels more thrilling and living on the edge to eat cotton candy than to ride the ZIPPER.  Funny how life can flip you around.

Speaking of life…
Yesterday I sent my card out to two little boys I adore. They are Luka and Kaleb Jessup. My little friends, happy pills, and all around cutie patooties who seem to be growing up way too fast. I was there for their birth-days and will continue to be there for them throughout life. They call me “Aunt Gigi” and it makes me squeal with delight.

I even taught Luka his first swear word (oops!).
See what a good aunt I am?

As for today, the card has been mailed to a very special friend.

She is one of the most creative people I know (and I hold the bar pretty high in that category!). She is a successful business owner, incredible mother and life-long friend. Can you guess?
More tomorrow.
