BLOG – GIFT DAY 304 :: snickers

31 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day our leftover Halloween candy.

We have an ABUNDANCE of Snickers candy bars leftover from our Halloween handouts.

Good thing these bars are FUN sized or else we would be in double, double, toil and trouble. I thought we had a plethora of zucchini HAUNTING us this summer and now we have GOBS of chocolate bars sitting on our counter.

Alas, there is a solution for every problem — the freezer!
Ours is well stocked with BOTH zucchini and Snickers.

So if anything happens, say a visit from zombies or the apocolypse, I think we’re prepared.

Happy Halloween.

More tomorrow.

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day... the Red Sox celebrating their World Series win on my TV.

I just have two words to say:

Boston. Strong.

And that’s enough abundance for me.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 302 :: an abundance of technology

29 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day… the new Samsung Galaxy Gear.

We spent a good portion of our day in the Verizon store today… trying to figure out which phones to upgrade to, which plan to share, just what kind of technology we need to stay in touch and go about our normal routines.

I was inspired by this Galaxy Gear. Unfortunately it wasn’t entirely working in the store so we didn’t get to see it in action.  But it does remind me about something else…

We live in an abundance of technology these days. It’s really quite astounding when you stop and think about how wired we are and what we have access to with the touch of a finger. Music. Apps. Research. Ideas. Creative solutions. Literally you can reach and touch ANYONE.

It reminds me of a book titled: ABUNDANCE.  As the website says:

“Providing abundance is humanity’s grandest challenge—this is a book about how we rise to meet it.”

As the book points out — the future is brighter than you think.
And I like that.

In the end, I ended up with another iPhone (hey, it was a free upgrade!) but I still have something quite unimaginable. So do you.

The power of technology at your fingertips.
The ability to connect with anyone.
A world of abundance.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 301 :: an abundance of sox

28 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day a little Red Sox love.

We are rooting on our favorite team over here even though we’ve moved to the “other” coast.  And in the middle of all this World Series Showdown I am reminded about something I learned a while ago…  The Joy of Sox.

The Joy of Sox basically describes the power of invisible forces, energy and fans. You can read more here. Need more proof, check out this video on metronomes syncing.

And, of course, I can’t help but think of all the abundance that comes from adding pure love and joy to any pursuit.

Check out this player quote from a recent article:

“We’re not curing cancer over here, man,” Dempster said. “We really aren’t. We’re not solving the economic crisis of the country. We’re out there playing baseball. We play a game and we don’t forget that we’re playing a game, and to laugh and to have fun and enjoy it.”

It makes me think….
How can I add fun, love and joy to my pursuits?

What about you? How can you reign in the joy?

BLOG – GIFT DAY 300 :: an abundance of play

27 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day... a playground.

It’s from a local park.

And when I walked by the playhouse this weekend there was a part of me that wanted to run over and jump and slide and PLAY.

But I didn’t.  I just walked on by.

But it reminds me of something really important…. I love to play.
And I don’t always make time to do it.

Maybe I need to schedule a play day?  Or a moment in my week to have just some time to create random fun.

Or just to slide.

How do you make time for play?

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 299 :: an abundance of creepiness

26 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day a pile of leaves.

This is two-part post, really.

The first part is this… on my walk home today I noticed the piles of leaves lining the sidewalks all along downtown.

It’s like the trees all got together and decided to drop all their leaves overnight.

By the time I arrived home I noticed the layer of leaves lining our own driveway and front lawn. They were so deep you could swim through them.

I’m not sure why, but this inspired me.
To rake.

As I raked in the October sun I could feel my abs getting a workout. I’ve been looking into local gyms recently, but this raking was such a good workout.

I thought to myself, maybe I should just spend more time in the yard?

It would be good for so many reasons…. I get exercise, the yard gets tender loving care, not to mention it costs nothing but a little time and sweat.

Then a little child ran giggling down the sidewalk. He was dressed as Spiderman and his little Honeybee sister came giggling after.  Not too long after that, what I can only assume were the miniature Honeybee and Spiderman’s parents walked by my raking with their stroller.

I smiled. They smiled back.

I continued to rake big leafy piles of crisp yellow leaves convinced I had discovered the world’s best workout.  My abs were already tighter, practically ready for bikini season.

A leaf scraped against my ankle and I shook it away. But I could still feel it rubbing up against my sneaker.  So I turned to look at my left leg and saw that IT WAS NOT A LEAF stuck inside my shoe.

It was a spider.
A big, black spider was burying between my anklet sock and my heel.

I yelped. No, I screamed. Really loud. And jumped. And threw my shoe and ripped my sock off my foot and ran to the front porch. While I was jumping and screaming I grabbed my other sneaker and tore the remaining sock off too.

For a minuscule second I thought about leaving my socks and shoes outside, not sure if the spider was somehow stuck inside one of them, but then decided against that plan. My shoes would become a spider nest if left them outside the front door.

Instead I turned my shoes upside down in the front entryway and proceeded to strip naked in the middle of the living room.  I immediately tossed every article of clothing into the washing machine.

Then I took a bath.
A really long, hot bath.

As I sat in the bathtub, my skin still crawling from the sight of a spider creeping into my shoe, I remembered what I saw right before I felt the spider.

A little boy in costume giggling down the street.
In a Spiderman costume.

And then I laughed.
I mean really, this fear of mine is ridiculous. And I know it. I just can’t control it in the middle of an attack. The fear sneaks up on me just like the spiders do.

And it’s always THE WORST when I am sideswiped and have no warning. As much as I try, as much as I work on this fear of mine, it’s so hard to control when I don’t see it coming.

But today, in the middle of the bright afternoon sunshine, I should have known better.

As I soaked in the tub I made a decision.
I’ve got to join a gym.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 298 :: what are you thankful for?

25 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day… my coworker, Pup.

Sometimes Pup looks right through me, as if he knows EXACTLY what I am thinking.

Today he gave me such a look which I happily captured on my phone.

If he thought I was capturing his photo so I could post it on this blog and revel in the abundance of love and attention our pups give us, well… he was right.

Smart Pup.
And I am thankful.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 297 :: mixing it up

24 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day… my Great Aunt Deenie’s mixer.

This week I pulled something amazing from the garden…. drum roll please…

Not kidding.
I thought the garden was done, over, dried up, finished.

It’s still producing. And we haven’t watered it in weeks. We haven’t weeded it since even longer.

So I pulled out the old recipe book and made another triple batch of zucchini bread.  The thing is, this time, I used my Kitchen-Aid mixer — the mixer that was my great aunt’s mixer.

I don’t even know how old this mixer is… but it works like a charm. It once sat on my mother’s kitchen counter and now it sits on mine.

I had my own Kitchen-Aid mixer once… it was a wedding gift, all high speed, beautiful and brand new.  But I lost it in the divorce, like most of the items I collected in my marriage.

The thing is, the used mixer, the one that has been in my family, means so much more to me now. And maybe that’s what this garden has been trying to tell me, or teach me, through an abundance of zucchini bread.

Some things are meant to stay in the family.
And that’s abundance if you ask me.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 296 :: leaves out my window

23 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day the view out my window.

I sat on the floor of my office today — to pet Pup.  Sometimes I do that, get down to their level just to share a moment with my doggies.

As I sat on the floor I looked up and noticed something I have never seen before.

A view.

It was a view out my window of a tree, some leaves and the blue, blue sky.

It’s the same tree I see all hours of the day every day. But today I had a new angle on it, a different perspective, from a different level.

And that makes me realize that sometimes abundance is just looking at the same thing in a different way.

Same world.
New view.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 295 :: an abundance of pups

22 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance this year, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day… our Pups.

I found this photo of our PUPS today. Brady is the little one and Pup is the big one.

The photo is over a year old and our little Brady looks so tiny.  Our big Pup also looks younger with less white whiskers on his chin.

It’s amazing how time flies, how fast we grow, how much we learn.

Pup has taught Brady how to be a dog – even though Brady doesn’t always listen.  And Brady has taught Pup how to run and play again – even though Pup can’t always keep up.

Brady is a handful most of time, and a ball of love the rest of the time. He is constantly hugging and hanging close to whatever warm body is in the room. Even with all of his antics we are convinced that Brady has given Pup at least another 5 years of life.

Without this little ball of energy our eleven year old Pup wouldn’t run after the ball to get it first. He wouldn’t jump as high or bark as loud.

He certainly wouldn’t have a little brother to lay on top of his head or sit on him either.

It’s brotherly love really.
And a whole bunch of Abundance too.

More tomorrow.
