Last Christmas by Wham!

Baby It’s Cold Outside from the movie ELF

And, my favorite, because, well, we were AT this concert:

BLOG – GIFT DAY 354 :: it’s not always what you think

20 Dec

I love this ad from Apple.
It reminds me that things are not always what you (initially) think.

We have experienced a year of miracles around here.

So many miracles!
Even though it hasn’t always felt or seemed that way in the moment.

I found a lump in my throat. (scary!)
After surgery it turned out benign. Miracle!

Brady ran away this summer. (scary!)
Brady returned home safely because a wonderful woman found him and called the local radio station. Miracle!

We lost the bikes off the back of our car during our cross country adventure. (scary!)
Nobody was injured. Miracle!

Brady jumped the fence and went on his own adventure. (scary!)
I luckily saw it happen and knew which direction to send Justin on the chase. We found Brady making friends in the neighborhood and safely brought him home. Miracle!

Miracle are everywhere.

Just goes to show things are not always what you (initially) think.
Sometimes you have to wait around for the rest of the story.
Sometimes you have to wait for the miracle to show up.
And sometimes you have to look at it differently to see the hidden gift.

My gift of the day is this:
I wish you many, many miracles.

Thank you for being here.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 353 :: christmas kisses

19 Dec

There’s nothing like a wet, slobbery kiss.

From your dog.
While you’re trying to write holiday cards.

Pup wouldn’t stop bothering me at my desk tonight, so I caught him in the action.

At first I just wanted him to stop begging. So I placed the Santa hat on his head.
He thought it was a toy. And who could blame him with that big ball of fuzzy white stuff hanging on the tippy top of the hat?

Then he thought it was an invitation to kiss me.

It reminds me that, sometimes, when we think someone is “BOTHERING” us they are really just trying to share their love. And gifts.

And really wet, slobbery kisses.
MMMMwha.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 352 :: live with passion

18 Dec

A surprise landed on our doorstep today.

A box of magnets. A gift! (I love this time of year!)

And it reminded me of something important.
Passion.

One of the biggest lessons I have learned this year is the importance of passion. Living with passion, infusing passion into the things I want to happen, my goals, dreams, big ideas.

Kind of ironic that a magnet reminded me of this lesson. Because the more passion we infuse in our life and activities, the more we magnetize and attract others. Which adds more energy, more energy and more energy.

A positive force, a magnetic attraction.
And we all have access to it every day of the year.

An amazing gift if you ask me.
How are you using your magnets?

BLOG – GIFT DAY 351 :: a week till christmas eve

17 Dec

The year is winding down and the holidays are gearing up!

And today I wrote my first of three Card Crusade cards.

Since I sent so many cards this summer I have been thinking very deeply about who will be my “three” people to thank this holiday.

And, after much head throbbing I finally figured it out!

I will send cards to people who I feel have:

  • inspired me
  • helped me
  • believed in me

That is my criteria. And believe me it’s HARD to whittle it down to just three, but I want to make sure my three receive super-meaningful cards and the proper thanks for all they have done for me.

The interesting thing is this:  it has bled over to my regular holiday cards.

Just being mindful about how three people have impacted my life has made me more thoughtful to each person I send a holiday greeting.

It’s powerful, this gratitude thing.
So today, my gift is a card. A very thoughtful, heartfelt, deeply thankful one.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 350 :: dog gone it!

16 Dec

I may have found the best holiday card for dog lovers.

If you have a soft spot in your heart for puppies of any kind I think you can appreciate these cards by William Wegman.

For me, of course, it will come as no surprise that I experienced love at first sight. And some of you lucky peeps will get one of these in the mail from me this year.

But I have a few other cards up my sleeve too… so watch your mailbox!
Until then…. please check out The Card Crusade and help us spread some cheer this year.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 349 :: it’s a wrap!

15 Dec

I think I just found the best holiday invention… ever.

Reversible gift wrap.
Okay, that might be an exaggeration but still… AMAZING!

Green stripes on one side.
Santa pattern on the other.

The best part was that I had no idea I was buying reversible gift wrap until I got it home and “unwrapped” it.

It was a surprise.
But it was the best kind of surprise, an added-value, unexpected perk, better-than-you-could-imagine sort of surprise.

It’s a reminder for me too. And for anyone trying to surprise and delight — whether it’s your clients, customers, friends or family.

More tomorrow.

P.S. Today’s gift goes to Justin. He just can’t open it until Christmas.  (Hint: it’s in the boxes with reversible gift wrap.)

BLOG – GIFT DAY 348 :: foiled again!

14 Dec

Yesterday I was so thrilled to receive our first Holiday Cards!

But upon further inspection I was foiled.
By Direct TV.

The card looked so genuine. So holiday-ish. All holiday stamped and calligraphy-looking addresses too.

Such trickery.

But never fear. We did recieved REAL cards in the mail!
Including my new set of Green Ink holiday cards.

I can’t help myself.
I must share the LOVE with you too…

…including this pic of Pup and Brady snuggling by the fire (er… space heater).

It’s pure love.
And such a GIFT that these two pups get along so well.
And I count it as my gift of the day.

It’s a blessing really.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 347 :: and here we have…

13 Dec

Holiday Cards!

We have received our first three holiday cards in the mail.
Which reminds me that it truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

So tonight, I reflect on the power of saying and sharing what’s on your heart. If you haven’t joined The Card Crusade yet, I highly encourage you to take a look.

It’s all about sending three cards — that’s it!
But it’s so much more.

I challenge you to send three cards to three people you love and tell them why they inspire you, why you appreciate them, and how they changed your life.

Because these three cards are heartfelt, thank you, gratitude, full of love cards that will change a life.

Sending holiday cards every year is a beloved tradition.
Telling someone how much they changed your life…
Priceless.

It’s the most wonderful GIFT of the year.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 346 :: oh the weather outside is…

12 Dec

Frightful? Delightful?

I suppose it depends on who you ask. What’s your weather like?

But I digress…
Because tonight I am thinking about perseverance. Mostly because I can’t stop coughing and this cold is making me tired. It’s also making me look pretty frightful.

But I press on.
And that right there is why I am thinking about perseverance.

I am absolutely convinced that any brand of success comes from two things: Passion + Focus.

It’s the passion that gets you through the tough times. It’s passion that paves the way when you don’t know the answers or how to / what to / where to.

But it’s focus that keeps you on target.

And, tonight, while the weather outside my door is pretty frightful, inside it’s quite delightful because I am focused on showing up every day on this blog. It feels good to have a focus. And it feels good to deliver on a promise.

But more than anything, it feels good to know that I also made a promise to you. In good weather and bad. I will show up because I am no fair weather friend.

I will be here.
For you.

And now, if you’re in the mood to go “ahhh” check out this video of an ad campaign that redefines beauty.

Now I’m off to get my beauty sleep!

More tomorrow.
