Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 119 :: a beautiful mastectomy

30 Apr

I’m focusing on the beauty. It’s been my mantra around here for weeks.

Tonight is my first night back from surgery writing live, in-person, real time on the blog. I have been taking it easy for the past few days. And I’ve been a bit loopy! For instance, I keep saying that I’m getting styrofoam implants instead of silicone… I blame the pain killers.

One thing I know for certain is this: if you must undergo surgery, I highly recommend focusing on the beauty and the love.

I feel so blessed to be healing in such a gorgeous place. Manzanita, Oregon is situated on the coast with seven miles of a pristine, sandy beach.

But even more important, I am surrounded with beautiful, loving people.  I don’t know what I would have done without the love and support of Jaynane and Justin.

I really don’t know what I would have done without my own personal nurse by my side.  Just deciphering which drugs to take at what time requires a PhD.

As I sat on the deck with Jaynane the first night we were here, I asked her about my mom. Even though I lost her in my early twenties, I missed out on being an adult with my mom and never really knew her without childlike eyes.

“What did she like?” I asked.

Jaynane rattled off a list of items that she loved. Including watching seagulls.

“She got such a kick out of watching those seagulls.”
Then, a few hours later while we getting ready for a dinner Justin pointed out the window and said, “Look at that!?”

It was a seagull. Standing on our deck looking in the window, as if it were waiting for an invitation to join us.

“That’s my mom!” I exclaimed.

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t my mom, but it was a sign. Probably the most beautiful sign I’ve seen so far. So I’m going to keep looking for the beauty.

My first check-up is tomorrow and we still have a few more days at the the beach so I can fully heal. But there is something in me forever changed.

But it’s all good. As we say around here… “wooo wooo for the ta tas!”

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 111 beautiful earth day

22 Apr

Happy Earth Day!

Seems like no better time than today to introduce the next series here: it’s called Beautiful Places.

It’s two-fold. One for beauty and the other for boobies.

As I head into Portland tomorrow and surgery on Friday I am holding in my heart all the beauty I can. So while I am away I will share some of the most beautiful places I have been to (or want to go to!).

It feels like a wonderful way to celebrate Mother Earth.

It all starts tomorrow. See you here… then!

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

{what are your most beautiful places?}

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 110 :: two beautiful words

21 Apr

Tonight, all I can say are two beautiful words: THANK YOU.

So many beautiful cards. Over 30 stacked up on my turquoise chest. Mostly orchestrated by the Davis Family… and some really special friends too.

It doesn’t show the incredible acts of kindness I have received from friends in the form of emails, books, notes, gifts, hearts, a video ….and a gift certificate for a NEW bra. (Who knows what size it will be?!)

As I go into the week ahead all I have to say is thank you.

Let me say that again.
Thank you.
Beautiful. Words.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
