JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 309 :: get janes

7 Nov
Yesterday I did something new. I brought my own gown with me to the doctor. It was complements of Get Janes whose mission is to bring more dignity and empowerment to women during mammograms, breast health exams and physician appointments.

I have to admit, I felt a little funny telling Maureen, my nurse, that I had my own gown in tow. But as I showed her the beautiful carrying bag and pulled out the soft white gown she was pleased as punch. Mostly because of all the laundry that the hospital has to send out each day of used gowns.

And that makes sense.

It also made me feel a small, itty bit more in control of my appointment. Kind of like the thrill of the first moment when I was a toddler and decided to choose my own clothing.  And if there is one moment in time when a woman wants a tiny bit more control it is right before she bares her breasts to the boob smashing machine, a.k.a. a mammogram.

Of course, I did not have a mammogram yesterday, just a doctor’s exam since there is no more breast tissue left on my chest. Even still, I felt confident in the super soft fabric gown that completely covered my body. Bonus! The gowns are long — even on six foot me!

And that definitely makes for a more comfortable experience. Maybe it’s not a peak performance, but it’s certainly better than feeling bare AND naked before getting your tatas squeezed!

I’m a fan. Thank you Janes. And, it’s nice to know that every purchase helps fund mammograms for women in need.

If you know someone who could use a little more coverage or control for their next mammogram appointment, send her to Janes!

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
