JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 345 :: repeat the sounding joy

17 Dec

Peak performance moment of the day:  Listening to Christmas music as I work.

I love Christmas music. Almost all holidays tunes. I can even tolerate the really bad Christmas music. There’s something special about something that only happens once a year. The anticipation. The excitement. The preparation.

In a surprise turn of events I will be heading home to Idaho for a funeral this weekend. Seems ironic on many levels. I haven’t seen this side of my family around Christmas for so many years. And it is Christmas that practically defined this part of my family during my childhood.

Christmas was when all my cousins gathered under my Grandma Mary’s tree. It’s when we exchanged gifts with each other in our annual name-drawing-gift-giving escapade. (One year three cousins gave each other the same exact gift …not sure if our parents had anything to do with that one?).

I have so many memories of giggling with glee with my cousins, aunts and uncles all eating Grandma Mary’s secret recipe of lethal baked beans. Hard to forget that recipe even when we were relegated to the Kids Table.

As I wrap up work so that I can return home, I’m sad to be returning for a funeral. But it has me thinking that sometimes the worst of times brings back the best of times.

Soon it will be Christmas Day.
Repeat the sounding joy.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

 {what Christmas memories do you have?}
