JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 31 :: magical woods

31 Jan

Day 31. One-Hundred Acre Woods.

It sounds like Winnie-The-Pooh and Robin Hood too. The One-Hundred Acre Woods. I’ve heard about it from a few people now. As in, “You live right next to the one-hundred acre woods!”

So, today, we set out to find them.

Not all 100 of them, of course that will take years I think (maybe… right?), but find a few of them we did! Pup sniffed his way through every piece of acre we covered. Brady helped too. Pointing us in the right direction.

It felt a bit magical in a Sherwood Forest sort of way. We didn’t meet any merry men but did meet several other dogs and their owners, and runners, and bikers. And I met a very sweet woman (named, you guessed it, Robin!) who stopped to talk with Brady.

“Vizsla?” She said.
“Yes!” I answered.

And in some odd way I felt like somehow I knew her, or had met her before. She gave me some local tips and then buried her face next to Brady’s and patted him on the head. Almost like she had met him before too.

Then off into the woods she walked. And I thought…Nice to meet you Robin. Thanks for sharing your woods.

Tonight, as I reflect on our day (and my sore muscles from our hike) I wonder what else there is to explore in our new world (besides yoga = which I already did for the day!).

It’s not Nottingham.. it’s Bellingham.
And I think she still has some magic to show us.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 30 :: bunny yoga

30 Jan

Day 3o. Hop, Hop, Hopping along!

This is a real thing. Bunny Yoga!

My friend Ruth sent this to me …and I would do it in a second. Hoppily!
But tonight, I see not bunnies in my future. There’s barely a hop left in my step. So maybe a nice restorative session before I’m off to bed.

Night. Night!

More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 29 :: bum deal

29 Jan

Day 29. Da Glutes!

Tonight Yoga centered on the glutes. The bum. Bringing up the rear

Last night’s yoga was all about sweet dreams….and it worked. I slept like a baby (who didn’t want to get out of bed this morning).

So far this yoga, while not too intense yet, is making me listen to my body. I’m still not ready for that power class I could do pre-surgeries. And that has me thinking about speed.

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” -CONFUCIUS

So tonight, it’s all rear end. But at least I didn’t stop.
And that’s, maybe, the whole point.
The bum deal.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 28 :: sleeping better

28 Jan

Day 28. Experimenting.

Tonight I’m experimenting… Bedtime Vinyasa Yoga. It’s to help you sleep better… so I thought maybe I should write this blog post before I yoga and go off to sleep.

I’ll report back tomorrow.
Sweet dreams….

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 27 :: hip, hip hooray

27 Jan

Day 27. Fearless.

Tonight I learned something. We store our fear in our pelvic area, hip, hip hooray! Actually I did a gentle hip-opening. And I followed along with pigeons and frogs and whelp! a few painful moments. Or rather a flashback to my childhood “I can do the splits” moments.

(Side note: Do all children do the splits… they must, right? And who teaches us to do the splits in the first place? No real life adult I ever met in childhood could do them…although maybe now with yoga…)

Anyhoo, it has me thinking about love and fear and all that must be stored down there. Which brings me to this video on: Labels.

Maybe a hip opening is really a mind opening?
The hip bone’s connected to the brain bone…

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 26 :: birthday yoga

26 Jan

Day 26. The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything.

Birthday. Birth. Rebirth. 42.

(this was breakfast!)

Today I’m thinking about birthdays. And birth. And rebirth. And what this 42nd year holds. It is my favorite number! My basketball number! The magical 42.

If you type “what is the meaning of life the universe and everything” into Google it will send you the answer: 42.

And…according to Wikipedia 42 is the angle rounded to whole degrees for which a rainbow appears.

Meaning of Life? Rainbows? Universe? Everything! This sounds good.

So it seems I might be entering the magic. Bring on the magic universe! And a few rainbows. But first… I need to do some birthday yoga…(there might be cake afterwards!).

More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 25 :: this gift

25 Jan

Day 25. This gift.

It’s almost an hour until my birthday begins. So this gift is on me, to you, if you like free yoga that is.

Click here: LISTING OF FREE YOGA

Okay, maybe that’s not the biggest gift ever given… but I am starting to think that this year of yoga could be the best gift I ever gave to myself. Of course the jury is out for about another 340 days.

I have to admit, tonight, I didn’t feel like any sort of downward dog. And that’s the power of a promise. It’s a nudge, a kick in the pants, a reminder of what I said I would do, every single day. So I did my yoga. And I felt better once it was done.

And that brings me to this: my Mama Sling. I realized in the middle of my downward, upward, sun salutations that what I really wanted was a hug from my mom. On the eve of my birthday my thoughts center on her – what was she thinking, doing, dreaming, hoping, bracing herself for in these moments before I came into the world just after the clock struck midnight. (I did break her tailbone, so maybe it’s best that we not relive that particular moment in time.)

As long as she’s been gone I still long for these moments with her, how she would retell the story of my birth (all ten, wrinkled, roly-poly pounds of me). And yet, the older I get, the more I find my birthday story is really her story. After that day, the rest of my days are my own promises to keep.

So tonight I bought myself an early birthday gift. A new pen.
To write the rest of my story.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 24 :: losing yoga

24 Jan

Day 24. The sting of loss.

Still a bit under the weather but feeling so much better. Except for the pounding in the front of my head. I’m not sure if it’s from my cold or from defeat. As in, a Patriots loss.

While I sat licking our collective Patriot wounds I did think of my dear Mama Sling — she was a Broncos fan, and she, would have been thrilled to see her orange team win. I suppose that’s the hardest part of sports. For every winner there must be a loser.

So tonight I did yoga while watching another team win. Stretched out in front of the television I pigeoned my way through a Carolina victory.

And maybe that helped to squeeze out the agony of defeat. Or maybe not, but at the very least, it was a daily jolt of yoga. And… there’s always next year.

Oh, yeah…does anyone know yoga to cure headaches?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 23 :: less sick yoga

23 Jan

Day 23. Just a little bit.

Taking it slow over here. Still under the weather but feeling so much better. Justin brought me breakfast in bed (with heart-shaped eggs) and a plethora of cold medicine.

So my yoga tonight was small.

Just little moves.
A stretch here, a down dog there. A child’s pose too.
But sometimes (most times) it’s the little things that count the most.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY :: 22 sick yoga

22 Jan

Day 22. Permission to slow down.

Woke up with a fever. Have been shivering all day. And yet, I made a promise to do yoga at the beginning of the year. So, yoga in bed it was. With a video found on YouTube:

I never really thought of yoga as a listening tool. A way to listen to my body. Yet, tonight I did.

Now back under the covers I go, chic flick loaded on Netflix, tea on.
Permission to slow down, granted.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
