JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 73 :: stronger

Day 73: Uppers.

Upper body strength has never been my strong suit. Or, really, never been very strong for me at all. No one has ever walked by me and said, “wow, look at those guns” and by “guns” I, of course, mean biceps.

Even during the height of my basketball athletic body days I couldn’t really do chin-ups like the rest of them. Mine were more like hairline-ups. Maybe eye-ups on a good day.

So tonight, we broke it down to the basics. Upper body strength. Or, a fake ChaturangaIt was a bit more like chin downs than chin ups but I was still as weak (I used a block and didn’t quite make it all the way down to the floor).

At the end of the sequence the instructor on the video said, “if you do this every day…” and I thought… YES. If I do this every day. Good thing I am doing this every day.

And that has me thinking… what IF I did it every day? What would happen to my upper body strength?

You see, it’s so much easier to work on the things you are already strong with, where your strengths lie, where your biceps bulge. So much harder to get your chin up. But, I suppose that might be how you strengthen your strength.

By doing the things that aren’t easy but you know will make you stronger.
