JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 140 :: concert hangover

21 May

Day 140: The Day After.

Slow. Yoga. Today.
And that’s okay. I have concert hangover. Not from alcohol, more from the energetic buzz of being at the show. Seeing the Piano Man in action.

Billy Joel was quite inspiring. 67. Still rocking it. Moving stadium crowds to applaud, dance, scream, shout. Proving that it’s still rock and roll to him, and many, many more.

And it has me thinking about Gifts. With a capital G.

Justin gave his mom the Gift of her first rock and roll concert. And I received the Gift of being there to witness it, to play and to sing along.

(At one point in time Jaynane asked if that “skunky” smell was what she thought it was and I nodded my head yes, it was indeed marijuana).

But then there was the beautiful sky blue Seattle skyline. The Safe with the top popped because there was no rain in sight. The bright pink sunset. And the man, the myth, the legend, Billy Joel doing what he does best. Sharing his musical Gift.

I suppose Gifts are meant to be shared. Keeping Gifts to ourselves doesn’t allow them to be set free. If they are kept safe and hidden then they can’t reach out and touch the hearts of others. Which really is the point, isn’t it? Why we are here I think. To share.

And to forget about Life for a while.

That is a true Gift.
Thanks Piano Man.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 139 uptown girls

20 May

Day 139: Hello Seattle.

It’s a sunny blue sky in Seattle today.  A perfect welcome to Billy Joel – the man, the myth, the legend.

And it’s this gorgeous girl’s first concert:

So we are going Uptown, Girl, thanks to her little boy. (Thanks for the tickets Justin!)

And that brings me to this — the importance of having things to look forward to.
Work done.
Yoga done.
Blog done.

Bring on the fun!

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

P.S. Posting from the parking garage… you can do anything!!!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 138 :: show time

19 May

Day 138: I’m here.

This is one of those nights. You know, the ones where I show up and announce… I’m here! Show. Time. Showing up. That’s what I do.

Even on nights like this. Where it’s late. And I’m weary. But I have a plan and a promise. So…. yoga’s next. Blog done. Promise on.

Are you showing up for your promises?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 137 :: dogged determination

18 May

Day 137: Brady.

I live with a food stalker. His name is Brady. He knows where all the food in the house is at all times. I mean ALL the food at ALL times.

Here is sleeps so cute and cuddly next to Pup. But really, this is all a facade. He is calculating his next sneaky food-swiping move.

Which he promptly orchestrated moments after I took this photo. It was just a bowl of oatmeal. But he devoured it in the 30 seconds I walked away from the kitchen. DEVOURED it. An entire bowl of oatmeal. Dry, bland oats.

Thanks to Brady, there will be no second batch of oatmeal chocolate power bars. There aren’t enough oats left to mix a bar together for breakfast.

But I think there is much we can learn from our little Brady. Sure, the obvious is to not leave food out on the counter (even said oats). But there is more to observe.

This dog.
He has me thinking a lot about dogged determination. In the pursuit of what we love most. For him it is food. Any food. Even dry, bland, oats.

For you it might be dancing, singing, creating, doing. For me, it is making promises and showing up. And this year, that means yoga.

But there is also this: opportunity.
Brady knows how to patiently wait for his window of opportunity to open. And when it appears he leaps. There is no second guessing. No hesitation. No over-thinking. There is no self-talk. Brady does not stop to ask, “Should I go for that bowl of oats now? What if she comes back and finds me all head in the bowl paws on the counter? What if I get in trouble?”

Nope. Brady is all action.
He’s a Wait. Watch. Strike. Live with the consequences sort of dog.
And as frustrating as that is at times, I have to say, I respect it.
No, I actually love it. It’s inspiring really.

So, tonight, as I put away the rest of my oatmeal chocolate bar ingredients, I leave you with this. The next time you find yourself waiting and watching, just think of Brady.

And…
Go for it.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 136 ::curious turns

17 May

Day 136: Stretch.

Tonight I took a turn. Out of curiosity. And found this.

It was a pretty little view. Kind of out of nowhere. Just a turn. One simple turn. It wasn’t the wrong turn, or the right turn for that matter. It was a curious turn. A departure from my normal path.

Interesting what we see when we make an unexpected turn.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 135 :: taking steps

16 May

Day 135: Body.

So this happened. It’s a long story that involves a slipped arch, a shoe store and my feet. Which had me leaving with these:

It’s funny, this yoga thing. It has me more aware of my body. Something I didn’t think was possible after so many surgeries and recoveries and power yoga days before that.

But I am learning to pay attention to the signs. To listen more deeply to my body and all that she needs. Including shoes that are more therapy than style – although, I am getting used to the look of these leather straps on my feet.

It all boils down to:
More. Support.
And that is a beautiful (and very stylish) thing.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 134 :: happy being

15 May

Day 134: Happy.

How lovely to spend the day with family. Celebrating on the bay. Honoring Pup and Brady’s Big Papi with some Red Sox love. Tickets that is. For August. In Seattle. All for David Ortiz and our love of Boston.

And Justin, of course. The Birthday Boy.

It’s just one of the many things I love most about this guy. He is royally loyal. He loves what he loves, deeply and more enthusiastically than anyone else in the world. The Patriots. The Red Sox. Pearl Jam. His Family. Pup. Brady. And me. Probably not in that order.

But regardless of who comes first on that short list of deep affection, I feel so blessed to be on that list. It’s a gift to be loved so unconditionally and fully by another human being. Quite possibly the best gift of all.

I hope, dear Justin, you feel that gift coming back your way from everyone on the list. I can speak for most people anyway, when I say, we love you. As far as Eddie Vedder and Tom Brady go, well… you might have to ask them directly. And Big Papi, you’ll see him in August.

Birthdays are beautiful things, really. How wonderful to have a day to celebrate being here. Just being. Ah… and that’s the yoga talking.

Happy being day.

More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 133 :: cra-cra-crazy

14 May

Day 133: Namaste.

Tonight’s post is easy. Crazy easy. Ridiculously easy. It’s just a photo spotted while shopping with some of my favorite girls.

How ridiculously crazy easy is that? Sometimes when inspiration strikes you literally walk right into it. Crazy.

Namaste.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 132 :: building strength

13 May

Day 132: Eating crow.

It’s amazing what this body of mine can do…and what I don’t give her credit for.

Like today, during a yoga class, when I surprised myself. The instructor said “crow” and I hesitated. It’s not easy for me to do the Crow Post and I rarely do it well. But then, without any regard to my thought process my Body, she, all on her own, did it. A crow. Without my help.

And when I say that, I mean, seriously without my help. There was no thinking involved. No brains. No though process. Just my body and her strength taking me up into a crow.

It’s a beautiful thing really. And something I’m leaning in this year of yoga. Some things need to be done with the head. Others with the heart. And at times, there are things that you just have to trust to the body.

She is a miracle, indeed.

More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 131 the view from here

12 May

Day 131: Viewpoint.

Before I lay me down to sleep… I have to do yoga.
But before that… I took this photo today. Ah… beauty. Ah….mazing.

The best part? I actually stopped to take it in. To view the view.
To enjoy it.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
