JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 196 :: just dance

21 Jul

Day 196: Summer.

Tonight, I danced. And it’s a good reminder for me. To dance with life.

We went to a summer festival outdoor concert. The night was hot, the music by Rabbit Wilde was great and the dancing was on. (So was the sweat.)

Kids. Elderly. Parents. Teens. Grandmas. Babies. Me. All dancing.

As we left, I asked Jill if dancing counted as my yoga tonight, and she said “sure!” because dance is the highest form of yoga. Or that was how yoga started. Or something that tied yoga and dance together.

Anyhoo… my point is… sometimes you do what you can do and that is a good thing to do. And tonight…. I danced. Me! I don’t normally dance without copious amounts of alcohol going through my veins. But tonight, all I had was Thai food and two little girls who wanted to dance.

And it’s a good reminder to me…. to dance.
To dance with life.

Just dance.

More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 195 :: home sweet home

20 Jul

Day 195: Getting Real.

I am home. Home sweet home.

Back in the swing of things. And back to my home practice of yoga. Which is different than my travel yoga practice… and a bit more deliberate. Still, I carry on.

Back in the saddle again!

More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 194 :: airport yoga

19 Jul

Day 194: Adventures.

Headed home on a jet plane… headed back to this funny face:

As I sit in the airport I realize I am getting good at airport yoga…. stretching while sitting, bending while standing still, breathing while waiting in line.

There should be a whole new category of moves for airport yoga like….
The Downward Dodge – moving out of the way of the 2-year-old behind me in line who was on a leash (yes, a child leash) and kept running in and out of the legs of the people all around him (not related to him).

There is a yoga room at this airport but not in my terminal… so alas I have yet to really do yoga at an airport. Maybe next trip.

Until then… I’m downward dodging all the way home!

More tomorrow.

Jamie

18 Jul

Day 193: Party.

Just a little reminder tonight… life is a party.

And we are all invited to the “Carnivale.”
And now I do yoga… fast, easy and soon… bedtime.

More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 191 :: uncharted territory

16 Jul

Day 191: Discover.

New things.
I tried Core Power Yoga today while I am here in Chicago. The biggest bonus? They offer a free week trial. Sooooo yeah, can’t beat that.

I went in this morning expecting this:

It was more like this (because it was a SCULPT class… gulp!):

But I came out like feeling like this:

Mostly because I made it through the power heat, cardio inspired, bench pressing, vinyasa, jump roping, squatting sweat induced saga.

And also because this is the first of a kind for me since surgery. I haven’t pushed my upper body this far for two years. I haven’t dared to try. But now I know, I can do it. (Maybe not the entire routine, I still go at my own pace, but I can do it).

It felt great. Both the sweat dripping down my arms but also the pure discovery of finding out how far I can stretch. And lift. And bend.

And even though it was like 30% yoga, it was 100% heart.
The core of all great discoveries.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 190 :: i heart _____

15 Jul

Day 190: All heart.

Today’s post is just for the heart: and the things that matter most.
Spotted in Chicago at Left Coast, a heart filled with words. Two things I love. Heart spotting and words with meaning.

What fills your heart?
And  now.. it’s about time for yoga.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 189 :: for the love of a pencil

14 Jul

Day 189: Erase.

I’m learning to love my pencils again. I haven’t used a pencil in so long. I’m kind of an ink girl. I love a good pen. I covet a good pen. Let’s face it, I HOARD good pens so that nobody else can use them.

But I am discovering the power of a pencil. And that little pink nub at the end. The eraser.

It’s so wonderful to use an eraser. To just make something disappear. Or change a word. Or change my mind. Erase it. Forever. And put something better in its place. Or something more beautiful. Or more exact. Or better fitting.

Last night my friend Vanessa, and Martha’s Vineyard yoga teacher from way back in the day, sent me these wise words about my daily yoga promise while I am traveling.

“Do your best, let go of the rest.”

Ah, yes. Doing my best. Letting go of the rest.
Erasing, it actually.
And that feels pretty good.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

P.S. and now I really do yo-ga.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 188 :: serendipity

13 Jul

Day 188: Just in time.

I love serendipity. Just the sound of the word makes me happy. And there is the movie too, which, come on, who doesn’t love a little serendipity and
John Cusak all mixed together?

Today, I felt the strong winds of serendipity at my back. First Bank of America called to let me know there was fraud on my account (thank you!). Then, as I walked to the nearest BOA to retrieve a new card and fix my account I felt a few raindrops. Teeny, tiny drops. Barely even there. But as soon as I opened the door to the bank the sky opened up.

It poured. I believe the term is cats and dogs. Or, as the bank teller said… gotta love Chicago weather. You never know what to expect.

But I kind of knew what to expect.
Serendipity.
I’m so happy the bank caught the issues before I did. I am so happy it was so easy to fix. And I was so happy to not get caught in that rainstorm.

It all has me wondering, why don’t we all just walk around expecting the best. Expecting easy. Ridiculously easy.

I kind of like the sound of that.
And serendipity.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

P.S. and now I yo-ga.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 187 :: travel tuesday

12 Jul

Day 187: Meditation Room.

I forgot to yoga today.. and now my plane is delayed. I must find an airport corner to do something calming. I also forgot to find the meditation room here at SEATAC airport. Apparently, there is one.

Instead, I found the Starbucks. Or, at least one of the Starbucks. And some coffee.

And now, I’m almost off on a jet plane. But before I fly, I wonder what would happen if airports had as many meditation rooms as they have Starbucks?

There’s an idea….the perfect airport:

  • Meditation rooms at every corner (instead of TV’s blaring bad news).
  • Electrical outlets at every chair (instead of one at a post that has fifteen people sitting on top off each other waiting their turn).
  • Seats without bars for armrests (so you can lay down somewhere while delayed).
  • I might even add a pet store too… you know, just to see cute puppies. (How calming would that be?)

Then again, maybe just a meditation room would fix all of the above.
And now, I must find a spot to do yoga…

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
