JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 147 :: landing kindness

31 May

Here.

The bird has finally landed. Plane delayed, red-eye adventure over.
How sweet it is to be on solid ground.

And that’s all the kindness I have tonight!

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 146 :: spinning kindness

30 May

Air Plane.

The airport is busier than one would think at almost midnight. The hallways are still buzzing, carts are moving, luggage is rolling, the moving walkway is moving.

And the children are dancing.

I am sitting here, intrigued, watching the children around me. One is pretending to be an airplane flying in the air, spinning around in circles, getting dizzy with excitement about the planes outside the big windows beyond before he boards the plane for a great adventure.

The other is bouncing up and down on his mother’s lap, in soft and snuggly pajamas. The kind that have feet and a zipper up the front. The kind I wish I were wearing before I board this red eye plane ride.

But I probably wouldn’t wear onesies pajamas or spin and twirl in the airport pretending to be a plane. It would look odd. Me, a grown woman with size 10 feet and almost 6 feet tall.

But wouldn’t it be fun?  And maybe kind to my soul?

The adults around me look exhausted. Anxiously awaiting their boarding call, the cramped seats, and tiny bathroom. They are wrapped up in head pillows and scarves with noses in books waiting for the boarding to begin, pretending this will be tolerable. I know, because I am one of them.

And yet, the children dance.

I take it as a message. Maybe kindness is telling me to lighten up. Maybe the airport is reminding me that we all start out as open minded travelers in this world, spinning with delight for every adventure.

What a trip.
…and good reminder.

More tomorrow….

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 145 :: kindness on consignment

29 May

Finding kindness.

Yesterday I found kindness on consignment. It was sitting on a shelf. Imagine my surprise…I moved it to this chair for a better photo:

It reminds me of this quote:

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.”― Wendy Mass

It also had me thinking about the kindness of consignment. Passing something on to someone else once it has met its mission in your life. I wonder who owned this “Be Kind” art piece. Why did they buy it? How long did it hang on their wall? What did they think when they looked at it? Did they pay attention to kindness? Did it change their life, or the lives of others in their life?

Who knows….

It has done its job well, by already showing up in mine. Even though I just snapped a photo I saw it. I really saw it for what it is. A reminder of what we all want.

To be seen. Even if sitting on a shelf in a consignment shop.
How kind.

More tomorrow….

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 144 :: kindness is…

28 May

Sunday Car Rides.

Today we took to the sun, and the road. ALL of us – two dogs and two humans packed into the little Bug. And while nothing makes Pup happier than a car ride….

He doesn’t like the water. But he LOVES meeting new people! And new smells! And other dogs!

And watching Pup watch the world go by reminds me that it’s very KIND to take a break, a little car ride and soak in the sun. (Even if you don’t like getting wet!).

Happy 3-Day weeeeeeeekend!

27 May

Sunshine.

Today the sun came out, just in time for a 3-day weekend and BBQ dinner. Maybe the kindest act Mother Nature has given us for months. And I will accept and allow every second of that warmth.

Sunny, sunny kindness.

Enjoy the weekend!

More tomorrow….

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 143 :: 4-letter word friday

26 May

Bath.

Today’s 4-letter word Friday is dedicated to that warm bubbly water. The bath. Sometimes there is nothing better than a Friday night bubble bath.

It is where I find some semblance of ease and poise and calm and grace. And that brings me to this: Self-Kindness. It feels stronger than self-care.

Self-care and self-compassion are wonderful, don’t get me wrong. But self-kindness feels deeper as if it soaks down to the core of my being instead of just a Band-Aid hovering over the top.

It is remembering to hold myself to a standard of love and kindness. And grace. Instead of perfection. Self-kindness is built out of love.

And the occasional bubble bath.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 142 :: kindness is…

25 May

The Force.

Tonight we talked about some memories of our youth – watching Michael Jordan play basketball and seeing Star Wars for the first time.

Both seemed to have that special something. Some might call it The Force. And…Today is the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars.

It has me thining about kindness. Being kind is a force too. A powerful one, when harnessed for good and prosperity and human kind. It’s an invisible one as well – one that can only be felt, sometimes seen in the way it makes an impact or a reaction.

The other similarity is this – we all have access to the force of kindness. It lives inside each of us.

Remember…
the Force will be with you, always.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY :: 141 kindness is…

24 May

Feeling Full.

I had coffee with some beautiful friends today and it left me feeling full. And that has me thinking about kindness.

Maybe filling each other’s cup is really the point of being kind. Making them feel so loved, so full of laughter, so happy and shining that their cup runneth over.

Choose your beverage.
Fill their cup!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 140 kindness is…

Imperfection.

I have been reflecting on the perfection of imperfections. Being perfectly imperfect. Mostly because of a table that we painted.

I love to paint furniture. It makes me happy. Especially if it has good “bones” that a color will bring out. We found a table that had good bones. An oak specimen that needed a little love. It was free. It was a perfect painter.

Fifty dollars later… we have a perfectly imperfect table.  It was almost perfect when we brought it inside. Painted Colonial Red and shiny bright we placed it in the living room. Then I noticed a small spot on the corner that needed to be touched up.

We tried to fix the spot and ruined a full corner.

The next day, we dragged it outside and resprayed the entire top. The paint immediately blistered and peeled away, causing the entire top of the table to be ruined. I mean RUINED.

It was almost perfect. Then we ruined it. Twice. So I went to the store and bought the one magical paint fix I know of — Killz Primer. I proceeded to not only paint a new coat of primer on the table, I also sang to it.

As I looked at the blistered Colonial Red table I kept thinking of kindness. What would be the kindest thing I could do to this table? It seemed the only trick I had left was to love it. Thus, the singing.

It worked. The table is back to functional.

The table now sits back inside. A little bumpy. A little streaked in all the wrong places. She is perfectly imperfect. And she has taught me a very valuable lesson in kindness: know the difference between a small spot and big issue. And being perfectly imperfect!

Science.

I revisited this article tonight. The science of kindness. And how we are hardwired to be connected.

Forget Survival of the Fittest: It Is Kindness That Counts

It has me thinking about the kind of kindness it takes to be intentional. To be connective. To reach out and think of someone else through the kindness of the heart.

And that’s just it – someone else. The fact that at the other end of the conversation, phone, email, bus, sidewalk, road… there is another heart. Connective heart space. Connective kindness.

Connect.
