Kindness.

Tomorrow we leave this beautiful place near the top of the Rocky Mountains. It has been a week to remember, full of surprises, laughter, and tears.

The air is thin at 8,000 feet in the air but our hearts have been filled with family stories, memories, and moments never to forget. Including our surprise wedding.

One of the best parts of a wedding (surprise or no surprise) is the joining of families. And, I couldn’t be happier to be welcomed into this one.

This pretty much sums up the kindness that I have been shown by this Davis clan: it’s official… Sisters.

Tomorrow we leave, but it is not the end.
It feels like the beginning of a new adventure.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 158 :: keeping secrets

Relief.

Here’s the first of many photos that I’m sure I will share about our surprise, pop up wedding day. Or, as Justin likes to say, hijacking one night of the family reunion.

What you don’t see in this photo is the months of planning, dodging questions, vague answers, secret Pinterest boards, private shopping trips, dress fittings, internet searches, and coming up with plan A, B, C, D and E, just in case. (And, just for fun, a trip to the emergency room.)

It’s late here in Estes Park. So this blog will be short and I will save all the stories for later. But the lesson in kindness is this – if you want to keep a secret you’ve got to roll with the current. Go with the flow.

Where it takes you will be amazing. I promise!
And there will be more tomorrow.

Keeping Secrets.

Tonight we were married. It was a surprise, at Justin’s family reunion in Estes Park. We’ve been planning for a while now and tonight it happened.

Pictures will be shared tomorrow.

For now, we are happy and soaking in the kindness of a family that engulfed us in love while we surprised them with nuptials.

Secrets are hard.
But…Love is kind.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 155 :: kind moments

Reunion.

I’m here in the mountains of Colorado, with Justin’s family. And what they always teach me, whenever they gather, is that just being together is an act of kindness.

They have gathered for 50 years. As a family, starting as brothers and sisters and then aunts and uncles, with cousins and cousins and then grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


They have waterskied and hiked and rode horses and rafted and golfed and played cards together. Along the adventure, they have added four generations over fifty years. I feel honored to be included in their latest adventure.

It is kindred and it is kind.

But it is so much more than that. To them, it may seem normal. Even routine, this reunion. But it is an incredible act of kindness. To gather, tell stories, relive adventures and create new ones with new generations and new additions.

These are not just moments, they are memories. Passed on and down and around the family tree, weaving its way around the campfire and into the hearts of the next generation.

By just being together.
How kind.

Horses.

Today we rode horses. And, I have to say, an animal that lets you ride on its back up a mountain (while swatting flies) is what I would call kind.

Signs on the road.

We landed in Colorado. But before that… I started off the day with a heart on my breakfast taco.


And if that isn’t a good sign… what is?

But before that…the girls ran into Diana Taurasi in the airport, on our way to breakfast. They got her autograph. And if that isn’t a good sign…

After that…Justin ran into Kevin Smith at the airport. You know, Silent Bob.

Both were so kind in stopping for their autograph and photo. I couldn’t help but think about how much it means to a person, the kindness it takes, to see someone you look up to, and then have them return the favor.

There are so many instances in life where if we could just be KIND, to each other, to ourselves, to our loved ones and to perfectly good strangers… well….

Kindness Travels.
From one smile, nod, autograph and photo to another.

Ah, Solstice.  

It feels like it took you forever to get here. And now… here you are. Long night, lots of light, beautiful skies, and stars about to burst.

Part of me wishes every night were this kind.
Part of me knows the contrast is what we need. The dark meets the light.

But the other part of me says – HELLO SUMMER!
