JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 21 :: tears of joy

21 Jan
{nail biter}

We woke up in the middle of the night to no power. No electricity, no lights, nothing but darkness.

There was a huge windstorm that blew all over town and blew down trees and then blew out all the power in our neighborhood. I took the dogs out in the darkness. I drove to Starbucks just to get my hands on hot water (for my prescribed morning tea).

On my way home I saw a dog walking down the street and noticed he was hopping along — on three legs. He was missing a leg but it didn’t stop him from hopping along after his owners. He looked as happy as could be. As if he had no clue that dogs usually come with four legs.

It may have been a sign.

The power came back on at  12:00 PM.  The Patriot’s game started at 12:05 PM.  Just. In. Time. But, the tension didn’t stop there.

The Patriots played the first three quarters like a dog with three legs. Hopping along but not quite hitting their stride. It wasn’t until the final two minutes OF THE ENTIRE GAME that we Patriot’s fans could breathe again. The Patriots came from behind for the AFC Championship win but a few of us almost had a heart attack in the process.

Justin, of course, was as cool of cucumber. But when the game was over, I cried. Tears of joy – and possibly some pent up, sitting on the edge of my seat pangs of panic and frustration.

Easy to say on this side of it all – winning in the final minutes. And I think that may be where tears of joy come from… the hope that everything will turn out the way you want.

Oh, Joy – on to the Superbowl!

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie
