Joy has been kicking my butt this month. Forcing me to look life in the eyes. First, we said our goodbyes to Aunt Nancy, and today we said our final goodbye to our dear #1 Pup.
Saying goodbye is not joyful.
But it does make me reflect on the good times. And we had so many GOOD TIMES with our Number One Pup. His antics (running away, only to get stuck at the end of a pier with nowhere to go on an island), the cherished moments (road trips crisscrossing the country a few times), the funny stories (trying to lick me when Justin kissed me), his crazy acts of courage (chasing a skunk only to find out it was not a kitty).
Ah… there are so many Pup stories. And today was the grand finale of this chapter in our lives. It included a picnic with a pint of ice cream just for Pup on the beach and many, many treats along the way. There was music. There was his tennis ball. And there was our adorable 17-year-old Pup.

He has been more than a Pup to us. He has been the glue of our little traveling unit. He has been alpha dog and best buddy and in many ways our first baby, He was the best snuggle in town, and the first one to bark if there was a mail carrier within fifty feet (you know, those intimidating mail carriers!).
Pup has been so much more than a dog. He has been mascot, nurse, big brother and babysitter. He has licked away our wounded tears through my surgical journeys. He was the biggest tattletale too – always running to me to report on Brady’s mischief (eating vegetables off the counter, redecorating the kitchen with tea towels, chewing up toys).
It’s hard to say goodbye to such a good dog. But he has brought us enough joy and so many stories to last for another lifetime to come.
It’s not ironic that joy is the highest vibration in the world and Pup had a #1 on his chest. Pup was the carrier of the message of joy. Whenever he went and however he wagged his tail. Even in his high fives.
There just aren’t enough words to say how much joy this little animal being shared with the world. But I do know this — we were the lucky ones to receive it.
We love you Pup.
Always, and forever.
More tomorrow…
Lovemore,
Jamie
