JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 58 trust the adventure

I’m learning that things in life are so much easier when I trust the adventure… instead of trying to control the outcome. Maybe that’s part of what trust is teaching me this year, to relax.

It should be easy, right? And most of the time it is. But the discipline of trust is asking me to sharpen my relaxation skills and hone the power of patience and trust. Maybe those are two sides of the same coin = patience and trust.   

Even when I thought I was pretty good at patience… there is always another level to master. 

It’s like yoga, really. You first learn a few poses and think you are good at it. Then you find out there are ways to enhance your pose and take it the next level or hold it longer or stretch further – so you do. But then a new teacher shows you more moves, more poses, more balances and more… more… more…

I have a sneaking suspicion that Trust is taking me down that road and it is my job to relax and enjoy the adventure.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 57 trust is breathing

{trust}  

Trust is teaching me so many simple lessons, already, this year. Including watching the snow fall outside my window. It’s beautiful. And it does it’s job, falling to the ground powered by the wind and piling up on our back porch.

It’s so beautiful and one of the things I actually appreciate about being back on the east coast, the sounds of winter. Never thought I would say that.

It also makes me realize how much we need to trust the simple things that repeat over and over, like our breathing. In and out. It’s a simple act, one I hardly give notice to, but vital. I don’t think about it. I just do it. That seems to be what trust wants me to know… stop thinking, just do it.  

Breathe. Trust. Just do it.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 56 :: trust is changing course

We spent hours last night ordering glasses online. All sorts of eyeglasses. Sunglasses, readers, sunglasses that are readers…

My FSA money ends this week and the Lasik surgery I planned with my FSA money through some loophole wouldn’t work with my eye doctor. And it was too late to change it. 

So… being under the gun and almost out of time, we now have a lifetime supply of readers and sunglasses and sunglasses that are readers and contacts too. In the end, it all turned out well (including a nice pair of Ray Bans) but I wasn’t so happy about it a week ago.

Sometimes we have change course and trust the outcome. 

She says as she puts on a pair of glasses to see more clearly.

The wind is blowing outside our window. It’s loud. It’s strong. It’s shaking the door like Mother Nature wants to come in. It has broken down phone lines and power lines across the state and even crushed cars and houses today. 

But we sit here safe inside… trusting that all is well. This has me thinking about Mother Nature and how much trust we need to place in her hands. 

It makes me wonder if we have returned the favor. I will be contemplating this as my head hits the pillow tonight and the wind raps at my window.

Tonight is Oscar night and I think Lady Gaga may have just summed up what it means to trust. “If you have a dream, fight for it,” Lady Gaga said from the stage.

Trust is a mind game, isn’t it? And the best way to play is to believe in yourself.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 53 :: trust, ease and grace

I didn’t sleep at all last night. Justin was up with a cold and neither one of us were able to sleep. So today I slept the afternoon away and even though I felt a large amount of guilt for not using that time to be productive or accomplish something important… it felt so good to sleep.

Sleep is amazing. And today, I’m just going to trust that sleep is what I need, with ease and grace and more sleep we can do amazing things.

So sleep it is! Sleep sweet sleep.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 52 :: trust and allow

{trust}  

The theme that keeps coming up this year is to Trust and Allow.

But after tonight and our viewing of A Star Is Born, I do not think my husband will trust my movie picks. Rightfully so…  I was bored out of my mind too watching this movie.

I know it’s getting accolades and awards, and I absolutely love all the actors who star in it, but the story? It just didn’t do it for me. 

The song, on the other hand, I cannot get out of my head.

I’m not sure there is a lesson in this one, but there is a tad bit of disappointment. We will see what the Oscars say on Sunday. Until then, we have a few more movies to cram in before the big night.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 51 :: trust is an adventure

Tonight, I am reminded of our trip down the Grand Canyon.

We watched a documentary on the canyon produced by National Geographic. It was mesmerizing and brought me right back to standing on the edge of that magical place, the river, the rocks, the spiders, the massive crevice, the butterflies, the ancient paths, that bright blue water, and the silence. You can read about it here.

It was an adventure of a lifetime. And tonight, the documentary also reminded me of the TRUST you must pack on any adventure.

Trust is an adventure, maybe life’s biggest one.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 50 trust is cooking on faith

I’m a much better home chef these days. And, tonight, I surprised myself. We are trying yet another meal plan (Purple Carrot!) and the recipe tonight called for an avocado. Which is provided. But it was green. Like… really green.

I didn’t have another avocado to choose from, or in our pantry, nor did I want to go to the store (that’s the whole point of the meal-in-a-box!). So I winged it. I ran on faith. I used that ripe avocado anyway.

Maybe this isn’t all that bold or audacious for you – but for me? Yes. This is groundbreaking. I feel most in my comfort zone when following the recipe. I don’t veer off the page usually. and when I do it is a disaster waiting to happen or blow up in the oven.

The good news is the recipe still tasted GREAT! I was impressed and amazed and a little purple with pride.

Maybe all my cooking needs is a little more trust… and avocados.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 49 :: trust is an afternoon break

It’s Day 49 today and I decided to take a break. It consisted of a smoothie and a quick drive in the sunshine around 3pm. It was glorious and full of kale and cocoa in the best way possible.  

Sometimes you just need an afternoon break and a little kale.
