I’m watching my husband build me a gift of art. It’s a fake fireplace and I couldn’t be more excited. He is being precise, measuring and monitoring all the pieces and parts before he builds and screws, hammers and glues.
It may be a fake fireplace but the gift is very, very real. When I first saw the inspiration for it on TV he balked. Mostly because we had been looking at other fake fireplaces to order online – you know, the ones that actually throw heat. But I had an inspiration and changed my mind. He didn’t agree with me on it at first, but the next day when I came home he had drawn up plans, jumped in the car before I could get out and we drove to Lowes.
Now he is making it.
It makes me think about how much care goes into trust. If only we would measure twice and cut once. Trust is a work of art.
