Today has reminded me of the power of beauty and hope. As we drove up the highway to New Hampshire I watched the trees in bloom, covering the highway almost reaching over to shake the hand of the tree across the street. I was in awe of the beauty.
Later this evening we ate dinner at a hidden gem, Bantam Grill, tucked in a strip mall in Peterborough. It was on a recommendation or we never would have found it. Apparently, that’s not a problem for the restaurant because it was packed. We didn’t have a reservation and had to wait for a seat at the bar.
After we were finally tucked into our stations at the bar and ordered our food we began talking to the family next to us. They were celebrating their daughter’s college graduation. I turned to her and asked, “What do you want to do?”
She answered, “Work.”
I got it immediately. I was swept back to my 21-year-old self who had only known the success of school teetering on the brink of adulthood and feeling lost in a sea of options. I smiled at her and said, “if you could do anything what would you do?”
She answered, “I would love to be a counselor.”
I told her the three secret words that were taught to me at that age. “Network. Network. Network.” Then Justin reminded me that we have a friend who is a counselor, so I followed up on my networking advice and gave her my email address.
She left me feeling hopeful: I hope that she takes me up on the offer, I hope she emails me, and I hope she networks. And that is the beautiful circle of trust.

There is hope in beauty, and there is beauty in hope.
Trust me!
More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
