Tonight we watched the movie, “The Art of Racing In The Rain.” I cried through the entire movie. It’s a movie for humans and especially for humans who love dogs. It’s especially emotionally draining for anyone who recently lost their dog, but then again, there really is no moratorium on the heartbreak of losing your best friend.
I cried mostly because of Pup. He has been gone for a little over a year now but he is still so present in our hearts and memories. I think that’s the thing about dogs, they are forever connected to the heartstrings of the family tree.
One of the lines that stuck with me most from the movie was: “The best drivers don’t dwell on the future or the past. The best drivers focus only on the present.”

That is what our pets do for us, refocus us on the present moment. The wagging of the tail, the panting of the tongue, the leaping with joy, the barking and the snoring with great verve. They are the best teachers of the present moment.
Trust me!
More tomorrow.
