JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 230 :: love and trust

{trust}

Today I watched the 2018 documentary, Won’t You Be My Neighbor? It’s a retrospective of Mr. Fred Rodgers, or what I knew as a little kid to be Mister Rodgers Neighborhood.

It’s amazing how much of his message from that show are still with me, and I imagine so many others from his 30 years on television. But it was more than insightful for me to revisit it today through the eyes of an adult. In fact, it made me cry. Not just a few nostalgic tears, but rivers of tears dripping down my face.

It feels to me that our world needs another Mister Rodgers. Maybe an updated version to some degree because certainly, the world has changed. As I watched the documentary today I couldn’t help but wish that the void he left was filled, on television and now, social media. I remember being glued to the television watching puppets and actors and Mister Rodgers himself deliver the message of the day. Now, looking back I realize I had no idea how honest he was being, how insightful his teachings were and how safe he was making me feel in this very big world.

One of his quotes strikes a chord of trust with me today:

Love and trust, in the space between what’s said and what’s heard in our life, can make all the difference in this world.”

Everything comes back to those two words: love and trust.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.
