JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 302 :: new experiences

Vacation Day One. I am back in Naples where this blog began so many years ago. Starting this blog was such a new experience back then trying so many new things to take care of my head, heart, body and soul. So it’s not ironic that I am back in Naples finding new adventures.

Today’s adventure was a dance class. Say what? You have to remember that I have never taken dance in my entire life, except for one unfortunate ballet class when I was eleven years old and six feet tall with size ten feet. It didn’t end well so I never went back. Dancing for me has always been at a bar, party or wedding. Usually with a glass of wine in my hand.

Today’s dance class was not ballet and there was no alcohol. It was more divine feminine sensual (there was a pole) and a group of amazing trusting women. I attended as a guest because my dear sister-friend Amy spoke about her new book A Little Bit of Goddess. Then we danced in a free form way being led by one of the dance teachers.

This may sound easy for most people. For me, it was stumbling my way through a new adventure. I grew up playing sports, where I got points, made baskets, scored goals, or worked toward hitting a ball or running really fast. There was no free flow, no inner goddess, just absolute strength, endurance, and accuracy.

But today I danced. I didn’t touch the pole, I would know what to do with it, but I did dance to my inner goddess, inner child and inner warrior. At one point in the dance Amy glided over my way and whispered, “You get 100 points!”

Then we laughed. She knows my love language is sports, not rhythmic movement. Despite my reservations about what to do with my body or not having a goal to shoot for, I must say I am pretty proud of my ability to trust a new adventure.

After all, to try something new you have to trust yourself.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.
