BLOG – GIFT DAY 129 :: 21-day spring clean: talk to strangers

9 May

Congratulations!

You’ve made it through the Spring Clean.
The Spring Clean wasn’t a cleanse or an excuse to scrub the floors. It was more of a daily nod to what’s important.
Take today, for instance.
I made a new friend because he wasn’t afraid of walking up to me and introducing himself.
He just waltzed right into my acupuncture appointment room and looked me straight in the eye. He didn’t even have an appointment!

Meet Teddy.
Over 160 pounds of unfaltering love.

And the reason behind our tip of the day — the finale of sorts, of the Spring Clean.
Spring Clean Tip #21: Talk To Strangers
Seeing big, hairy Teddy saunter unannounced into the acupuncture room today made me smile, and remember something very important. You can’t make new friends without going to new places.Meaning, sometimes you have to go outside of your comfort zone and walk right up to someone you don’t know, outstretch your paw and give a friendly smile.
Of course it doesn’t hurt to get all comfy and stretch out on the ground too. Maybe roll on your back, expose your belly, and pant a little bit — your choice.Regardless, Teddy reminded me of a very valuable lesson today. Some strangers are just friends you haven’t made yet.
Somebody’s got to outstretch the first paw.

I’m glad you have outstretched yours to me.

More tomorrow,

Lovemore (fearless),
Jamie
{Introduce yourself to a good stranger… I dare you.}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 128 :: 21-day spring clean: try, try on

8 May

It’s Day #20 of our Spring Clean.

As we ready for the warm summer months, and let go of the winter, I am struck by the wisdom of today’s tip.

It comes from a young lady, not even a decade old. This is the post from her mother on Facebook:

“Lily is learning about fables at school. She had to write her own fable and put the moral at the end. She was clearly trying to come up with “If at first you don’t succeed…” and her moral was,

“If you fail, try, try on.”

I love it. That may be my new favorite saying.”

Love you dear Lily. And, yes, it may be my new favorite saying too.

It is most certainly our Spring Clean Tip #20: Try, Try, On.

More tomorrow,
Lovemore (fearless),
Jamie

{You can do it.}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 127 :: 21-day spring clean: add flowers

7 May

I once heard some wise advice…
The wisdom was all about flowers.

I was reminded of this as I walked home from the train today. Everything in the neighborhood is beginning to pop, unfold and bloom!

Tip Day #19: Add Flowers.

These wise words were from Tom Peters as he discussed marketing and business. His advice was to always make things pretty, bright, inviting — and if nothing else worked, add flowers

So simple.
So beautiful.
So classic.

Where can you add flowers?

More tomorrow,
Lovemore (fearless),
Jamie

P.S. Editorial update from yesterday’s blog: Regina Brett is not 90 years old (although she has the wisdom of a 90-year old sage). Check out her amazing wisdom here.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 125 :: 21-day spring clean: smell the roses

5 May

Day #17 of our Spring Clean.
And boy, did it feel like spring today!
I often say my dogs go for “smells” instead of “walks” outside. Pup especially stops every three centimeters to sniff the ground.

Today, Brady joined us for a long two hour walk in the sunshine. He’s still learning how to walk gently on a leash — which is why we love the Gentle Leader that straps around his nose and helps him stay in step — gently.

Which brings us to Spring Clean Tip #17: Stop and Smell The Roses

Having Brady along for the walk reminded me of something very important. – as he tugged and pulled to attempt to outwit the Gentle Leader and smell the dirt, ground, flowers, and EVERYTHING else we passed…

He reminded me to not only smell the roses, but to STOP and smell the roses.

To pause.
To take it in.
Smell it up.
Sniff.

Take a deep breath.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 124 :: 21-day spring clean: count your good fortune

4 May

It’s girl’s weekend over here.

We are sitting around the table, enjoying our spread of Thai food and telling lots of good old stories.

We had a beautiful day on the beach and some fun time with the newest girl of girl’s weekend, Baby Sasha!

Having my best girls around reminds me of my true good fortune. The history we have together, the fun memories we make whenever we gather in the same place, and the love and support we share through life’s hills and valleys.

This is my great fortune in life — the people I love and the friendships we share. Which brings me to our tip of the day.

Spring Clean Tip #16: Count Your Good Fortune

What is your good fortune of life?
As you ponder this, I share some fortune from our cookies tonight.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 123 :: 21-day spring clean: say a little prayer

3 May

Today, I spotted a sign on Boylston Street.
It was a gift, really.

The sign said: “Write your prayers on a piece of fabric, and then please tie your prayers to the fence.”

So I did . . . and that reminded me about our 21-Day Spring Clean.

Spring Clean Tip #16: Say a Prayer

…It’s simple, it’s easy, it’s free.No matter what you believe, worship, love, respect . . . a prayer is easy.
And powerful.

Who needs a prayer?

BLOG – GIFT DAY 122 :: 21-day spring clean: let go

2 May

Day 15 over here.
Short. Sweet. To the point today.

Spring Clean Tip #15: Let GO!

As in, what can you remove? What can you throw out, give up, just stop doing? If you were to wake up tomorrow and announce to yourself:

I am never going to do ______________  again.

What would it be?

More tomorrow.

Lovemore (fearless),

Jamie

{What are you ready to stop doing?}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 119 :: 21-day spring clean: just fail already!

29 Apr

You just screwed up. Now what?

Time to count your blessings.

Failure. Blessings.
One in the same really, aren’t they?

Each failure I have experienced has brought me more lessons, learnings, insight. And it always leads to improvement.

“To avoid failure is to limit accomplishment.” – Will Rogers

Like the jobs I have lost (pink slip anyone?).
The relationships that have fizzled and the great, big accomplishments that have fallen short.Or even the pizza crust I totally screwed up a few days ago.

The blessing is in the learning. Now I know what I will do next time, whether it’s a business or a pizza crust recipe.Which brings me to our Spring Clean tip of the day…

Day 12 Spring Clean:  Just Fail Already!

I have personally spent way too much time in my life trying to be perfect, or the best, or even just better than the thing right next to me.

It comes from a fear of failure.
Specifically, a fear of the unknown and a strong will to be in control.

Which works out great when everything goes your way, when hard work is all that you need to succeed. But it leaves you sitting flat on your face and pretty empty when forces beyond your control take over.

Which is precisely when embracing failure is well, fabulous!

“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.” – Oprah Winfrey

So, fail away! Bring on the bust! Honor the totally unsuspected and groundbreaking whoop-sie-do!

Count your blessings and your failures.
And let the lesson in.

More tomorrow.

Jamie

BLOG – GIFT DAY 118 :: 21-day spring clean: scatter joy

28 Apr

Spring Clean Day 11

I LOVE this quote: “Scatter joy!” from R.W.E. (Ralph Waldo Emerson).

It’s full of energy, and love, and well… joy!

And, that’s why it is our…

Day 11 Spring Clean Tip:  Scatter Joy

Joy doesn’t have to be huge to be fully present.
It can be small, tiny, barely there. But, oh is it there.

Like the gluten free oatmeal I have almost perfected. Add a little breakfast by the beach and well, that’s joy to me.

It’s a scene that I froze in my mind this morning — the blue sky, the bright sun, the breakfast I made from scratch. (Yes, I did make it from scratch, she boasts).

Hey, if I can cook, anyone can — and learning new things, well, that brings me joy too.

But the best joy is the shared kind… the kind that gets scattered around.

We’re coming up on a new week, so I have a question…
What brings you joy? How can you scatter it?

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 117 :: 21-day spring clean: play

27 Apr

Spring Clean Day 10

Something new is in the air. I spotted three children playing on the beach today. They were jumping and running from waves as the water crashed onto the beach.

The giggles could be heard all up and down the sandy beach.

And it reminded me of something so very important.
To lighten up!
To play!
To laugh and giggle.

Which brings me back to our Spring Clean, and a commitment to lighten up over these 21-days, inside and out, for the head, heart, body and soul.

Spring Clean Tip #10: Play a Little

Next weekend some of my best girls are coming to town to spend a few days at the beach with me. I have been looking forward to it all winter.

I can’t wait to see my girls!
I can’t wait for a little bit warmer weather
And . . . I can’t wait to play.

How can you play a little more?

More tomorrow.
