GIFT DAY 104: 30-day gratitude challenge: day 28

14 Apr

We are pulling into the home stretch, Day 28 over here of the 30-Day Gratitude Challenge.

What are you grateful for today?

Today, I am grateful for:

1) Whole Foods

2) My taxes are done, whew!

3) Recipes I can attempt to make, that actually taste good . . . seriously.

Today I loaded up on whole foods from Whole Foods. In the middle of searching for my gluten-free ingredients and goat butter, I spotted this card:
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined.”
I love it when I see text whether it’s on the side of a truck or sticking up from the greeting card aisle and it perfectly matches my moment. Like a sign from above or beyond with impeccable timing.

Then I went home I attempted my hand at a sweet potato stew.

A small step for anyone else on a Sunday afternoon, a giant leap for me.
This is so momentous I took photos of the whole process:

Voila! The final result? Yummy.
Want the recipe? It’s from this cookbook: Eating the Alkaline Way: Recipes for a Well-Balanced Honestly Healthy Lifestyle

What are you grateful for this weekend?

More tomorrow.

GIFT DAY 100: 30-day gratitude challenge: day 24: the gift of giving

10 Apr

Day 24 over here of the 30-Day Gratitude Challenge.

What are you grateful for today?

Today I am grateful for:

1) My coaching group, the You Can Do Anything Divas!
2) Green smoothies3) An organic pink roseI didn’t know roses could be organic.
But my acupuncturist gave me a pink, organic rose today.

It was a gift.

She was sent a dozen organic pink roses, and instead of placing them in a vase to sit pretty in the sun she handed them out. She shared. She passed it on.

How brilliant. Beautiful. Bountiful.

Today is the 100th day of the year and of my promise to explore abundance. And with that promise comes my pledge to give away a gift of the day.

I find it inspiring and ironic that on the 100th day I was presented with a pretty pink rose.

I also take it as a symbolic kick in my own pants!

I’ve been so obsessed with doctor’s appointments and what to eat, what NOT to eat, and where to pee on a pH stick (don’t ask) that I have let my gift giving slide.

It’s not that I haven’t been gifting…it’s more like I’ve been cheating my gift giving graciousness.

Like today, I thought to myself, “Paying for acupuncture is kind of like a gift, right?”

Yeahhhhhhh….. so clearly there’s work to do. Here’s to the next 100 days. May they be full of gifts and good will.

And sharing.

More tomorrow.

GIFT DAY 096: 30-day gratitude challenge: day 20

6 Apr

Day 20 over here  (and the weekend, whooo hoooo!). . . of the 30-Day Gratitude Challenge.

What are you grateful for today?

I’ve been studying giving and gratitude and abundance this year. It’s part of my promise.

Already I’ve seen much change in my life — like cosmic or karmic change, your choice. The biggest aha reminder has been the importance of good health.

Health is wealth, as my friend Andrea Beaman wrote about in her book by the same name.

Here’s the funny, ironic, might-as-well-be-plastered-on-my-back-like-a-“kick-me”-sign for the world to see:  I already knew that. Health is wealth.

My recent medical journey is sending me straight back to the drawing board of abundance, or should I say, the kitchen table. Maybe it’s even more accurate to say the stove top.

You know what they say… the more you avoid something the more it keeps showing up in your life. And always bigger and more in your face each time it has to return.

Thus, my love affair with food and my reliance on others to cook it for me has reared its ugly head. Again.

(Does anyone else find this hysterically ironic?)

If you’ve been with me for a while now, you know that I have tried everything on the raw, vegan, whole, clean, sugar-free, coffee-free, green wagon. Then I got off that ride.

Now I am back on.

Is someone or something trying to teach me a lesson?  Maybe. Regardless, I just want to scream: OKAY, I GET IT ALREADY!!!

The fact is, Andrea’s right: Health Is Wealth.

I’ll be over here pondering the irony of the universe while I wait for my test results to turn up. I will also be relying on what I know is one of the greatest powers of the universe: GRATITUDE.

So today I am grateful for:
1) The weekend and time to read on the couch
2) Plans with friends to play Canasta (and I never remember how to play Canasta)
3) Health is wealth
What are you grateful for?
Now, could somebody pass the almonds? No… how about a green smoothie?
More tomorrow.
Lovemore (fearless),

I just finished reading the NY TImes article Is Giving the Secret to Getting Ahead?

The article states: “The greatest untapped source of motivation.. is a sense of service to others; focusing on the contribution of our work to other peoples’ lives has the potential to make us more productive than thinking about helping ourselves.
Skeptical? You might prefer the humorous video instead.

GIFT DAY 095: 30-day gratitude challenge: day 19

5 Apr

Day 19 over here . . . of the 30-Day Gratitude Challenge.

What are you grateful for today?

I am grateful for:

1) 60 degree sunshine
2) It’s F*ing FRIDAY!
3) Acupuncture

Today was acupuncture day over here. And, I have to say, these might be the only needles I love.

As I waited for my appointment I noticed this cherub sculpture and it made me pause and remember something.

angel, thepromisedaily.com, jamie eslinger

Something profoundly important.

We have helpers all around us. Call them guides or angels or sometimes even strangers. My favorite thing to call them is perfect for F*ing Friday… FRIENDS.

They are here. And for that, I am grateful.

As one week ends and a weekend begins, I wonder…
What are you grateful for?

More tomorrow.

GIFT DAY 092 a funny thing happened on the way to the doctor’s office {30-day gratitude challenge: day 16}

2 Apr

Day 16 of the 30-Day Gratitude Challenge over here.

Today I am grateful for:

1) Finally seeing a doctor
2) Finally seeing a doctor
3) Finally seeing a doctor

I have spent the last month trying to get a doctor’s appointment.

You see, I have swelling in my throat. At first I thought I had a cold. But when the swelling didn’t go away, I freaked out. Big time.

My doctor’s office offered me an appointment in June.

Then I called back to demand an appointment SOONER and they put me on hold.

On hold.

Finally the switchboard clicked back over, and told me they would call me back after 4:45pm to schedule an appointment.

You can guess how that ended. They never called back. On a Friday no less.

In lieu of medical care I started acupuncture. My acupuncturist tipped me off to a local doctor and voila! I got an appointment for today.

This morning, when I entered the totally beautiful and zen doctor’s office for my 10:30am appointment I was immediately crushed. They didn’t have me on the books. No appointment under my name.

I thought about laughing, or crying, or maybe screaming from the top of my swollen throat.

Instead, I thought of a phrase from The Art of Possibility: Transforming Professional and Personal Life – whenever anything goes out of control, haywire or just plain down the dumps, it’s best to look at it with open eyes and just say, “How fascinating.”

So I remained calm. And the woman behind the desk took pity and slipped me in for the 1pm time slot today.

How fascinating.

Finally. The doctor will see you …now. And she did.

Diagnosis: I have a goiter.

It’s sound disgusting, and looks like a golf ball got lodged in my throat instead of in a sand trap on the back nine. My thyroid is swollen up like a balloon.

So I have tons of tests to take this week, but I am so thankful that I finally have a new doctor looking after me.

Turns out she’s exactly what I need: an expert in women’s health, fertility and, GULP, goiters. {GRATEFUL!}

My first item of business, an alkaline diet. As my doctor explained to me what an alkaline diet consists of – whole foods, green juices, veggies galore – I had to hold back a chuckle.

Been there, done that.
Like The Promise 365, year one.

Back to the days of green smoothies, veggies, no sugar, no coffee and no animal meat for me.

It’s like déjà vu over here.
But this will no doubt be a very new journey.

How fascinating.

More tomorrow.

GIFT DAY 090: 30-day gratitude challenge: day 14, HOP to it!

31 Mar

Day 14 of the 30-Day Gratitude Challenge over here.

What finds you in AWE today?

  • Is it little girls in pink and green dresses?
  • Little boys hunting for eggs?
  • A warm spring morning?

Today I was awestruck by the scene I awoke to on the beach.

easter morning, the promise daily, jamie eslinger

The dogs woke me up early begging – no whining – to go outside. I rolled over and looked at the time on my iPhone. 6:34AM.

“You’ve GOT to be kidding me.” I groaned.

The dogs kept whining and pacing around the bed. Finally, Pup jumped up on top of me as if to say, “Listen lady, we mean biz.”

I grimaced. I groaned. Then acquiesced.

And I’m so glad I did. I would have missed the sunrise. I would have missed this beautiful picture. I would have rolled over and missed the light.

So, today, I am grateful for:

1) An enlightening sunrise
2) Staying in my PJ’s and reading in bed until 3pm
3) Two pups who never let me sleep in

What are your grateful for?
What floats your boat? Gives you faith? Fans the wind beneath your wings? Lightens your load? Rocks your world? Sounds the alarm, wraps you in joy, sends you hopping?

What puts the AWE in your awesome?
