JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 62 :: rock my heart

3 Mar

Day 62. Rock my heart.

My new favorite heart rock …from the hands of an 8-year-old. The first prototype of her line of rocks (for sale!).

It only cost me a dollar… but the moment (to my heart) was priceless.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

P.S. Yoga done!

{what rocks your heart?}

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 50 :: crazy good

20 Feb

Day 50. Crazy Kids.

This was sitting on our dinner table tonight:

Thanks to Table Topics at The Filling Station we were presented with this question:

“What was the craziest thing you ever did when you were a kid?”

Ah, good question. My mind raced.

Sticking my finger in an open light socket (that was a shocking one)….Picking all of my mother’s newly planted flowers because we thought they were weeds (I still blame my older sister)…

Then Justin reminded me…Falling into the Snake River because my long legs missed the jump and hit the water instead. (Thank you, Justin, for saving me).

It’s a miracle we make it to adulthood, isn’t it? Maybe that’s what makes life so crazy good.

Now, I must finish digesting the World Largest Hamburger before doing my yoga. Until then…

…What’s the craziest thing you ever did when you were a kid?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 36 :: behold

5 Feb

Day 36. Behold.

My new favorite word. Behold.

Behold!  It’s been going through my mind for days now. Be. Hold. Be. Hold. Be. Hold.

As in… Be… breathe…be here now.
And hold…as in…receive…welcome….enjoy.

It’s as beautiful as breathing.
Breathe In.
Breathe Out.

It’s something we do automatically. Everyday. All the time. In our SLEEP! That’s pretty amazing if you stop and think about it. Behold it.

Be. Hold.
Tonight as I did my yoga and wrung out the rest of the week, let go of the hard, stressful, unpleasant, unuseful, unnecessary, I thought of the word Behold again.

It’s like the word is whispering to me. Be in this moment. Welcome the next. Rinse. Repeat. Do it again. Be. Hold.

So my dears…Happy Friday….what are you beholding?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 34 :: showing up

3 Feb

Day 34. Little bits.

Songza, no worka. All day. No Songza. So I Googled it… it’s now part of Google Play Music. Oh yeah….Right.

In case you need this:

That was my day. Hit and misza.
So, now I’m yogza outza. Tonight’s routine? Short. Sweet. Barely there. But at least I showed up. And that’s okay. I know it’s in the showing up that makes magic appear.

Bring on tomorrow!

(Plus, I can delete one more app from my phone… more space for something else amazing to appear.)

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 16 :: yoga and football

16 Jan

Day 16. Milestone moments.

Yesterday I spoke about my “aha moment” realizing I thought yoga was a sport. And today I watched one play out before me. What a game.

I missed the Pats game while on a plane (which was fine with me, I was a bit too nervous to watch live and I was off to see my bestie!!!) but we caught the Green Bay game once I touched down — and wow. That was worth staying up for. Amazing what a few seconds can do. Incredible what the toss of a coin can lead to…

…and I have to admit, it’s still hard for me to watch grown men almost cry after a loss. Even when it’s just a game. Maybe it stirs something inside of all of us – that feeling of almost victory, of so close you can taste it, of wanting it so bad.

And so, tonight’s yoga was a short one after all those games but a milestone moment for me. Team of one. I led myself through my own yoga routine. First. Time. Ever.

Seems small in some ways. Galactic in others. Because sometimes it’s more difficult to lead yourself than it is to follow someone else.

Leading, I try.
Learning, I am.
Go team.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 14 :: just move forward

14 Jan

Day 14. Falling.

Tonight while doing yoga I fell. A couple times. It was mostly while hopping on one foot trying to holding a pose on said foot with the other foot stretched into the air. It’s not really human. And there’s a very long sanskrit word (Utthita Hasta Padangustasana) that I cannot say out loud.

Which is very fitting since I cannot hold the pose either.
….Yet.

I’m comforted in the fact that the instructor in the video that I was following fell out of the pose too. Then she said these words:

“Do no be disappointed ever – just move forward.”
-ELENA BROWER

It occurs to me that this is sage advice. Not just for yoga. But for everything. For work. For family. For friends. For life.

Yoga. Day 14. Fell down. But I’m good.
And now we move forward.

More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 7 :: all in the eyes

7 Jan

Day 7. Seeing clearly.

Another night for Yogaglo. After a core workout I found another yoga workout — for the eyes. Yes, the eyes. Did you know that you can do yoga for your eyes???

I did not.
But now I know.

And my eyes, honestly, will thank me after looking at a computer screen ALL. DAY. LONG.
And this has me thinking… there just might be a “yoga” for everything. In fact, I bet there is a yoga for everything. (I have a sense that I’m about to find out).

Aha. Maybe I am starting to see clearly.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YOGA DAY 5 :: the mat

5 Jan

Day 5. Hello Mat. We meet again.

I’m getting to know my yoga mat intimately. My thick, comfy, turquoise mat.

And tonight while I was trudging through Day 5 of this Yoga Promise and my longest yoga series yet I thought: What the hell was I thinking? and then… This is going to be a long year. and then… I’m okay. I can do this.

And so it goes. The flood of thoughts that flow through the moments on the mat. I’m sure that I’m going to get use to this. I know every day will get easier with this stretch goal. But in the moment it is sometimes hard to remember.

The good news? My jeans already fit slightly better.
Namaste to that moment.
Thank you, yoga mat.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YOGA DAY 3 :: yoga marathon & sprints

3 Jan

Day 3. I’m sore.

I should have expected this. Sore legs. Sore calves. And I’ve barely even started this year of yoga (366 days for those who are counting).

What have I learned so far? Making a promise to go from Couch Potato to Yogi is a marathon not a sprint. So what’s important to highlight right now? Taking it slow.

And so it was perfect timing that today a friend sent this article my way:

Reading the article reassured me that I already have everything I need to start this journey:

  • Mat. Check!
  • Heater. Check!
  • Stretchy Yoga Pants That I Will Probably Never Get Out Of. Check!

I have this terrible habit of expecting to jump back in exactly where I left off. I’ve done it with golf (why can’t I remember how to putt?). I’ve done it with running (why can’t I finish a 5k in under 30 minutes?). I’ve done it with math, cooking, card games, naming all 50 state capitals….you get the point.

And now I’m doing it with yoga. Why am I so sore after a few (not very strenuous) yoga moves? And so it goes.

I know muscle memory will return quickly and I’m trying to remember that patience is the most important part of that point.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
