JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 69 :: a plank night

10 Mar

Day 69. Ouchie.

Ten minutes of Plank tonight. Not all ten minutes in a row, there were child poses and downward dog breaks. It sounds easy, right?

Yeah… not so easy say my wrists and arms.

But I am consoled by the fact that our muscles become stronger by being ripped, literally, torn. And I’m sure I will feel it in the morn.

I also know that pain is fleeting. Only felt in the moment.
And that reminds me….to make sure the moment is worth it.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 47 :: eat your cake

17 Feb

Day 47. Happy, happy, yum, yum.

I think I ate an entire chocolate cake. All by myself.

Well, almost by myself. Justin assures me that he had, at least, one slice (so there’s hope in that!) but overall, I ate the cake. And in record time. I think I ate an entire chocolate cake between Valentine’s Day and today.

Cake was meant to be eaten, I’m sure of it (and can prove it apparently if you place one in front of me or in the near vicinity of a refrigerator in my kitchen it will disappear).

God made cake to be eaten. I’m sure of that too.

And that has me thinking… why can’t we have our “cake” and eat it too? Cake makes me happy. And I like being happy. There are other things that make me happy too… not all have icing on top, but certainly they are sweet (puppies, babies, walks in the forest, spotting heart rocks that the ocean tide left behind, flowers, beautiful things… and now, yoga!).

Oh, there is so much CAKE.
So… here’s to cake!
And enjoying it too.

And if you don’t like cake (by the way, who doesn’t?) and want other, lower calorie ways to be happy and symbolically eat your cake, you can read this.

Yum. Yum.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 46 :: more play, less serious

16 Feb

Day 46. Looking differently.

I had an epiphany the other night. Mostly because Justin told me to pick up my toys. He was pointing at my yoga mats, the ones we had just used to do yoga. He was also kidding, making a joke, and trying to make me laugh.

But the more I thought about it, I realized, he was right!
Toys. Fun. Games. Yoga!

Aha!

And then I started thinking… what if I just had more fun? More play? Less intent and serious stretching. What if I just thought of my yoga mat as getting out my toys? What fun. What joy. What if?

And so… I wonder… what if we could just make everything more fun by just looking at things differently?

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 44 :: let them eat cake!

13 Feb

Day 44. Homemade.

This is what homemade chocolate cake looks like:

Justin made it this morning…And I can guarantee it won’t last long! Happy pre-Valentine’s Day. So tonight I had my yoga and my cake too. I did ten extra minutes of yoga… so that’s at least one more slice of cake, right?

Right.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 43 :: a love bug story

12 Feb

Day 43. Happy endings.

As in waiting patiently for the end of the story.

The Beetle is back, she’s up and running again and ready for the road. But she taught us many things while she was on vacay (or in the shop as some might say).

For one, she taught us discovery. If we didn’t have her for the last week we wouldn’t have discovered on foot the park right behind us (with tennis courts!) or the path right below us (with a salmon ladder because that’s where the salmon swim when they are on the run, apparently!) or the labyrinth nearby, or how comical it is to walk a labyrinth with two dogs (especially our fast-paced color outside the lines kind of dogs).

We also wouldn’t have discovered the walkway that leads to downtown, a mere ten-minute walk from our front door. With a grocery store and everything else one would need, chic boutiques, restaurants, pubs….expansive water views!

But most of all, the gift was this: patience.

If we had not waited patiently for the parts to arrive we wouldn’t have found all the magical, fun stuff around us (maybe in time, but not on foot). But we also wouldn’t have talked to the man at Autozone who pointed us to the man who is now our new mechanic (who charges way less than the VW dealer and seems to know way more about customer service).

It is, as it seems, exactly as it was meant to be. As if the Beetle is now laughing, rightly sitting back in her parking spot, saying, “See, I told you so.”

There is always a gift in everything. Waiting for it to show up is what they call the journey. Recognizing when it arrives, well, that’s always the hardest part (to order and install).

And it all has me thinking…. sometimes more magic comes from the pause rather than the push. Maybe that’s all this yoga talking. Either way….

Beep. Beep.
The Love Bug is back.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 37 :: get out

6 Feb

Day 37. Out. Side.

It’s amazing what happens when you get out. Get out of your house, get outside, get out of your own way.

As we wait for the car part to arrive for the Beetle we find ourselves arriving in our own backyard. As in taking to the streets. Walking places. Good old fashioned fresh air. And guess what we found?

A Park! With tennis courts!

Like ….RIGHT behind us

….With a Labyrinth…

…So we walked it

…And in the center we met some new friends (and learned a few new tips about the town we live in!)

…Then before we left I did a little yoga
(You know… because…when in Rome… or the center of a Labrynth)

But possibly the best find of the day was when Justin spotted this…

Looks “lichen” a red heart to me!

As we left Justin said… “See… if the car didn’t break down maybe we wouldn’t have discovered this!”

Yes… behold. A park. With tennis courts. And a labyrinth. And really nice people. And red-shaped hearts poking out of the ground. Like it was built just for us.

Serendipity? Maybe.
Coincidence? Possibly.
Worth it? Absolutely.

Like I said yesterday….Be. Hold.
And now I say…Get. Out!

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 36 :: behold

5 Feb

Day 36. Behold.

My new favorite word. Behold.

Behold!  It’s been going through my mind for days now. Be. Hold. Be. Hold. Be. Hold.

As in… Be… breathe…be here now.
And hold…as in…receive…welcome….enjoy.

It’s as beautiful as breathing.
Breathe In.
Breathe Out.

It’s something we do automatically. Everyday. All the time. In our SLEEP! That’s pretty amazing if you stop and think about it. Behold it.

Be. Hold.
Tonight as I did my yoga and wrung out the rest of the week, let go of the hard, stressful, unpleasant, unuseful, unnecessary, I thought of the word Behold again.

It’s like the word is whispering to me. Be in this moment. Welcome the next. Rinse. Repeat. Do it again. Be. Hold.

So my dears…Happy Friday….what are you beholding?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 34 :: showing up

3 Feb

Day 34. Little bits.

Songza, no worka. All day. No Songza. So I Googled it… it’s now part of Google Play Music. Oh yeah….Right.

In case you need this:

That was my day. Hit and misza.
So, now I’m yogza outza. Tonight’s routine? Short. Sweet. Barely there. But at least I showed up. And that’s okay. I know it’s in the showing up that makes magic appear.

Bring on tomorrow!

(Plus, I can delete one more app from my phone… more space for something else amazing to appear.)

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 30 :: bunny yoga

30 Jan

Day 3o. Hop, Hop, Hopping along!

This is a real thing. Bunny Yoga!

My friend Ruth sent this to me …and I would do it in a second. Hoppily!
But tonight, I see not bunnies in my future. There’s barely a hop left in my step. So maybe a nice restorative session before I’m off to bed.

Night. Night!

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
