JAMIE’S BLOG – YOGA DAY 6 :: let go of the trash, let the magic unfold

6 Jan

Day 6. Progress. Not perfection.

Tonight I tried Yogaglo (thanks to a tip from my friend Stacy!). And I have to say the note on their site that says:

It’s all about progress, not perfection….

…Really hit home.
Because I think that’s what this year might be about. Progress. Small, bite-sized, everyday progress.

Tonight I stretched my mind a bit in the evening yoga routine. I tried something new. It was very gentle. A routine under New Year, New Perspectives (well said Yogaglo!) and a Ayuveda practice called Ring out the Old, Invite in the New (bring it on 2016).

The practice had me twisted “literally” – mostly to squeeze out the “trash” and compost the things that no longer “serve” me.

It’s kind of like my computer. Last night I emptied all the old data on it, literally blew it up. Today, it’s working faster than ever before. No crashing. No stalling. No stopping. No big ball of rainbow furry rolling on my screen screaming and threatening to shut it all down.

The trash is gone. The data that I no longer need (old emails, old attachments) deleted. And what is left, pure free space. And more ease. And faster performance.

This has me thinking… and wondering about trash and letting go and IF that were to happen what kinds of magic could unfold.

So to 2016 I say: let the magic unfold.

Let the magic unfold.
Let the magic unfold.
Let the magic unfold!

More tomorrow.

{what magic do you want to unfold?}

JAMIE’S BLOG – YOGA DAY 4 :: little moves, big things

4 Jan

Day 4. Little Moves.

I changed it up today and did yoga twice. TWICE!

Before you get all excited, just know that they were each very small routines. One in the morning when I woke up and one just now as I prepare to go to bed.

But it has me thinking about little moves. Small things. In my working world I’m always looking for the “small hinges” that will move big doors. Those are the levers to work first, to create with, to move, to build, to prioritize. And so it is that this yoga goal for 366 (leap year!) days has begun – with small moves.

Tonight I refreshed my goal board.  The chalkboard that hangs on my wall in front of me all year long.

It’s a reminder of the promises I make to myself. And there’s a lot of wisdom in that — making a promise to yourself (instead of somebody else).

Much like putting the oxygen mask on yourself before your child in an event of a cabin pressure moment (you know the spiel) – yoga is beginning to look like the small moves that put energy back into my body before I give it all away to the world, work, wonder, worry and all the other whosie-whatsits around me.

If you want to learn more about small hinges, I recommend the book The One Thing

Little things. Small moves. Big deal.
And with that I feel like I should start saying Namaste at the end of these posts. Maybe I will. Namaste. Namaste? Oh heck, why not….it’s a small move.

More tomorrow.
