JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9
power – 20 days to go
{trust}

There are 20 days left of The Promise 365!

Sometimes the most simple things are the most powerful. I have learned many lessons over the past nine years, including love, fearlessness, abundance, peak performance, bliss, joy, and kindness. All of them have one thing in common, trust.

It’s funny to be on this side of making promises. Now, that I know this is my last one (who would have thought trust would be the grand finale?) I am in awe of how they all connect together through the power of trust.

It takes trust to love. It takes trust to be kind. It takes trust to go after peak performance and to follow your bliss, tap into joy, and live in abundance.

It is the simple power of trusting yourself. And that is simply powerful.

So here’s to trusting yourself in all that you do.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 314 :: cleanse – 51 days to go

10 Nov

{trust}

There are 51 days left of The Promise 365!

My father is here visiting, so today we drove to Salem, Massachusetts and walked through the Salem Witch Museum and the House of Seven Gables. On this trip I realized two things, I have never read the book The House of Seven Gables despite it being on the top reading list for high school students (I have no idea how I missed it) and also, we broke our 4-week cleanse for the first time. But it was all worth it.

We ate at Salem’s best little restaurant, The Lobster Shanty, home of warm beer and lobster mac and cheese. And possibly the world’s best clam chowder. I ordered a veggie burger which is almost okay on our plant-based cleanse. This is how it begins. One cheat day and then the real work begins to stay on track.

It seems ironic to me that I have successfully completed two major cleanses in my lifetime. The first was the very first year of this blog, and as it turns out, the second is in what will be the very last year of this blog.

The first cleanse, The Colorado Cleanse was a 30-day Ayurvedic version where I gave up chocolate, coffee, and alcohol (all staples of my diet at the time) and had to eat raw butter and drink castor oil on the very last day (yuck!) .

This second cleanse, Purium, is a milder routine with an array of plant-based food choices, green shakes, digestive enzymes, protein pills and all the plants, cucumbers and celery I could ever enjoy (I’ve already released 8 pounds). It’s a much nicer routine for my body and one that I could see myself sustaining into the future.

In the first cleanse I was focused on taking things out of my diet, on the second cleanse I have been focused on adding more good things into my body. In so many ways, this juxtaposition sums up my experience in The Promise 365. Where in the past I would choose what was hard, now I opt for the things that are abundant and easy with just the same rewards.

So, here’s to celebrating what is easy, feels good and brings you more abundance.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 305 :: more joy, more peace, more presence

3 Nov
It is Day One of Meditation Nation! Actually, it’s just the next installment of the Chopra/Oprah meditation duo. And this one is a doozie! It’s all about the law of attraction for you Secret readers out there.

I just finished Day One and feel slightly loopy but relaxed. I was taking a dose of my OWN medicine (no pun intended).

Ironically, someone I love very much told me today that she is extremely stressed out and wants to calm down. So I recommended the 21-Day Meditation experience. It seemed like the perfect moment to share some “med-itation med-icine.”

So tonight I am sharing with you too. If you need a moment of zen-peace-calm try this.
You might find your place of chill or you just might attract what you want to you.

More joy?
More peace?
More “presence?”

More peak performance?
‘Tis The Season.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 261 :: extraordinary love note #3, carpe diem

19 Sep

I remember the movie Dead Poets Society, mostly for two words. Carpe. Diem.

Those two words couldn’t have come at a better time in my life. They were like a gift really. As I believe words can be when given from the heart.

I also believe words can be medicine too.  And so it was that I was given “Carpe Diem” to help me through a teenage cancer diagnosis.

Seize the day. I have carried it with me ever since.

It seemed so profound at age seventeen when everything was on the line and high school came with high drama …SAT’s, college exams, choosing the right school, making the right decision, first dates, first kiss, first boyfriend, first leap into adulthood.

Seize the day.

It became a mantra and mandate when going through treatments, losing my hair, losing my teenage dreams, grasping for some assemblance of being “normal” in a sea of doctors, needles, nurses and radiation.

Seize the day.

It’s amazing that a phrase could mean even more at age forty, post mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. Living with the realization that I am one of the lucky ones.

Seize the day.

It caught me off guard today. I woke up and watched Pup limp across the room. His normal gallop turned to a slow, drawn out slide with his right leg. He’s been babying it all day, sometimes moving with ease and sometimes limping along like an old man. He is 91 in human years.

There’s nothing like watching my aging companion, the dog that sits by my side, my co-worker during the day, my cuddle buddy at night while watching TV, take on a limp. It makes me appreciate seizing the day even more than any of my own reasons.

And that makes this woman think that maybe that’s why they call a dog “man’s best friend.” I know Pup will lick his wounds and trot into another day, probably by tomorrow, or maybe even tonight if there is a treat involved.

But it makes me hear very clearly that clock that is always ticking. The one I try to ignore, the one that won’t go away.

And all I can yell back is “Carpe! Diem!”
Because this is, afterall, a love note.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 190 :: halfway through peak performance

7 Jul

It’s funny how this promise thing works.

My first year of writing this blog and making a 365-day promise led me straight into a spiral of spiritual awakening. I thought I just signed up for a year of not shopping. Instead what actually unfolded was pure material magic, and mayhem on my diet, and in the end I discovered love. Pure love. The kind that sugar cannot buy.

It has continued that way each year. I THINK and I truly BELIEVE I am signing up for something so well planned out and conceived of the utmost brilliance. Then the year unfolds and I find that there was another plan in place by someone else — call it God, The Universe, The Divine, Higher Self, What Have You — “IT” has always thrown something else my way that I needed to learn, do, experience (lovemore-fearless!), have, hold, or give up in the case of my thyroid (abundance!).

This year is no different. I would have thought by now, in my year of peak performance, I would have already conquered marathons if not mountains in a single bound. It turns out I am stretching my breast tissue and preparing for another surgery for double mounds.

Isn’t it ironic. Don’t you think?

The year is only half over. One surgery down, one more to go. And there is still so much to unfold. There will be more twists and turns in this journey of peak performance, of that I am sure. Where it will take me, I do not know.

But in the process I am reminded that life is beautiful. And to that I share what has already unfolded for me:

Enjoy simple beauty, pause right now.

Lovemore,
Jamie

BLOG – GIFT DAY 364 :: the abundance quiz

30 Dec

How prosperous are you?

Since this year was a year of abundance (at least my promise!) it only seems fitting to share a quiz that monitors your prosperity.

Interested?
Check it out here: Prosperity Quiz

The questions are easy and no matter how you score it will help question your thinking.

Do you believe in abundance?
Do you have an abundant mindset?
Take the quiz to find out!

Tomorrow officially ends this promise of abundance for me… but it’s just the beginning really.

I have learned so much over this year and this promise.
I started out questioning others about what abundance means to them…. and the answer I received over and over again had to do with food and feasting!

But I now know in my heart it means so much more.

So see you here tomorrow where I will share all I learned and we will celebrate and wrap up and most important… kick of 2014!!!

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 363 :: isn’t it ironic?

29 Dec

I started out this year making a promise of abundance.

And now I sit here chuckling at myself because most of my pants don’t fit. I’ve gained so much this year, including a few pounds around the middle, the bottom and the top.

I guess I wasn’t very clear with the “universe” about what kind of abundance” I wanted.

It’s a good reminder to me.

As I form my promise for next year I will remember the lesson learned: to be clear in what you ask for and to be clear about what you want.

What are you asking for in 2014?

BLOG – GIFT DAY 330 a month of inspiration :: 5 secrets of abundance

26 Nov

Today, in my month-long nod to inspiration, I share a word.

Abundance.

As you know, this year, I dedicated my 365 days to uncovering abundance. What is it? What does it mean? What does it look like?

So, at first, I asked around. I asked my friends, family, and people in my daily life.

Here’s the funny thing about abundance… everyone had a different definition for it. I dare you to get the same answer from 5 people.

In all my conversations, one word kept popping up.

Thanksgiving.

Now we find ourselves here, on the cusp of Thanksgiving Eve. And I am asking myself what have I learned so far about the “A” word?

So tonight I share my TOP 5 Abundance Lessons and what I have discovered thus far… but I warn you …there is still one more month to go in this search for abundance so this is not final.

1. Health is our greatest wealth

Thank you to my thyroid for that one. And a long string of doctor’s appointments across the country from the east coast to the west coast and finally into the caring hands of Dr. Milas of OHSU in Portland, Oregon. The thyroid was benign and as a wave of relief cast over my entire being, I realized something I have known most of my life: health is wealth.

2. Forever Friends are Family

I love my friends dearly. Always have. But this year, in the midst of a cancer scare (see #1) I was reminded what it means to have forever friends. The kind of friends who show up no matter what. The kind of friends who call, write, send surprise gifts in the mail, text, or find some other way to connect and remind you that they care — and are there, even across the miles. These are forever friends. And they are more like family.

3. True Love is for the Dogs

It doesn’t take long for love to set in. Just look in the eyes of a puppy! We successfully passed “Fostering 101” last week according to our Aunt Judy — which means we were able to foster a puppy and then actually follow through to find it a home. It would have been easy to keep her in our little family pack — she was that sweet and that cute. But it wouldn’t have been the best thing for her. And isn’t true love all about knowing what’s best for the one you love?

4. Focus. Focus. Focus.

This year I took on something new — you! Every single day I write to you to help you along with your goals over at The Promise Daily. My mission is to give you a kick in the pants. But what I have learned is that I need this as much as I thought you might like it. Focus is power. And keeping your focus is what allows abundance to grow.

and finally…

5. Words are gifts.

I know I have already shared The Card Crusade with you. But here’s the thing… I truly believe it changed my life… just three little words:  I. LOVE. YOU. — or even — I. THANK. YOU. bring more than a smile to someone’s face. These words warm a heart, they tell someone it was all worth it, they show someone how much you mean even after all these years, after all the tears, hard work, long days, good tries, bad endings, happy reunions or long lost memories in between. Words heal. Words connect. Words work magic on your heart.

So let me leave you with these words of thanks.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for skimming, looking, reading, sharing, posting, referring, and supporting me.

Your presence makes me want to keep my promise.

Your comments get me up in the morning to check and see who’s here.

Your dreams send me searching for more good ideas, inspiring quotes and touch your heart sort of songs that I can share with you.

I. Thank. You.

On this eve before a Thanksgiving celebration, I am full.
Or, you could say, I feel abundant.

All because of you.

More tomorrow.

{may you feel abundant and loved}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 326 :: a month of inspiration :: the power of puppies and water

22 Nov

Today, in my month-long nod to inspiration, I share some water and a bath.
Because it’s very powerful.

Today, Justin spent most of his day fielding calls and making appointments for Miss Sadie, the visiting puppy that we are fostering for a while.

We think we have found the perfect “forever” family for her to meet tomorrow! Keep your fingers crossed and I will keep you updated.

In order to prepare for the big day…
Miss Sadie took a bath.

If this were a movie, the mere sight of water would signal “change” and something new on the horizon. Usually it’s rain or an unexpected storm that interrupts the scene. For Sadie, it was a bath and a really fun shower nozzle that squirts water and was, by her standards, super! exciting! fun!

We hope the “water rule” of change and new life that it brings holds true and ushers Miss Sadie into her forever home. She sure smells good and looks the part of precious puppy.

As I uploaded photos tonight, I realized the very last one of her in the bathroom is blurry. To which Justin remarked:

“That’s what she will be, just a blur in our lives.”

I had to nod my head and agree with a lot of hope in my heart.
And a smile on my face too.

Sadie has already taught me some pretty amazing lessons over these last 48 hours. We all need to feel safe, have a home, good food, fun toys, loving hugs, pats on the back, good boundaries, fair rules and friends to play with.  Oh yeah …and a great bathtub.

All that, just might be the definition of ABUNDANCE.

I will report back tomorrow!

More tomorrow.
Lovemore {fearless!}
Jamie
