JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 180 :: 4-letter word friday

21 Jul

Singing in the RAIN.

It’s POURING rain in Chicago. Sideways rain. Intense flash flood rain.

Of course, it happened at the exact moment we needed to get INTO our taxi to go to dinner… and then again exactly as we needed to hop back into a taxi to return home. It was all worth it of course – great food, great friends, great memories and moments.

Rain is good.
Rain is vital.
But just like kindness, if you smother with too much, too fast, it can cause a flash flood.

Now, get an umbrella.
Cause everyone’s going to get wet!

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 179 :: purple flowers

20 Jul

Mama Sling.

Purple flowers always remind me of my mom. Mama Sling loved purple, and she really loved flowers. Every time I see purple flowers I hear a little whisper in my ear as if she is saying “remember me” or “hello James” or “brush your hair” or “come here and let me hug you.”  You know, the sort of things a mom says to her baby daughter.

Last night, this one motioned in my direction. It was delicate and strong. Waving in the wind and holding its own ground. Much like my Mama Sling.

And, as I think of kindness, I couldn’t think of a more KIND reminder to have of my mama. Blowin’ in the wind.

So unmistakably beautiful – and kind.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 170 :: doing less

11 Jul

Kind Time.

I am reading a very cool book (still) it’s one I picked up months ago called Real Power, Business Lessons from the Tao Te Ching (the world’s oldest leadership manual, written, according to legend, by the sage Lao-tzu in the sixth century B.C.E..)

The chapter tonight was all about doing less, or rather “Doing Nothing and Leaving Nothing Undone.” It’s a hard concept to grasp in this busy, busy, busy world. But they have a point.

We all need time to think. Time to be silent. Time to reflect. And it’s hard to find that time if we don’t unwind or disconnect to find our thoughts and brilliant ideas.

So today I did something crazy! I went to the pool and sat with my thoughts. It was wonderful – and in so many ways, so very kind.

Kind Time.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 165 :: gifts of kindness

6 Jul

Surprise.

I have been thinking a lot about gifts this year. Kindness as a gift, a silent one in so many ways – and the loudest gift of all.

But today, a box showed up on our doorstep. It’s a wedding gift!

And, I have to say… boxes are FUN to open! Thank you, Dick and Judy. Not only for a box filled with gifts but for all of your love and support and the ultimate gift of kindness you have always shown us.

Afterall…
Kindness is a gift.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 161 :: the re-entry

2 Jul

Kind Thoughts.

It’s hard to re-enter the real world after being on top of the world.

The Sunday-night blues are real, but when it comes to kindness, my understanding is that we have to be kind to ourselves. Unconditionally kind and good and nurturing and so super sweet to ourselves.

Especially on the re-entry.
So here’s to a kind week ahead.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 160 :: forever and always

1 Jul

Kindness.

We are home, after a week of family, food, and so much fun. Horseback riding, white water rafting, Rocky Mountain hiking. It’s been a strong reminder that love is kind and family is rooted in deep connection.

It’s also a relief.

It’s been so hard for me this year to blog and report on my deep feelings and realizations of kindness, with our secret wedding plans in the background. Yet, it has been SO worth it. To marry the man that has stood by my side through thick and thin, and good and bad, sickness and health, has been an entirely eye-opening lesson in kindness.

And now here we are, husband and wife.
How kind.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 74 :: cup of kindness

18 Mar

Care.

Today my intentional act of kindness is to take CARE of myself. Mostly since Diane, the Queen of 4-Letter Words, wrote me last night with the suggestion that “Care” is indeed a good 4-letter word that follows “sick” – good point. Cough, cough, sneeze.

Then I found this:

Maybe we all need a cup of kindness each day?
(No matter how we feel!)

#MLK.

This seems like enough to post today. It’s a message of love but it’s an act of kindness.

May you walk forward in love, kind soul.

More tomorrow.
