JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 290 :: kind slowness

17 Oct

Oh, Internet.

It’s day three of my internet being on strike. The good news is that the technician appointment is tomorrow and a new router will be installed. The bad news is that the interwebs are slow. I mean s …l …o …w.

So tonight’s post will be short as I share something that I read earlier today: it reminds me to SLOW down, be calm and enjoy the ride.

“Remember that everything that will occur in your life will occur in its own time. Quelling your urge to rush will enable you to witness yourself learning, changing, and becoming stronger. There is so much to see and do in between the events and processes that we deem definitive. If you are patient enough to take pleasure in your existence’s unfolding, the journey from one pinnacle to the next will seem to take no time at all.” – madisyn taylor

That reminds me …kindness is best absorbed at a slow pace.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 285 :: kind underwear

12 Oct

Hello Airport.

I fell in love with a pair of underwear this week. I know, it sounds silly. But is there anything more KIND than a great pair of underwear?

The funny thing is I found them in the airport. After I realized that I forgot to pack underwear for my trip this week. After I had already gone through security. Don’t ask me how I forgot, they just didn’t make it in my bag.

“Where am I going to get underwear?” I thought to myself as I walked to my gate, plotting a trip to get underwear somewhere in Chicago once I landed.

Just then, I walked by a little store and noticed out of the corner of my eye a display of underwear on the back wall.  SCORE!  I turned my roller bag and beelined it into Exofficio.

When the sales clerk asked if she could help me, I smiled. Actually, I grimaced, as I admitted that I forgot to pack underwear.

“Oh, you are going to LOVE our underwear!” She walked me to the back wall and went into more detail than anyone has ever gone into before about the panties on your rear.

She gushed:
“They are so thin you can barely feel them on!
They fit perfectly!
They are odor free and stain free!
You can wash them in the sink and they dry in ten minutes so you don’t have to pack as many pairs when you go on vacation!”

I smiled at her nicely, but in the back of my head, I thought she was tiny bit crazy. I just needed some underpanties pronto and didn’t care if they required dry cleaning at this point. As long as they could get me to Chicago and back I was sold.

I checked out and went on my way. Funny thing is… she was right.  I LOVE this underwear. More than I loved my patterned underoos as a kid. Upon arriving back in SeaTac airport today I walked myself right back into that store and bought a few more pairs to take home.

As I was checking out the sales clerk recognized me. I nodded and said, “Yes, I’m back! And I LOVE the underwear!”

Just then, a woman checking out at the counter looked over at me and said, “Underwear?” with a quizzical look.

I found myself gushing:
“They are so thin you can barely feel them on!
They fit perfectly!
They are odor free and stain free!
You can wash them in the sink and they dry in ten minutes so you don’t have to pack as many pairs when you go on vacation!”

Yeah…. so I have now talked more about my underwear with strangers in airports in one week than I have over my entire life. But let me say this: nothing is more kind than a great pair of underoos on your bottom. Talk about feeling powerful and kind all at the same time.

(Bonus! They told me Exofficio has a super undies sale two times a year.)

My new motto: be kind and wear comfortable underwear.

More tomorrow…

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 284 :: kind choices

11 Oct

Choices.

I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by stories and sad stories and horror stories. Thanks a lot, media. It seems to me that there has been a lot of “not so great choices” made lately leading to “not so great” news.

And that has me thinking about choices.
And choice.
And how we always have a choice.
And, if nothing else, we have a choice to be kind.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 281 :: positively kind

8 Oct

Rise up.

If there’s one thing that being under the weather gives me, it’s this: perspective.
Which is why I picked this quote as I nursed my little head cold today.

We rise by lifting others.
We also rise by lifting ourselves too. Because what goes around comes around as trite as that sounds.

Kindness has a boomerang effect. And, as I am learning, sharing the power of kindness starts with taking care of ourselves.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 277 :: sprinkling kindness

4 Oct

Free Fun.

Who doesn’t love FREE? I love free fun. Even more than that, I love doing things that cost nothing but are priceless – usually, creating memories with friends or family.

Ironically, in this year of Kindness, the “Big K” is teaching me that FUN is kind.

Especially when we are kind to others.
Most especially when we are kind to ourselves.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 276 :: keeping it together

From The Kindness Diaries.

Oh, kindness. Thank you for teaching me so much this year, and tonight for teaching me this: Good friends make all the difference.

Here’s to keeping the love, support, and laughter of friends together.
That’s kindness in my diary.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 275 :: free falling

2 Oct

Choosing Kindness.

There are days when I feel like I have all the answers. And then, there are days, like today, when I feel that I know nothing at all. In this year of intentional acts of kindness, I am reminded that sometimes we don’t have the answers or control.

But we always have a choice.

And there is a moment that occurs, in the middle of chaos, in the middle of a broken heart, in the middle of loss and losing where all we have left is a choice. Our choice.

Kindness has taught me this:
That choice is our responsibility — it’s how we react and respond. The more space we build between that moment of terror, and how we answer the call, is the place where we find peace in our hearts.

And kindness.

While our hearts reel and our minds cope with the reality of the world we live in today, I do know this, in the words that Tom Petty gave us: the waiting is the hardest part.

The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you see one more card
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 274 giving up on kindness

1 Oct

Pleasure.

I found this article tonight:

How Kindness Became Our Forbidden Pleasure

One quote caught my attention:

In giving up on kindness — and especially our own acts of kindness — we deprive ourselves of a pleasure that is fundamental to our sense of well-being.

Art by Jean-Pierre Weill from The Well of Being

One point made in the article is that kindness requires a sense of vulnerability. And open-heartedness. The proliferation of the internet with anonymous comments, posts, and tweets has given rise to the age of snarkiness. And that works against kindness — and our well-being.

Well being.
Are those the magic words to open the door of kindness — for you, for me, for everyone?

If you read the article… I would love to know what do you think.
With an open heart.

More tomorrow….

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 273 :: a mission of love

30 Sep

Kindness.

Oh, October! You are almost here… and I think I’m “getting it” now. October is the “aha” month. The month when things begin to make sense. And, in this year of making a 365-day promise of intentional acts of KINDNESS I am reminded of the most powerful lesson of all – LOVE.

My promise this year is wrapping itself all the way back around and touching my heart with the most original lesson of all – LOVE.

My mission in this life is love. Thus, it seems, all my lessons are about love too. They come in different forms of course. And this year, it seems, love wants to remind me to have fun -to play- and to tap into my passion.

Oh, October, I know you have more waiting for me. Until then (tomorrow it all begins) I will remember to walk with love on the soles of my shoes – and a playful heart.
