JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 240 :: friday tip

26 Aug

Day 240: Friday Feeling.

I am officially on vacation. In the middle of a lake. On a houseboat. (Maybe even a bit inebriated…maybe? That’s so not yoga of me.) But the blog goes on!

Today’s tip is from Amy again. Since it’s Friday… I thought it would be fun to be short, sweet and quotable.

Vacation. All I ever wanted… Vacation… happy to get away.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 97 :: average or beautiful, how about real self-love?

8 Apr
I love beautiful things. They brighten my day. I love the concept of beauty and I love the concept of finding something beautiful in everything.

Whether it’s the flowers popping up out of the ground or the people all around. (Like these beauties that just appeared in our yard!)

The most beautiful person I ever knew was my mother. That’s not hard to imagine. She was amazingly kind and wonderful. She radiated love. She practically glowed. But she once told me that her father called her homely. And he meant it sincerely.

I think the exact quote was, “It’s a good thing you’re so kind because your looks are so homely.”

I was just a teenager when she told me this. It made me want to cry, for her. It sounded so mean and horrible to me. I could not imagine anyone saying that to someone they loved. Especially to my mother! My Mama Sling!

Which is why I cried today while watching this Dove commercial circling around the world. The video shows a stunt forcing women to choose to walk through a door that said “Average” or “Beautiful”. The marketer in me was impressed, the human in me was dismayed. At first, I contemplated which door I would choose, and then I thought about my mom, and which door she would choose. Then I read this from Buzzfeed, and thought…why yes, why should women have to choose?

What if the doors had said things like:
Funny! Loving! Kind! Awesome! Smart! Self Starter! Quirky! Patient! or …A Kick In the Pants!

Words matter.
A lot.
They stick to your skin longer than any soap ever invented.
And beauty runs stronger than skin deep.

So that said, I am sharing my first #LoveMoreDoMore Sunday Interview. It’s with Amy Leigh Mercree, self-starter and self-love expert. In it we talk about self love among other things and I share my silly little self-image struggle with my thumbs. Yes, my thumbs 😉 I know, silly, but real. Find out what Amy recommends for my thumbs (and I did it!!).

I was going to wait to release this interview, but I can’t. Not after seeing that Dove video today. (To listen to the interview by telephone please dial 1-302-202-1115 and enter Recording ID: 25240879 when prompted for it.)

Love on dear, awesome, kind, smart, quirky, patient, kick in the pants beautiful ones! Love. On.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 84 :: swimming with dolphins

25 Mar
What’s on your bucket list?

Part of my promise this year is to explore bliss, and in my quest for bliss I am starting a new series called #LoveMoreDoMore Sundays. It’s my way of connecting with people who are doing good things in life, love and business, and sharing it with you.

This Sunday will be the debut program and it’s all about dolphins.
DOLPHINS!

My friend Amy will be leading a trip to Bimini later this year and I can’t wait to interview her to learn more about this adventure. I hope you tune in on Sunday!

>>Click here to register for the first #LoveMoreDoMore Sunday!

If you were to create Bliss List what would be on  it?
If your bliss could take you anywhere, where would you go?

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 308 :: inspired… what do you love?

4 Nov

Today, in my month-long nod to inspiration, I ask what do you love?

I am inspired to share a few examples of love.
And what happens when we tap into that powerful force of passion lurking inside us.

On a personal note, my first love was not a boy (sorry Justin!)… it was a basketball.

The GAME of basketball stole my heart at a very young age. And, as you know if you know me, that dream was cut short by cancer.

I survived but had to say goodbye to my dreams of basketball greatness.  I think that’s why I LOVE this movie so much.  Justin, the guy I love dearly, showed me this movie trailer and I was immediately hooked.

Long Shot, The Kevin Laue Story is coming soon to a theatre near you… and I cannot wait to see it!  It’s the story of how Kevin Laue became the first player in Division One college basketball with only one arm.

The lesson is love: whenever you think you can’t, you can. You can do anything.

Speaking of doing…
My wonderful friend Amy’s latest article on Choosing Love in Politics and Life is a must read.

Amy was inspired to write this article by one woman’s courageous act to run for congress. Her name?  Marianne Williamson. You may know Marianne from her career as a spiritual author, speaker, guru of all things love.  Now she is stepping up to the plate and leading the way to represent a platform of love and nonviolence in politics.

It’s clearly one of her passions and I think there is nothing more amazing than seeing someone go after what they believe in while trying to change the world.

Speaking of changing the world….
It’s quite simple and it starts at home.  As Amy writes in her article, “Loving ourselves is the single most powerful way to better our lives.”

I couldn’t agree more.
Because, you are already perfectly lovable.

So finally, a little love tune to set the mood for this holiday season. Can you feel it in your fingers and toes?

It’s all about Love Actually.
Isn’t everything?

More tomorrow.
