JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 the last post & the grand finale

31 Dec

{trust}

I dreamt of this blog last night. Then I woke up and in a daze realizing I forgot to write a blog post. I have never missed a post in nine years. Apparently, two chocolate martinis and a night of fun with friends were enough to allow my mind to drift off to sleep without a blog in between. Maybe it’s a sign, that it is time to wrap up this adventure in blogging.

So today, I present the grand finale. The last post. The final blog. It hardly seems possible.
There have been some amazing moments, including:

Spa moments where this blog started:

Paris Redo moments where I learned my name means LOVE.

Surprise moments with friends across the pond!

A fearless Swimming with Sharks moment!

Rafting the Grand Canyon moments

And there have been the years of big promises:
Peak Performance which led me to surgery and Oprah (thank you Kim!)

There was a year of Bliss and Mary Poppins!

And that year of Kindness where we finally tied the knot — as a surprise pop-up wedding at the family reunion in Estes Park!

Image may contain: 21 people, including Mike Everist, Danny Pickering, Beverly J. Everist, Jaynane Aiken, Nicole Holub, Justin Jay Aiken, Judy Sawyer Davis and Andrew Holub, people smiling, people standing, wedding, tree and outdoor

There were messages of Joy…

And there was that time that I did Yoga for a Year

There were trips from the Grand Canyon

No photo description available.

To Lake Powell

Image may contain: 6 people, including Andrew Holub and Ali Everist, people smiling, people standing, mountain, child, sky, outdoor and nature

To my homeland of Germany and the little town of Esslingen

There have been friends along the way:

There have been moments with family:

Reuniting with family:

Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling, people sitting and indoor
Image may contain: 3 people, including Julie Black, people smiling, people standing, night and indoor

And memories pulled from the scrapbook:

There was always Pup right by my side, including my suitcase:

And then there was Brady…lovable and mischievous:

There have been teams:

Taking one for the team:

Image may contain: 1 person, smiling

And there were storms:

But the best part was surviving the storm:

There was marching in Seattle:

Image may contain: 4 people, including Kathleen Petrzelka, people smiling

And cheering in Boston:

Image may contain: 2 people

And drinking on Lake Powell

Image may contain: 1 person

And at music festivals:

Image may contain: 3 people, including Lisa Roe, people smiling

I have learned to fall and to fly:

So many of my posts and inspiration I owe to this one amazing angel, Mama Sling

And there has always been this guy, right by my side, looking out for my best interest, picking me up when I needed it, and always, always, always surprising me along the way:

Image may contain: 16 people, including Justin Jay Aiken and Heather Stearns, people smiling

It’s hard to believe we are entering a new decade. And yet, the timing feels right. If I have learned anything it is to follow your dreams, set a goal and make a promise. The gift is the adventure. All you have to do is show up.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for reading. Thank you for your notes of encouragement and words of wisdom. You have made a difference in my life, and this adventure would not have been the same without you.

Happy New Year.
Happy New Decade.
May your dreams and hearts desires find you along the way.

For one last time…Trust me!

You got this.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 shine bright – 2 days to go

29 Dec

{trust}

There are 2 days left of The Promise 365, and tonight I am reflecting on the past decade. So much has happened in the past ten years…for a quick review:

Best Memes of the Decade
Best Movies of the Decade
Best Albums of the Decade
Top Ads of the Past DecadeTop Lists of the Decade

If there is anything I can share, or have learned or wisdom I can impart from these past ten years, it is this: Shine Your Light. Share what you have to give, give what you have to share. Be bigger and bolder each year, and share your brilliance with this world.

Trust me!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 accomplish – 3 days to go

28 Dec

{trust}

There are 3 days left of the Promise 365. It hardly seems possible. As I sit here and look back on the last decade, and where we have been, what we have done, what has transpired and what has not, I am reminded of the gentle art of patting yourself on the back. Meaning – remember how far you have come.

Just today, Facebook sent me the annual montage of photos from the past year. It’s amazing what we can pack into a year. So in this moment of looking back and looking forward, I have this to say: remember how far you have come. It will fuel your future.

Trust me!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 take a moment – 4 days to go

27 Dec

{trust}

There are 4 days left of The Promise 365, and all I can think is how much time flies. So much happens in a week, a month, a year, and almost a decade. Time seems to have sped up and yet, the daily motion of taking a moment and writing a blog makes time stand still. If only for a few minutes. And I highly recommend it.

If I could wrap up all the experiences of this blogging adventure I would say this: Take a moment to feel the moment.

Trust me!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 today – 5 days to go

26 Dec

{trust}

There are 5 days left of The Promise 365.

Tonight I am sitting around the fire with my husband and his extended family, feeling the full effects of being present… from the Christmas tree to the photo books, to the shared memories and the shared laughter.

When I was younger my favorite book was called The Precious Present. It was a fable about learning to live in the present moment, and how valuable that precious moment is, more valuable than all the riches of the world. I wrote about my personal story of this book on Day 160 of my first year of blogging, in a blog post called Your First Suit

The ironic thing about this blog is that it has forced me to be present to each and every day. For nine years. This blog has been about a promise but it has become so very precious. It has counted the days and the stories and the moments of life. A life lived with family and friends and people I love. If nothing else, it has captured the art of being present.

Trust me when I say, we have nothing but the present. Treat it as precious.

Trust me!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 surprises – 6 days to go

25 Dec

{trust}

There are 6 days left of The Promise 365.

Last night we bought our annual Christmas ornaments. It’s our new tradition after our wedding and first married Christmas. We now have two years of ornaments. Last year included a Patriots one and a memorial dog one for our #1 Pup. This year we chose a Star Wars duo of Rae and Kylo Ren and a sentimental anniversary one with interchangeable anniversary years 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 etc…

It made me think about the twists and turns of life. We could be putting a 25-year ornament on the tree if we had stayed together since we first met. But that was not our destiny. Instead, we are celebrating 2 years married.

And that is the lesson that Trust as reminded me of most this year… we must trust the twists and turns of life, the winding paths, and the adventures along the way. There will be many momentos and memories but they are always sweeter because they are a surprise.

Trust me!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 revel – 8 days to go

23 Dec

{trust}

There are 8 crazy nights left of The Promise 365 and this year.

It’s a good thing that I have written a blog for the last nine years because I have a terrible memory. This blog will be a really nice diary to look back and remember all the adventures of these past nine years. But I do remember all the big, life-changing moments. (Like our surprise, pop up wedding in Estes Park.) In fact, I revel in them. They are the defining memories who make me who I am.

May you revel in the big moments!

There are 9 days left of The Promise 365 and this year.

If there is any time of year to practice joy, it is now. I am reminded of the year I practiced joy and learned the power of enjoying the little things.

May the little things bring you big joy.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 persevere – 10 days to go

21 Dec

{trust}

There are 10 days left of The Promise 365 and this year.

If there is one important, prevailing concept I could share, in one word, it would be this: persevere. We are who we are, and we are all here because of perseverance.  Possibly a little luck too, but if there is one word I could hang my hat on and hold myself to I would choose perseverance over luck.

We all have perseverance. It is what makes us who we are – from the prevailing zygote to the continuous beating heart, to every breath we take. We persevere.

So it is, that I have shared my stories over the years here on this blog. From the Grand Canyon to the Moving Vans to the Surgical Rooms and back again. From the late nights and early mornings, the sunrise and sunsets. From hurricanes and sharks to scars and surprises, I have shared the uncanny ironies, precious moments and warm memories. And I must say, this has taken a pretty good dose of perseverance.

And I will miss this.

There will be nights where I pick up my computer and forget that I am no longer blogging every single night. But there will also be moments of relief too, when I can put on my pajamas like the rest of the world and just go to bed without scribing a blog.  This is the contrast of the past and the future but the string that ties them together is an act of perseverance.

So let me just say, may you have all the perseverance you need and more to live your great adventures. You got this.

Trust me!
