JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 123 :: bubly

2 May

I have consumed my weight in bubbly water this week. It’s the only way I can get enough liquids in my body. But I have to say, if one must be sick, bubbly water is one way to feel a little bit of joy.

Along with that I have discovered a new brand, called Bubly. I love it. It makes me feel… well, bubbly.  I have gone through two cases in four days.

But, If one must be sick, might as well feel bubbly.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 70 :: the kindness of popsicles

14 Mar

Sometimes you just need a popsicle. Or four.

After two days of fighting off a cold, today, I waved the white flag. I am sick. I admit it. As much as I don’t want to, as much as I am downing vitamins and tea, I have a cold.

Which calls for kindness.
And popsicles. Lots of popsicles.
It is the kindest thing I can think of for this sore throat.
It’s intentional and kind. Seems to be the perfect combination. And maybe that’s one of the lessons Kindness is trying to teach me this year.

Kindness starts at home.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY :: 22 sick yoga

22 Jan

Day 22. Permission to slow down.

Woke up with a fever. Have been shivering all day. And yet, I made a promise to do yoga at the beginning of the year. So, yoga in bed it was. With a video found on YouTube:

I never really thought of yoga as a listening tool. A way to listen to my body. Yet, tonight I did.

Now back under the covers I go, chic flick loaded on Netflix, tea on.
Permission to slow down, granted.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 318 :: blissful dreaming

18 Nov

Today’s bliss…bed.

More like my bed heater. It’s that time of night over here. Where I switch on the bed heater before I write my blog so that I can crawl into the warm cozy sheets as soon as my eyes are ready to fade.

Because it’s getting cold here. The rain is turning into chilled air and it feels like winter is on her merry way. Which I welcome with open snowballs in my arms. Because that means the holidays are coming, and twinkling lights with green wreaths and surely my attempt at making my mother’s dinner rolls will soon follow.

And just the thought of that has me singing in my head a refrain from a musical that I can barely remember. But I remember this line:

All I want is a room somewhere. Far away from the cold night air. Warm place, warm food, warm chair… and wouldn’t it lovely.

Loverly. Loverly.
Blissful dreams. Night night.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 35 :: it’s cold in texas

4 Feb
Welcome to Texas! It’s cold here tonight but it’s supposed to heat up this weekend. Which I will enjoy with a big scoop of bliss! Not for the warm weather but for spending time with friends. I can hardly wait … just to be a little silly and a lot relaxed.

It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them.
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

It’s cold in Texas tonight but it’s all warm in my heart!

More tomorrow.

Jamie’s BLOG – DAY 228 : head. cold.

16 Aug

Justin just ran out to buy me some NyQuil. I’ve been in bed most of the day nursing a sore throat.

Peak performance seems to be put on the back burner. And it’s a good reminder for me to take a day off.

Nothing a little NyQuil can’t help. Well, maybe some NyQuil and some chocolate ice cream too?

More tomorrow.

{do you need a day off?}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 345 :: december travel: home for the holidays

11 Dec

Home sweet home.

SNIFF. SNIFF. Cough. Cough.
There’s nothing like flying with a cold. I just returned home and all I want for Christmas is to go to bed and sleep this head cold off.

I was excited to see the tippy top of snow covered mountains when I landed in Portland.

And, now, after planes, trains and automobiles (otherwise known as taxi cabs) I am home.

My gift today will be going to bed early. Because, really, what could be better than extra sleep to fight a cold?

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 342 :: december travel: bye bye seattle

8 Dec

I’m waving goodbye to Seattle today.

As we left the city our shuttle driver said, “It hasn’t been this cold in Seattle for 20 years!”

I’m not sure if that is an official record, but it was cold here.
And SO sunny!

Cold enough to appreciate a warm fireplace – whether it is inside or outside!

December is here so I shouldn’t be surprised, but Ms. December feels unseasonably cold to me — and in so many parts of the country, including that crazy Philly Snow Bowl.

It’s enough to make me wish I would have read this article a week ago:

Outdoor Home Prep to Do Before Hard Winter Hits

Maybe you still have time?
If so, consider it a gift!

I am headed to Chicago and will report back from there.

More tomorrow.

Day 260: lovemore monday :: fluffy, pink robe

17 Sep

It’s Lovemore Monday and I’m sick.

My head is pounding. My body is aching. My dogs are barking.

Not my feet. My DOGS. Pup and Brady are barking.

One is whining because the other has his bone. The other is growling because he is protecting the bone. They like their bones. But they REALLY love their bone when the other one has it.

It makes me wonder…why do we seem to love something more when it’s gone, otherwise occupied, or taken away?

I am so loving my health right now, especially as I watch it slip slide away into a sore throat.

It makes me want to pout and plead for my health to come back. Just like the big, old, puppy dog eyes Pup gives me when he wants a bone.

So, I’m signing off tonight in my favorite fluffy, pink robe and double socks on my feet just to stay warm and toasty as this fever breaks. I’m hoping my immune system will throw me bone. And my fluffy, pink robe will work its magic.

And, that’s why, on this Lovemore Monday…

I. Love. It.

Day 156: what’s in the way of your view?

5 Jun

It’s cold here.
I’m cold.

And, it’s not just because I recently drove from Florida where it was too hot to wear long sleeves (let alone socks, rain boots, sweaters, long underwear and sweats!).

Maybe my blood has thinned … regardless, it is bone-fide, teeth chattering COLD here on Martha’s Vineyard.

And raining.

The high today barely felt like 60 degrees.
My fingers are frigid and I am bundled under a wooly blanket as I prepare for another long, cold, night thinking …where is the love with this weather?

Okay, so I’m a sissy when it comes to being cold.
I am a sissy with a capital S when I am COLD and WET.

As I sit here sipping hot water, I keep spinning positive affirmations through my mind:  “It’s warm inside, I am warm inside, it’s hot in here, I am burning up!”

It’s not working.
But, it’s worth trying.

Because I know we are what we focus on.
We are what we believe.

Just like this beautiful photo I took in the harbor the other day on my iPhone (colors enhanced with Picasa).

Beautiful, isn’t it!?

But, look what was in the way of this pure-blue, pretty view: a beached, yellow banana boat.

Same beach.
Same scene.
Different photo.
Different view.

It makes me realize… sometimes the view is only as beautiful as we want it to be.

Now, I’m not so sure that solves my shivering dilemma, but it’s worth thinking about until it gets hot in here.

Other than ice cubes for finger tips, I do wonder….
What else is in the way of my view?
