JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 302 :: new experiences

2 Nov

{trust}

Vacation Day One. I am back in Naples where this blog began so many years ago. Starting this blog was such a new experience back then trying so many new things to take care of my head, heart, body and soul. So it’s not ironic that I am back in Naples finding new adventures.

Today’s adventure was a dance class. Say what? You have to remember that I have never taken dance in my entire life, except for one unfortunate ballet class when I was eleven years old and six feet tall with size ten feet. It didn’t end well so I never went back. Dancing for me has always been at a bar, party or wedding. Usually with a glass of wine in my hand.

Today’s dance class was not ballet and there was no alcohol. It was more divine feminine sensual (there was a pole) and a group of amazing trusting women. I attended as a guest because my dear sister-friend Amy spoke about her new book A Little Bit of Goddess. Then we danced in a free form way being led by one of the dance teachers.

This may sound easy for most people. For me, it was stumbling my way through a new adventure. I grew up playing sports, where I got points, made baskets, scored goals, or worked toward hitting a ball or running really fast. There was no free flow, no inner goddess, just absolute strength, endurance, and accuracy.

But today I danced. I didn’t touch the pole, I would know what to do with it, but I did dance to my inner goddess, inner child and inner warrior. At one point in the dance Amy glided over my way and whispered, “You get 100 points!”

Then we laughed. She knows my love language is sports, not rhythmic movement. Despite my reservations about what to do with my body or not having a goal to shoot for, I must say I am pretty proud of my ability to trust a new adventure.

After all, to try something new you have to trust yourself.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 167 :: dance with joy

16 Jun
{dance, dance, dance}

Tonight we celebrate the marriage of Andy and Courtney. It’s been a day of blood, sweat and tears.

The blood is for family and the beauty of reunion. The hugs the stories the memories all wrapped into a moment that will become more folklore for generations to come.

The sweat is from the hot Maine summer sun beating down on us as we awaited the lovely couple’s entrance and nuptials while fanning our faces with the program. It was a blessing that the sky was blue and the sun was out. It was a perfect day for the perfect couple with all the heat that comes with it.

And then there were the tears. From the moment the bride came into view, to the heartfelt vows shared, to remembering those who couldn’t be with us on this very important day, to the speeches, the toasts, and the first dance.

And then… there was the dancing. From littles to bigs, from young to old, there was the shared vibration of music, love and laughter.

It was a good reminder to live, love, laugh and dance.

There is joy in dancing. On any day. At any age. But especially at weddings.

May joy be with you.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 196 :: just dance

21 Jul

Day 196: Summer.

Tonight, I danced. And it’s a good reminder for me. To dance with life.

We went to a summer festival outdoor concert. The night was hot, the music by Rabbit Wilde was great and the dancing was on. (So was the sweat.)

Kids. Elderly. Parents. Teens. Grandmas. Babies. Me. All dancing.

As we left, I asked Jill if dancing counted as my yoga tonight, and she said “sure!” because dance is the highest form of yoga. Or that was how yoga started. Or something that tied yoga and dance together.

Anyhoo… my point is… sometimes you do what you can do and that is a good thing to do. And tonight…. I danced. Me! I don’t normally dance without copious amounts of alcohol going through my veins. But tonight, all I had was Thai food and two little girls who wanted to dance.

And it’s a good reminder to me…. to dance.
To dance with life.

Just dance.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
