JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 321 :: blend – 45 days to go

16 Nov

There are 45 days left of The Promise 365! Tonight I celebrate blending.

I just opened up my brand new Vitamix blender this week. I couldn’t be more excited about it and I also find it quite ironic. In my first year of blogging and my very first promise, I bought my first blender, an Oster. It didn’t work out so well, as you can read here. Now, in my last year of blogging I find myself with the blender of my dreams, the much dreamed of Vitamix.

I found it on sale (of course). Also, another point of irony and juxtaposition of Year 1 and Year 9 of this blog. I no longer have to make or break a promise when I want to shop or buy something. But the lesson will always be with me.

My first blender taught me the power of whole foods, green smoothies and raw cacao nibs. This blender is much more powerful, graceful and effective. I would like to think I am too, somehow, after spending the last nine years reflecting on life and love every single night.

If I have learned anything, it is this. We are all a blend of our promises and pursuits, success and strife, dreams and determination. So blend up something good!

Trust me!
More tomorrow.Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 304 :: sweet dreams

2 Nov
Today we gained an hour. I didn’t realize it until it was too late. I unintentionally used it for some extra sleep. My body must have needed it. I suppose that makes it a surprise gift?

Speaking of surprises, and gifts, and sleep, I had a dream this week.

It’s the same recurring dream I’ve had since that pesky cancer diagnosis ripped me off the basketball court in high school.  In my dream I’m playing basketball. It’s usually some form of my subconscious working out a buzzer beater play. I have the ball. We need to score. Sometimes I don’t have the ball but I’m trying desperately to get the ball. The clock is always ticking. The pressure is always on.

The dream takes on different forms. But in many ways it’s always the same. A high school basketball game and I’m trying to make a play.

But this week my dream changed. Instead of fighting for the ball on the court, I was the coach making the call from the sidelines. I somehow changed roles and I woke up feeling free.

It was more than a symbolic breakthrough.
It was it’s own form of a peak performance.
It was beautiful.
And a sweet dream.

More tomorrow.

2014 BLOG – DAY 51 :: rise up

20 Feb

What is your ideal day?
What time does your ideal day start?
What do you do first? Next? After that?

I promised to talk about “ideal days” today because it relates to peak performance and the gold standard.  Yesterday, I shared the “Think Gold” mantra. Today I am blending these two concepts into a “Gold Medal Day.”

What is a Gold Medal Day?
It’s your perfect day. Your ideal schedule.

I recently reworked my ideal day, and *gasp* it starts at 5:30am!
Starting at sun up to sun down I made a list of everything that I want to accomplish in one day. It looks like this:

5:30 – wake, take thyroid pills, take dogs out
6 – write
7 – plan daily projects
8 – shower and dress
8:30 to noon – meetings and work
12 to 1pm – lunch
1 to 5 – meetings and work
5:30 – gym, workout, play
7 – dinner
8 – blog
9 – read and go to bed

That’s the Gold Medal Day.
It doesn’t happen in that order every single day. Life happens in between, calling my attention to laundry, dogs running inside with muddy feet, date night, fun, friends, travel, fabulous excursions, grocery shopping, naps, what have you!

Like an athlete that trains, this is the schedule that leads to peak performance. There are bronze days and silver medal days too. There are days where I don’t even place in the top three.

As mundane as it seems, this schedule is the big, huge, Olympic goal. It’s the little, tiny, minute steps forward each day that lead to peak performance.

That, and being in it to win it. Putting down a performance everyday with passion, love, dedication and determination.

It’s also a simple equation. Show Up + Rise Up = Gold.

So, now that I’ve shared…
What is your ideal Gold Medal Day?

More tomorrow.
Lovemore {fearless}

{what is your ideal day?}
