JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 314 :: dogs – 52 days to go

9 Nov

{trust}

There are 52 days left of The Promise 365!

Tonight I reflect on two of the best supporters I have had over the course of these last nine years. One we gained along the way, and the other we lost. But both have taught us so many lessons in love and how to play, rest and repeat.

So, here’s to Pup and Brady! Our fearless little creatures that are full of unconditional love and lit up the path I walked through all the ups and downs of The Promise 365.

Trust me!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 221 :: trust the present

9 Aug

{trust}

Tonight we watched the movie, “The Art of Racing In The Rain.” I cried through the entire movie. It’s a movie for humans and especially for humans who love dogs. It’s especially emotionally draining for anyone who recently lost their dog, but then again, there really is no moratorium on the heartbreak of losing your best friend.

I cried mostly because of Pup. He has been gone for a little over a year now but he is still so present in our hearts and memories. I think that’s the thing about dogs, they are forever connected to the heartstrings of the family tree.

One of the lines that stuck with me most from the movie was: “The best drivers don’t dwell on the future or the past. The best drivers focus only on the present.”

That is what our pets do for us, refocus us on the present moment. The wagging of the tail, the panting of the tongue, the leaping with joy, the barking and the snoring with great verve. They are the best teachers of the present moment.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 104 :: trust there will always be more treats

15 Apr

{trust}

Today would have been Pup’s 18th birthday…

And even though we miss him so much we are so happy to have had his love and high fives for seventeen years. It has me thinking about trust and love and the trust it takes to share a life with a dog. Being man’s best friend is kind of a misnomer. In many ways they are that and so much more, including comic relief, a welcome home greeter, a button pusher, a tail wagger and a constant reminder to look out for the little guys.

The trust between man and animal is so special, and the lessons our dogs teach us are so universal. If Pup were here today, I’m sure he would say just relax and follow the sun. There will always be more treats!

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 36 :: trust and a dog

5 Feb

{trust}

Trust brought me this funny little video today (thanks Justin!). It’s titled “never trust a dog” and it made me laugh out loud. Mostly because we live with a dog like this… who has probably thought about doing this very thing…

Just a little fun from a year of trust…
More tomorrow.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 99 :: be loud

8 Apr
{with your joy}

We spent the day with family. I cannot think of a better way to be joyful – family, food, funny jokes, forgotten stories, and even more fabulous people.

And, of course, a dog. His name is Jake.

Jake loves his people. He loves most everybody actually. And his treats. He wags his tail and prances with joy from person to person in every room, smelling them with his nose as if to remind them that they belong in his world.  It’s Jake’s stamp of approval.

He is a gentle giant. A sweet soul. A big white dog with a round pink belly leaving a soft spot in all of our hearts.

Jake taught me a little bit about joy today — and the importance of being loud with it. Because he doesn’t need to be reminded when it’s time for dinner or a treat.

Don’t be shy to ask for your treats. Wag your tail.

Be loud with your joy!

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 363 :: a kind lesson

29 Dec
{these two}

It’s been a year, 2017. Amidst it all two things have been constant: Pup and Brady.

Sometimes for comic relief, other times for adventure. One thing I am absolutely sure of… there is nothing kinder than the love of a dog and the wag of a tail to the rhythm of joy. Times that by two and you’ve got a pretty kind life.

If there is nothing else in this year to teach me the power of kindness, there are these two dogs. They are cuddled up on their dog bed right now, wrapped around each other and snuggled in for the night.

In this year of Kindness, they have taught me this: Lick it better and shake it off.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 293 :: 4-letter word friday

20 Oct

Pets.

On this 4-Letter Word Friday, I am touched by the kindness of pets. Specifically, my two dogs.

Pup, at age 16 (and a half!) is just a daily miracle. His big brown eyes can see straight through a person. His impeccable sense of timing (wake time, breakfast time, nap time and dinner time) is always on point. And he loves to cuddle more than the furry kitties he watches outside the window.

Even Brady, our crazy one, is full of love. I think it’s the love in him that makes him would so tight. His love of food (any type of food), meeting new people, running after the rain and catching flies is done with full-on enthusiasm.

Both keep us on our toes. They sometimes make me wonder who is really in charge here. And yet, I can’t imagine life without these kind creatures.

So this Friday is devoted to pets. pups and dogs.

May they awaken your soul with kindness.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 197 :: puppies

8 Aug

Smile

I thought it would be kind to share cute puppy photos today. Why? Because these make me smile. And laugh out loud. Some are moments of pure chaos. Others are moments of pure bliss. Some are just a strange, crazy moment that we share with a Vizsla pup named Brady.

Did you smile?

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 148 :: my kind of smell

20 Jun

Living with Dogs.

I once saw a home is Mexico labeled Casa Pero Loco. Or something close to the meaning of “Crazy Dog House” — sometimes I feel that is where I call home.

Two dogs mean that we have lots of LOVE, wagging tails, kisses, and hugs … and lots of smells. We aren’t going to get rid of our fur babies, they are part of the family, but there are times I want to get rid of the smells.

Enter – my new candle. I love it.

Sweet Dune Grass. Reminds me of our time on Martha’s Vineyard. Smells like summer. And long walks at night with two puppies.

Kind memories. Kind smells.
Maybe the best kind of all.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

 JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 162 :: opposite of kindness

14 Jun

Who me?

This is not a look of kindness. This is a look of too many monkeys jumping on the bed.

It’s also a look of:
 What? Who me? Why are you yelling?

Maybe it’s bad four-legged parenting. The bed was made and then I swear I turn my head for a moment and I find two dogs, a messy bed and two looks of incredulousness.

I yell. Then I laugh. Then I take a photo. It’s a cycle with these two.

I think their job is to keep me on my kind toes. And I think kindness is trying to teach me patience – and how to roll with it. Whatever “it” may be.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie
