JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 283 :: elusive balance

12 Oct

As Sunday comes to a close, and the week begins anew I’m in planning mode. Planning for what’s new this week, what’s next, what’s necessary.

As I plan my days I’m more and more struck by the concept of balance. And I’m more convinced than ever that it doesn’t exist.

“The truth is, balance is bunk. It is an unattainable pipe dream… The quest for balance between work and life, as we’ve come to think of it, isn’t just a losing proposition;  it’s a hurtful, destructive one.” -Keith H. Hammonds

Of course I believe in fun, rest, relaxation, recharge, and charging forward. But to do all of this in the name of balance feels, well, out of balance. As I move through peak performance and uncover more and more techniques to excel, move forward, and both create and complete my goals balance feels like a fairy tale myth of the grandest proportion.

Maybe that’s yet another secret of peak performance? Balance does NOT exist, at least not in the way that we’ve been told it does.

And that makes me think… Just like looking for gold at the end of the rainbow, maybe balance isn’t in the ever elusive completion end of the road prize inside. Rather it is the journey itself.

The treasure may be as simple as treasuring the moments we are in… RIGHT now.

More tomorrow.
