JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 138 :: living joy

16 May
{laughter and tears}

Just thinking about joy today. And it has moved me to both laughter and tears. Maybe that’s the point? To want and dream and desire and do and act and create all at the same time.

Joy is an inside job.

Joy is also living from the inside out.
Here’s to living some joy.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 302 :: october fog

29 Oct

{nature}

I saw this little squirrel out my window today amongst the October fog in the distance. Actually, I first saw his shadow on my wall, squirming, and bustling about. I turned around to see him sitting so close I could touch him if the window were open.

I was so intrigued I decided to look up the meaning of squirrel:

Perhaps they are here to herald a message for us all, not to give up, not to get stressed and as mentioned before there IS time for everything in life. Don’t forget to play, no matter what age you are.

Another listing said:

When the squirrel comes into our lives it is often a message for us to have more fun, and take life a little less seriously. We can see this in the squirrel’s daily antics in our yards and surroundings.

Symbolic Meaning of Squirrel as a Sun-Loving Animal

  • Passion
  • Energy
  • Expression
  • Vitality

Thanks, Mr. Squirrel!
Seems like a kind reminder to me.

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 113 :: on kindness and goals

26 Apr

Stepping back.

A theme for me this week is stepping back. Stepping back to move forward.

It’s kind of ironic for me, someone who likes to PUSH PUSH PUSH to get to the finish line. Stepping back doesn’t always feel good. It feels like wasted energy. It feels like giving up. It feels so incredibly ssssssslllllloooooooowwwww.

And yet, I’m learning, it can be so fast.

Today, I practiced stepping back. For a brief second. A millisecond. And what I found was this:

  • I relaxed
  • The world didn’t stop
  • I breathed
  • I had more energy to push forward

Aha! And there’s the golden nugget. More energy.
To move forward.

May you move forward with kindness.
And energy.

More tomorrow….
Lovemore,
Jamie

2014 BLOG – DAY 5 :: an energy hoax, bracelets or multivitamins

5 Jan

I found myself staring at a bracelet today.

It was a power bracelet, the kind that promises better balance and energy.

Normally, I wouldn’t bat an eye at it, but today it was 80% off at Rays, the grocery store that is closing for good in our little town.

The store shelves are almost bare after being raided by the general populace in a race to win the 80% Off Race.

I admit I was one of them.

And right before me were energy bracelets. Power bracelets.

It made me stop and ponder my promise.
Peak Performance.

On the surface the bracelet seemed like a perfect fit. So I inspected further. The packaging promised more balance, more power, more energy.

I stood in the empty store holding nothing more than a rubber band in my hand trying to figure out how it would give me more energy.

In the end I didn’t buy because it seemed like a waste of money and my time — two very precious sources of energy. Instead I purchased a bottle of multivitamins.

When I arrived home tonight I “Googled” the bracelets.
As expected, they are a hoax complete with law suit from 2011.

It makes me laugh a bit because a part of me got totally sucked into the marketing. For a moment, I actually pondered if a bracelet would give me more energy. And who knows, if I THOUGHT I had more energy maybe I would … chicken ….egg  …scrambled scam?

This I know is true, nothing is more energetic than the truth.
Which also leads to peak performance…
…and personal power.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 278 :: abundance energy

5 Oct

Here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day:
Children creating art. On the street. With chalk. Lots and lots of chalk.

It’s art.
Art Along The Rogue

Our newfound town’s annual street fair started today and will finish tomorrow. And there were all sorts of people and artists covered in chalk on their hands and knees for the occasion.

It was an amazing turnout in town. Adults, children, lines and lines of people. It made me think more about abundance.

How you can take something like this:

And turn it into this:

It’s all energy.
Focus.
Vision.
Ideas.
Action.

Abundance.

You can view a time-lapse video from 2011 here. And I will share more tomorrow.

Until then, may you find the energy you need to create the abundance you desire.

More tomorrow.

Day 76: Wax on, wax OMG!!!

17 Mar

Next week we head to Mexico.
So, brainiac over here decided to cash in a coupon and head to Brazil first.
At the European Wax Center, billed as the ultimate wax experience.

It sounded so wonderful, no need to pack razors for a week long trip to Mexico!
Sign me up.

Plus Irina said it is “virtually painless” on the website.

As soon as I stepped through the doors and into the whitewashed bright lobby, I could feel my nerves dangling on their last thread.

My “waxer”, we’ll call her Mary, was of course wonderful.
She took the time to explain the process, describe why their own brand of purple wax is the best, no need for paper with this team.

But Irena lied.
Liar, liar, bikini line on fire.

Yaaaa-ouch!
Mary looked at me sympathetically through her surgical mask, raised an eyebrow and said:

“Some women who don’t wax regularly just can’t tolerate the pain, do you want me to stop?”

The competitor in me rose to the occasion.
She didn’t know who she was dealing with …I’m not just “some woman” over here.

With sweat dripping down my brow and armpits, I motioned for her to continue, clenching my teeth.

In the end, Mary was right.
I couldn’t do it.

I opted for the less than Brazilian excursion.
More like a little drive through the Poconos.

Thank goodness it was massage day over here.
And it couldn’t get here quick enough.
As soon as I left the wax center I escaped to the spa for an 80 minute deep tissue massage. And if I ever needed one, today was the day.

Which brings me back to what I promised to write more about:
Positive Rituals

If you took the energy quiz yesterday you are on your way to identifying where your energy systems are weak.

The next step is putting positive rituals into place.
Or, said more simply, making sure your body refuels regularly.

Go from intention to habit.
I love this saying: integrity is intention put into action.

We are creatures of habit.
We do, what we do, when we do it.  Over and over.
That’s why it’s hard to change.

Here’s the secret that Tony shares in his video:
If you want to make a change, you need to create highly specific behaviors that become automatic over time.

If you want to add more relaxation into your life, ask yourself this:
How can I ritualize it?

So then how do you know it is a ritual?
When it feel worse not to do it, than to actually do it.

Pretty simple steps really.

Want an example?
Take me:  I wanted to make a change in my life.

I wanted to invest in my head, heart, body & soul for one entire year.
But, I knew I needed support. I needed a way to stay on track. I needed it to be positive and healthy and not feel like a downer when I couldn’t shop.

So what’s the ritual: no buying clothes or shoes and writing about it every single day.

How do I know it’s a ritual:
I would feel worse skipping a day of writing than buying a pair of shoes!

I believe you can do anything for a year.
And, I believe you can change your life.

It just takes a few positive rituals to get started.

P.S.
If you want to add a ritual of waxing to your life, I’ve got a $5 coupon.
And, it’s all yours!

Day 75: have enough energy?

16 Mar

Tomorrow is massage day.
And I can hardly wait.

But, today, was designated “catch-up-day” post travels.
It’s amazing how many emails can pile up when one is out-the-door and out-of-town.

As I starred at my MacBook Pro this morning I was overcome by a sea of email.
I had to sort by name, subject, and day just to make sense of it all.

But, then I found the missing link!
I uncovered the URL to a really timely, informative, and smart video just waiting for me to watch.

Before I reveal all the details, let me just ask one question:

Do you have enough energy?

As in, how tired do you feel on a regular basis?

You may already be familiar with The Energy Project by Tony Schwartz.
It’s a full-court press to bring awareness to managing our energy, not our time.

That’s pretty counter-intuitive to the work around the clock, not just 9-5 world, isn’t it?!

Precisely why I love The Energy Project principles.
Mostly because it fits right in here at The Promise 365.
The focus is on four dimensions of personal energy:

  • physical
  • mental
  • spiritual
  • emotional

Sounds familiar, eh?
(head, heart, body & soul)

Well, here’s the scoop.

VIDEO: You can watch the hour long video if you have the time.
READ: Feel feel to dive into this Harvard Business Review article.

Or, you can just take the quick quiz.
Either way, I promise  you will get a sneak peek into your own potential energy crisis.

The Good News
If your energy stores are already in meltdown mode, there is a solution.
It is called Positive Rituals.

They are simple.
As told in the Harvard B. Review:

These rituals include taking
brief breaks at specific intervals, expressing
appreciation to others, reducing interruptions,
and spending more time on
activities people do best and enjoy most.

There is so much to absorb, I suggest you just take the quiz.
It’s enough to get your mind thinking about areas where you can make a change.

Simple, easy, effective changes mind you.
More on that tomorrow.

Until then, if burnout is on your doorstep, I will remind us all what is still considered the most simple and effective practice, proven and tested over time.

Something you can do at home or at work.
By yourself.

And it’s free…

Take a deep breath.
In and out.

(Because we can’t always have a massage every day of the week)

P.S.
In light of the very real energy crisis and fallout in Japan I offer this:
If you would like to donate to Save the Children’s Japan Earthquake Tsunami Children in Emergency Fund, please follow this link. I just did, and while it isn’t going to stop the meltdown, it will help a child.
