JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 314 :: cleanse – 51 days to go

10 Nov

There are 51 days left of The Promise 365!

My father is here visiting, so today we drove to Salem, Massachusetts and walked through the Salem Witch Museum and the House of Seven Gables. On this trip I realized two things, I have never read the book The House of Seven Gables despite it being on the top reading list for high school students (I have no idea how I missed it) and also, we broke our 4-week cleanse for the first time. But it was all worth it.

We ate at Salem’s best little restaurant, The Lobster Shanty, home of warm beer and lobster mac and cheese. And possibly the world’s best clam chowder. I ordered a veggie burger which is almost okay on our plant-based cleanse. This is how it begins. One cheat day and then the real work begins to stay on track.

It seems ironic to me that I have successfully completed two major cleanses in my lifetime. The first was the very first year of this blog, and as it turns out, the second is in what will be the very last year of this blog.

The first cleanse, The Colorado Cleanse was a 30-day Ayurvedic version where I gave up chocolate, coffee, and alcohol (all staples of my diet at the time) and had to eat raw butter and drink castor oil on the very last day (yuck!) .

This second cleanse, Purium, is a milder routine with an array of plant-based food choices, green shakes, digestive enzymes, protein pills and all the plants, cucumbers and celery I could ever enjoy (I’ve already released 8 pounds). It’s a much nicer routine for my body and one that I could see myself sustaining into the future.

In the first cleanse I was focused on taking things out of my diet, on the second cleanse I have been focused on adding more good things into my body. In so many ways, this juxtaposition sums up my experience in The Promise 365. Where in the past I would choose what was hard, now I opt for the things that are abundant and easy with just the same rewards.

So, here’s to celebrating what is easy, feels good and brings you more abundance.

Trust me!

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 64 :: good news

8 Mar

So good. Feel good.

It feels like forever since I’ve read “good” news. Here’s one headline that landed in my lap today:

Teen helps elderly man cross the street during hailstorm in act of kindness

Kindness may be walking everywhere. Maybe we just have to look for it?

Kindness Challenge – want to play along?
How can you make every act matter this week?
How would it impact your week?
How could it change your life?

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 266 :: warm warm warm

28 Sep

Day 266: Cold. Cold. Cold.

It’s getting cold outside. Tonight is what feels like the first real chill of the season. Which makes me appreciate warmth so much more. And when I say warmth, I mean my mattress heater. Crawling into a warm bed is sometimes the most wonderful moment of the day. Or night.

It’s also one really nice way to make my body feel good. And if yoga is teaching me anything this year, it is this: to take care of my body. And feel good.

And so, with that, I am crawling into bed.
Night. Night!

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 179 :: feel good friday

3 Jul
It’s Feel Good Friday…and boy does that feel good to write.

In this year of BLISS I am learning a very important secret. Nothing is more important than feeling good. I’ve tried to give up complaining (still haven’t cracked the code of the 21-day no-complaint challenge) but I have learned SO much.

Mostly, I have learned what sets me off. What throws me off my game. What sends me through the roof. In most cases it is spiders. Not just any spiders, black widow spiders! And that takes away all the good feeling blissfulness that I have built up, in a matter of seconds.

So, for tonight, I share this — because these pups make me feel GOOD. And all that matters is feeling good right now. It’s all we’ve really got when you think about it.

So…..Once a week for 35 weeks this owner caught his pups racing for their food bowl. They literally grow up before your eyes on camera. It’s pretty darn ahh inducing cute.

Happy Friday!

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 165 :: feel good friday

19 Jun
Happy Friday. As we close out the week I am reminded of things that make me laugh…

Today I was laughing at myself, remembering my own post surgery antics a year ago.

High on drugs I put on a one-woman comedy show. I thought everyone around me was laughing because I was soooooo funny.

Everyone else knew I was coming down from the anesthesia. While I barely remember it all I do recall asking a doctor who braided her hair (apparently multiple, multiple, multiple times).

Justin still won’t let me forget it… so today he sent me this:

I can relate. I’m just glad nobody filmed my post surgery comedy show.
But it’s enough for a feel good Friday reminder … and a laugh.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 97 :: f*ing friday

10 Apr

Happy Siblings Day! That’s a shout out to my sister, you know who you are. But it’s also Feel Good Friday!

So tonight I give you this: Babies and Kittens.

C’mon, babies laughing and kittens playing? Can anything be more feel good than that?

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 79 :: re-introducing f*ing fridays! feed good fridays

20 Mar

F*ing Fridays are back. But this time around, since we are in the year of Bliss, they stand for this:

Feel Good Fridays!

It’s sort of a curated thing. Feel good stuff from around the world wide web (or Facebook, what’s the difference these days?).

And to kick off this first installment, I bring you this: best dominos ever. It’s worth a watch, the house alone is amazing, the music is fun, the dominos are f*ing brilliant. Brilliant!

Happy Friday! Feel good.

It’s time to have more “F” words that stand for something good.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore, do more.

  {what fun do you have planned?}

2014 BLOG – DAY 70 :: songs to make you feel alive

11 Mar

So, do you need something to whistle to?

I recommend this beat-thumping, lip-whistling tune from Michael Franti. I am course late to the party, it came out last year, but I love it!

And, it couldn’t come at a better time. They are going to insert needles into my boob in about twelve hours.

Hump Day just became Bump Day.

That’s because my breasts are so small they are barely bumps, and my sister teased me mercilessly about it growing up. In a way that only a big sister with big breasts can do.

I think my bumps were also referred to as mosquito bites. As in, “Do you need a Band-Aid for that?”

I do love my small boobs. They are so convenient for yoga class and were an asset for running up and down the basketball court.

But I have to admit, I have briefly dreamed of a life with really big breasts. What would it be like to swing them to and fro? I don’t know…

But I know this. My sister informed me last week that her breasts have increased in size with age in the last few years. Since we don’t live in close proximity to each other I can’t confirm this as a scientific fact, but I can say this: there is hope that mine might grow too!

Regardless, I am happy with my two little bumps. They have served me well and I expect much more from them.

So… I am singing this song to remind each of them that they are alive (before they get drilled with a needle tomorrow)!

In the words of Mr. Franti:

Life sound like
I’m alive! I’m alive! I’m alive!
I’m alive! I’m alive! I’m alive!
This is what is sounds like
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh I’m Alive!

Need more tunes to make you feel alive?

More tomorrow.
