JAMIE’S BLOG – DAY 79 :: re-introducing f*ing fridays! feed good fridays

20 Mar

F*ing Fridays are back. But this time around, since we are in the year of Bliss, they stand for this:

Feel Good Fridays!

It’s sort of a curated thing. Feel good stuff from around the world wide web (or Facebook, what’s the difference these days?).

And to kick off this first installment, I bring you this: best dominos ever. It’s worth a watch, the house alone is amazing, the music is fun, the dominos are f*ing brilliant. Brilliant!

Happy Friday! Feel good.

It’s time to have more “F” words that stand for something good.

More tomorrow.
Lovemore, do more.
Jamie

  {what fun do you have planned?}

Day 77: f*ing friday :: fuel

18 Mar

TGIF.
Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Fresh.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Fuel.

As in, energy.

If you’ve been Following along this week you have already taken the energy quiz.
And, if not, you can go do it super quick. Takes just a few minutes.

Here are my personal energy crisis zones:

  • I check email too much, too long, all day and night.
  • I don’t do enough strength training.
  • I don’t designate vacation time as just that: getting away from it all (yes, I’m talking to you email!)

The Fault?
I’m constantly connected.
And, after taking my energy quiz I am now aware of how that can (and will) crash my energy stores.

For those who like Facts, here’s some Figures:
Our human body runs on the circadian rhythm. It is the Flow, the daily cycle of organisms over 24-hours.  More simply, it is the clock that tells us to sleep and wake.

Throughout day, however, our energy runs on Ultradian rhythms, which are recurrent periods or cycles repeated throughout a 24-hour circadian day.

So what’s the point?
This: energy breaks.

We need to reFuel, reFresh, and reFill the energy tank in order to perform at optimum levels.

Turns out, this pit stop needs to happen just about every 90 to 120 minutes.
It’s time to refuel again.

For me, that’s about the time (90 minutes into a project) I start tromping through Facebook-land and distraction alley.

My body is trying to tell me something (hello head: I need a break!)  but my computer screen has a headlock on my attention (let’s see who’s on facebook!).

It feels productive.
It looks productive.
But really, it’s not just a time suck, it’s an energy suck too.

What I learned this week is that my Focus would be better spent taking a deep breath. Doing a downward dog. Or, getting up and moving around, instead of trying to stay the course, keep working, and Fight the distraction.

It seems Foolish not to.
Otherwise, time will take it’s toll on my emotional, physical and spiritual well-being.

Some say life is a marathon.
Turns out, it’s more like a whole bunch of sprints.
One after another.
With really great recovery time in between.

And with that, I am powering down for the night.
Must admit, it Feels strange.

TGIF.
I hope you have some time to Find your Fuel this weekend too.

Day 70: f*ing friday :: fresh

11 Mar

TGIF.
Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Friends.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Fresh.

As in, Fresh Perspective.

Spending my summer, excuse me, I meant “winter” in Naples, Florida has been Fabulous. But, Flying to Alpena, Michigan this week has been Full of Freshness.

Fresh Air For One.
There is something crisp and beautiful about a Fresh blanket of snow covering the earth. And there is certainly something magical about tromping through snow banks with little baby snowflakes sprinkling your eyelashes.

Yesterday, Mary Ellen Jones gave us a tour of the Farm she calls home. It was Norman Rockwell picturesque with rolling hills and roosters crowing right out of the barn.

It was also a Fresh Perspective.
Because it is a change of pace.
A contrast.
A different world From my sunshine and beach Filled days in Florida.

What I love about spending time with Mary Ellen (known as M.E. to her Friends and Family) is her ability to appreciate the contrast.

M.E. moved from lavish Hollywood to lakeside Michigan.
For love. Way past 40.
And she will tell you all about in the book Women on Fire.

You see, M.E. was a Hollywood Producer.
For shows you know and love, including…
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

When I launched The Promise 365, M.E. was First in line to give me encouragement.

She told me I could do it.
She wrote me a note of support.
And in that note, she revealed to me that she too had conducted this same experiment in her life.

Not only did M.E. go one year without shopping Frivolously, she went three years without Frivolity.  And at the end of those three years she saved enough money to buy a house.

How F*ing awesome is that?

Which brings me to my Finale.
This morning, I woke up in a cold winter wonderland.
I opened up my suitcase and looked at a menagerie of clothing pieces.

Instead of wool leggings, I put on bike shorts.
Instead of a thermal undershirt, I layered on the tank tops.
And instead of snow boots, I pulled on the plaid rain boots.

Why?
Because I’m not purchasing anything!
And, brainiac over here didn’t pack warm clothes for Florida.

But you know what?
It didn’t matter.
I still shared an incredible night with women from around the country.

Nobody cared that my half-leggings were suffocating lyrca and my boots didn’t match. Heck, they didn’t even know the worst part: I forgot my toothbrush!

Just goes to show:
Fresh is all in the perspective.
And how refreshing is that?

Day 63: f*ing friday :: friends

4 Mar

TGIF.
Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Fire.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Friends.

As in, lifelong friends, college friends, friends who see you through everything.

Here we were almost 10 years ago: Laura, Lisa, and Jamie

Here we are tonight: Laura, Jamie and Lisa (with Carver, 7-months old)

What you may be able to see between the two photos is:
we have aged, married, birthed, moved, grown, shared, laughed and loved since our old college days.

What you may not be able to see between the two photos is:

One of us has divorced.

One of us has birthed.

One has adopted.

All of us have at one time or another picked up everything we ever owned and moved very far away from home.

One of us has a pair of divorced parents, and two of us have lost a parent.

We have dreamed, cried, laughed, drunk, wept, questioned, clarified, and collapsed under the pressure of growing up.

But we have not done any of it alone.
We have been through it all together.

So, today, I dedicate this F*ing Friday to my friends.

I am reminded how lucky I am, to have lifelong friends who will see me through everything (even one crazy year of not shopping).

Absolutely, hands down, the best investment I’ve ever made.

I wish the same for you.

Day 56: f*ing friday :: fire

25 Feb

TGIF.
Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Fine.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Fire.

As in, what are you on Fire about?

I just returned from the Women on Fire Tea Party.
It is a place to share what you are passionate about right now – or not.

A tea party is an amazing experience, a magical Few hours that are almost impossible to capture in words. It certainly was an investment in my head, my heart, and my body & soul.

Here’s the Funny thing about Fire

Fire can be tricky business.
All the right elements must be in place For Fire to even have a chance at catching a spark. Once the Flame takes hold one must be very careful with Fire to keep it burning bright.

Fire, in the hands of the right person with the right intentions, can be a very useful tool. With the worst of intentions, Fire can be a blaze that destroys beauty, it can even turn bright into blah.

But Fire can also be Fierce, Feminine, Frank, Feeling and Fun, all at the same time.

Today, at the tea party, I was reminded of this:
Women are changing the world
For the better.

As each one of us Finds our Fire and lights up, we change our life.
One by one, that will change the world.

So come on baby, light your Fire!

Fulfill
dreams.
The effect will spread like wildfire.

And, I am convinced of this:
The world is going to be more Fabulous For it.

Day 49: f*ing friday

18 Feb

TGIF.
Today starts a weekly series, ironically called, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. Keepin’ it simple over here.

I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless,
Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Fine.

As in:
I’m fine.
Everything is fine.
It will be fine.
That is just fine.

Let us not be Fooled.
Fine should be Fined.
It is a lie. It is code.
It might be the most deceitful word in the English language.

When things are “fine” they are certainly not fine.

I should know.
I have experience with Fine.
I have committed the crime of shrugging my shoulders and plastering a bright smile on my Face while halfheartedly convincing the world (and myself) that:

Everything. Is. Just. Fine.

I lived a very long time in the Fantasy of Fine.
It is not Fun.

Fine has a way of making Fabulous Forgotten.
Fine is a potion that will poison you.
Fine will reassure you that things are okay, that you may not be happy, but it’s not worth being honest with the world. Fine will make you believe it is better to put on a happy face than to live in a happy place.

You may have experience with Fine.
Maybe you are Fine with Fine, For right now.
Or, maybe you are Finally getting to the point of being Finished with Fine.

Either way, if you are Flailing about, Frustrated, or Flabbergasted, you probably have Fine to blame.

It took me a decade to Figure this out.
I’m glad I Finally did.

Fine is Forgotten.
Now, I expect Fabulous.
May you too.
