JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 78 :: kindness is…

22 Mar

Kindness is teaching me to listen. It seems to be the lesson that is blooming over and over again. And, tonight, as I have officially lost my voice, I am beginning to feel the power of the silent word.

It is the gift of open ears.
An act of Kindness, that is the ember that starts a wildfire.

More tomorrow….

2014 BLOG – DAY 87 :: fire beautiful

28 Mar

I spotted something beautiful today in the light of fire.

Isn’t it amazing the comfort and ease a fireplace brings to a room?

More tomorrow.

{what brings you comfort?}

BLOG – GIFT DAY 285 :: shine on

12 Oct

In keeping with my promise to seek abundance, here’s my Abundance Photo of the Day…. the magic of fire.

We have a pellet burning stove in our little Oregon house.  I’ve never seen or used or operated one before. It took us a few tries to figure it out. Admittedly there was a bursting cloud of smoke once.  We have that under control now.

It still scares the crap out of Brady.  Every time a spark of fire shoots up from inside the little black box Brady runs out of the room, tail between his legs.

He’s not afraid of pushing the screen window out and running away for his own personal adventure. But one little spark of light and he hides under the sheets.

It makes me think about fire.
And the magic of that light.

And the abundance it can bring… the power it holds.

As Marianne Williams so famously wrote, and is worth repeating here:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

May you shine on.

More tomorrow.

BLOG – GIFT DAY 208 :: where there’s smoke…

27 Jul
The sky turned black today and the sun was a ball of red. There is a fire in the nearby mountains. Justin caught it on video, just as the overhead plane was dropping the fire retardant (or whatever it is that they drop!).

Check out the video here:   http://youtu.be/0GQDZ_0u42o

I’ve never seen the sky turn so dark and red at the same time.

This fire is about 20 miles north of us but the smoke filling the sky makes it feel like it’s barging down the highway aimed straight for us.

Of course, that’s not what will happen, but man, it feels close!

Despite the dark sky and ominous sun, I sent off my card right on time. It was Pup and Brady’s pick today… and that’s your hint.

Meanwhile, we sit and watch the smoke fill the air, knowing that where there is smoke, there is fire.

More tomorrow.

P.S. This is all made possible by Green Ink Gallery. Check out their beautiful fine art cards!

P.P.S. Yesterday’s Card….If you guessed that it went out to Lily and Drew, you are so correct. Thanks you two! For brightening my day and sending me some hand-drawn love in the mail. Love you both!

Day 62: f*ing friday: fear of fire

2 Mar

F*ing Fridays are back!
And, they will continue to occur on Friday. I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5 in Year 1, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Film

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:
Fear of Fire.

As in, cooking.

Tonight I officially took a little leap of faith and jumped over fire. Well, at least I bent over the stove for a good hour.

So, maybe I didn’t actually run, jump or leap over a fire pit, but I did turn a lot of kale from the organic market into a resemblance of dinner without burning the kitchen down.

What, are you surprised?  Yes, me too!

The Chinese have a saying: “Eighty percent is perfection.”  And, I am officially commandeering this concept for my kitchen confidential adventures.

It’s time I get over my fear of fire and all things Julia Child.
So, in this month of facing fear I am officially MARCHing into the kitchen.

Tonight was fun and easy because I was cooking just for me and Pup since Justin’s working tonight — so no pressure, no judgement, no vomiting at the table. The stakes will get higher of course when I cook for other walking, breathing humans who have taste buds.

So, that’s why I am adopting this mantra: 80% is perfection.

Because I realize my fear of the kitchen has nothing to do with the culinary arts — rather, it’s my fear of making a mistake or messing up, or to put differentlynot being perfect.

So, I’m working on embracing perfect in the f*ing imperfect.
And, I suppose that’s the best recipe I can learn.

Now, who wants to come over for dinner?

P.S. Here’s a little photo trip from the farmers market to my kitchen table — fire not included.

Day 56: f*ing friday :: fire

25 Feb

Today continues the weekly series, F*ing Fridays, which will coincidentally occur on Friday. I mentioned some of my favorite F words back on Day 5, including: Fearless, Fabulous, Fine, Fun, Faith, Freedom, Forgiveness, to name a Few.

Last week I dove into the word Fine.

Today’s F*ing Friday is dedicated to the word:

As in, what are you on Fire about?

I just returned from the Women on Fire Tea Party.
It is a place to share what you are passionate about right now – or not.

A tea party is an amazing experience, a magical Few hours that are almost impossible to capture in words. It certainly was an investment in my head, my heart, and my body & soul.

Here’s the Funny thing about Fire

Fire can be tricky business.
All the right elements must be in place For Fire to even have a chance at catching a spark. Once the Flame takes hold one must be very careful with Fire to keep it burning bright.

Fire, in the hands of the right person with the right intentions, can be a very useful tool. With the worst of intentions, Fire can be a blaze that destroys beauty, it can even turn bright into blah.

But Fire can also be Fierce, Feminine, Frank, Feeling and Fun, all at the same time.

Today, at the tea party, I was reminded of this:
Women are changing the world
For the better.

As each one of us Finds our Fire and lights up, we change our life.
One by one, that will change the world.

So come on baby, light your Fire!

The effect will spread like wildfire.

And, I am convinced of this:
The world is going to be more Fabulous For it.
