JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 9 – DAY 117 :: trust in laughter

27 Apr

{trust}

Today was date day. Usually, this kind of fun would be reserved for date night but since it was a Saturday we had a whole day and a new movie, a dog park and a long nap to get caught up on.

  For a long week behind, laughter is the cure for a good week ahead.

Trust me!
More tomorrow.

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 241 :: joy is a three-day weekend

1 Sep
{celebrate summer}

Joy is a three-day weekend! Here’s to the last hurrah of summer: the warm months, the hot sun, the cool beach. The best part of summer’s end is all the beginning’s to come. Including my love! Justin and Brady should arrive sometime tomorrow from their coast to coast drive. And it will be the icing on the cake of this three-day weekend which has been a month in the works.

So, bring on the end of summer! and the beginning of new adventures.
Hello Fall!

More tomorrow…

Lovemore,
Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 8 – DAY 186 :: fireworks

4 Jul
{joyful, fun and free}

As the fireworks burst outside my window I am popping with joy. How joyful it is to be free. How joyful it is to have fun. The best combination is fun and free, and free and fun.

Sometimes I think we forgot how to have fun and be free. But a day like today is a good reminder, Independence Day. I spent the day sorting through more stuff. Mostly clothing and shoes, my heart’s desires. I already dropped off six bags at the consignment store and have three more waiting to go.

Not because I don’t love them but because they no longer fit. Most are too small. A few are too big. But mostly, I have a sense that in order to fully walk into a new adventure you have to let go of the old ones.

Believe me, it’s hard for me to do. Clothing whispers to me. My clothing sends surges of memories into every cell of my being — what I wore, what I did,  what I ate, who I met, what happened… and what didn’t happen too. Clothing is a time capsule.

So, to me, it’s like gathering up a bunch of old friends and waving goodbye at port, as they ready to go onto new adventures in places I can only imagine… at the consignment store. And, yet, there is a sense of freedom in that.

It’s a sense of letting go. And letting in the new. It’s a freedom, really. One I’m proud to say I have, the ability to pick up my life and move it to a new place, a different state, a different port. What a beautiful freedom we have in this world.

Many adventures (and I’m sure new clothing) await!
What joy.

Jamie

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 151 :: kindly on the mend

4 Jun

Fun.

I was thinking about fun today. Mostly because coughing and sneezing isn’t so fun. Luckily, I am on the mend! But in the vein of being KIND to myself, I treated this body to a good-for-me breakfast. An Acai Bowl at Left Coast.

And when I say Acai, I mean AHSIEEEEEEEEEY!  At least that’s what my head says every time I order it.

It’s so not cheap. I mean, rather pricey for ahem, breakfast. But it’s so good. And it felt good and kind. What a nice combination.

Good.
And Kind.

Fun.
And Breakfast.

They all go together nicely.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 7 – KINDNESS  DAY 103 :: easter kindness

16 Apr

Sunshine.

He has risen! And when I say he, I mean the SUN.
It’s been a long winter.

Yet on this Easter Sunday, along with amazing food, family, and some outdoor fun, we had the grace and warmth of the Sun. The flowers were in full bloom too.

And, that may be the best kind of kindness.
Appreciation. Appreciating the everyday miracles around us.
Let the sun shine.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 268 :: redecorating

30 Sep

Day 268: Friday Funday.

This is the look of a dog who just got caught redecorating the bedroom. It’s as if you can hear him say, “What?”

And to that, I say, happy Friday.
Yoga done. Fun begun.

More tomorrow.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 148 :: finding the funny

Day 148: Funny.

Day two of a band-aid on my finger. And I’m finding it funny.

Because it’s on my MIDDLE finger.
Ahhhhh…. we have to find the fun in funny somewhere.
Now…yoga.

JAMIE’S BLOG – YEAR 6 – YOGA DAY 118 :: handstands and yoga questions

28 Apr

Day 118: Head rush.

So if there is something the human body is not meant to do I’m pretty sure it’s a handstand. Downward dog, sure. Plank, yes. Upward dog, yup! But stand on your hands or head… really?

As I push gently into this year of yoga I’m starting to realize that some of the poses feel natural on my body. Downward dog, sure. Plank, yes. Upward dog, yup!

But some do not. Stand on your hands or head… really?
I’m not sure who invented the handstand. Or the headstand. Standing on anything other than my feet seems, well, a bit upside down.

And yet, it is supposed to have benefits for my body that I can’t quite grasp. Except that for me, it makes me feel like my butt weighs 700 pounds heavier as the full weight of all my organs and innards and muscles and such bear down on my fingers. It’s really not human is it? To stand on your hands?

I know people do it. All the time I’m sure. I’m just not sure if it’s something I will be able to do. And, yes, of course, I CAN do a handstand when there is a wall next to me and I’m leaning up against it and someone else is holding my feet (usually Justin – thank you dear). But should I do it? Really? And just because you can, is it really a must? Must I, really?

It’s these questions and more that yoga is asking me this year. (That, and why my butt weighs 700 pounds heavier when it’s in mid-air, but that’s just a gravity-science-mind-warp thing I’m sure.)

But then there is this:  yoga is getting easier. Not all the moves, but some. And my body is craving the stretch yoga provides. It happens at odd moments. In the middle of the day. While sitting in my car. During dinner.

I literally catch myself doing the thing that drove me nuts about the little girls in grade school who took dance lessons. Bending and stretching out their legs and practicing a dance move in the middle of class. For me, it’s doing a yoga stretch in the middle of something else.

OMG – I’m becoming one. of. those. people.

But I suppose that’s something that happens on the journey of becoming a Yogi.
Finding the poses you enjoy. The ones you don’t. The ones that are good for you. And the ones that are not.

And maybe the wisdom comes with knowing the difference.
We’ll find out. The journey continues…

More tomorrow.
Lovemore,
Jamie
